i can't be completely sure until we see another fight, but i'm betting that cotto looking good has more to do with matchmaking than anything else. much more. big bet.

martinez dead body held the MW title, and cotto managed to get the fight because he brings PPV money to the table.

that's one of the reasons we wait to rank wins.

This is as ridiculous as saying Hatton improved and was a whole new fighter under Floyd Mayweather Sr.

As for being happy, he seemed very happy with Diaz for the Floyd fight and seems in very good shape aswell. It wasn't until Trout beat him that Pedro wasnt working all of a sudden (as usual for Cotto)
Diaz was seen as a god send until he lost, it's the same old story with Cotto, as soon as he loses badly with Roach he will throw him to the bushes.

        That is a weak analogy.

My point was not that he actually has improved but that it is not ridiculous that he might have. The way you are talking it is as if it is somehow impossible for a fighter to improve. You ask me how has he improved, being that i'm not a boxing trainer I cannot give you any specific things only that from seeing him against Martinez he looked very sharp indeed, whether that means he has improved is not clear but it is within the realms of possibility that he has. So should I ask you the question of how has he not improved?

You seem to have the proverbial bug up the crack about the proposition that Cotto has improved. Its not ridiculous in fact its probable and the reason is the devil in the details....namely: everyone seems to treat Trout as beneath Cotto. Trout is a damn good fighter who could have gotten the nod against Canelo in some paralllel boxingverse. Point being, Trout may not be an elite fighter himself but on any given day, fighting a puncher boxer Trout has a chance to take the contest.

Cotto has improved because he has gained more confidance...he survived wars with Margarito, he beat Mosley, was competative against Mayweather and hasnt hit forty yet. He is confidant and is prolly at his apex as a fighter rather than just over the hill.

But I do agree that the Mayweather Cotto fight may have shown us the best version of Cotto we can hope to see and...while calling Trout a slouch is ridiculous (not accusing you of doing this) its equally ridiculous (we are in agreement) saying that this version of Cotto is ready to beat Mayweather.

Madianna was competitive with Mayweather for very different reasons than Cotto...for many reasons. Watching Madianna fight Money made me imagine a prime cigarette smoking Mayorga in against Mayweather....Both guys had similar attributes except Mayorga was explosive (unlike Madianna) so that might have been a bute!

Well no that's not what I'm saying at all. In what way is that what I'm saying? I said COTTO has not improved not no fighter can improve. I don't see any area's where Cotto is different now then when he's fought prior.

As for the analogy? People were saying the same **** after Hatton beat Malignaggi. That Hatton is a brand new and improved fighter when clearly he wasn't.

Either way, the real point I was making is it's ridiculous to say beating Cotto now is a great win now as opposed to beating him two years ago.

Has it ever occurred to you that just because you don't see it that it might still be true?

Well, my posts are solely my own opinions. Saying what I am seeing. Just like anyone elses and discussing those opinions.

I'm discussing my opinion (that he's not improved from a technical or skill standpoint) since he's changed trainer for the 4th(?) time and nothing more and as far as I see no one's brought anything here to change my mind on that.

But again, the real point I was making is the idea of Cotto being a great win now as opposed to two years ago is what's ridiculous as opposed to his actual so called improvement in the last two years.

Well you also said that it was ridiculous to say that he is better now, not just that Mayweather defeating him now would be great and 2012 not.

Yeah because I think it is. That's my opinion though, and I'm discussing it on a discussion board.

But again I've just offered you some clarity on the actual point of what I was attempting to put across.

I know it is your opinion but you were saying that it is ridiculous that anyone could think that Cotto has improved, not just that it is false, but that it is ridiculous. I'm saying that it is false that it is ridiculous to say that. That was why i was suggesting that you were implying that a fighter cannot improve, I was trying to make sense of your claim that it is ridiculous to think Cotto has improved.
