Yeah, I forgot about him, I would have Ortiz at 1.

I disagree. His last two fights matched up very favorably for him. Martinez was shot and Delvin was batting practice. Floyd was the favorite the first time they fought and would be again. I'd much rather see Cotto-Canelo.

How the hell is he better now?

In what way is he better?

        This is simply ridiculous.

          Why is that ridiculous?

He's obviously not any better technically or skill wise.

In which way has he improved from the age of 33 compared to 35?

Roach is a good trainer but as is Pedro Diaz.

Roach gets him in good shape but Diaz got him in good shape for Floyd.

              31 to 33

I don't see what is obvious about him not improving technically or skill wise, can't a fighter improve from an already high standard? Whether he has actually improved or not is not clear but it is hardly "ridiculous" to say he might have. Maybe Roach is better at bringing out what Cotto is good at than Diaz was. What certainly seems to be the case is that he is a lot happier (at least for now) working with Roach and with what Roach is working on with him. Fighters can surely improve just by being in a better frame of mind alone.

I think cotto has improved his attacking methods under roach.. I don't think he is that much more improved as a fighter, but just seems in better shape and more explosive offensively under roach..
I think cotto is very motivated now, and there is a huge difference mentally from the cotto that fought yuri and mayorga to the one now..
Roach is def getting the best out of cotto

Personally I think if we see Floyd that fought Maidana vs the cotto that fought delving and serg, that Floyd will be in for a long night..
Cotto has already proven in the past that he can be competitive with Floyd, and with Floyd aging his vulnerability against the ropes increases, I think cotto has as good of shot as anyone right now to beat Floyd..

Benitez has wins over a much higher level of competition. Cervantes, Palomino Duran, Hope etc. Cotto scored a great win Saturday but after Martinez, not so many great wins on his resume. I have Gomez above both but Trinidad has some solid wins at junior middleweight and middleweight to go with a solid welterweight reign.

                    So how has he improved?

This is as ridiculous as saying Hatton improved and was a whole new fighter under Floyd Mayweather Sr.

As for being happy, he seemed very happy with Diaz for the Floyd fight and seems in very good shape aswell. It wasn't until Trout beat him that Pedro wasnt working all of a sudden (as usual for Cotto)

Obviously the range of these stats will alter the percentage along with the calibre of fighters that he's been in with but with that said, he's landed 54% of his power shots in the two fights that he's been with Roach compared to just 39% in the previous 30 fights that were covered by CompuBox.

I tend not to put too much kudos in statistics particularly ones that have been compiled in the manner that CompuBox stats are but they're interesting non the less.
