Cotto deserves all the applause he's getting and a very good job by Freddy and his Wild Card gym to inspire this guy and refocus him. Its not all about a left hook with seasoned guys its more about caring about them and giving them an setting that's healthy and a chance to heal up.

As for the nationalists Cotto has moved up the list but I think these fellows are ahead right now.

    Tito
    Wilfredo Gomez
    Carlos Ortiz
    Pedro Montanez
    Macho Man
.................plus fellows like Ortiz, Torres and Dejesus were really good fighters and are right there in talent and popularity.

Congrates to Cotto & Freddy, they better be careful on their next moves.
I would go for the money and get Mayweather to sign up. If not Canelo but stay away from GGG I think he's to strong and Cotto plays into his strengths too.

Use the Title to entice lil' Floyd if not let GGG take it and go after Canelo it would be a very good money fight!
Wouldn't it be great to freeze Floyd OUT??? Then again Floyd money is the goal, its all about the return and Freddy is playing his card! Ray.
Haha yeah the question being if Cotto scared Money away or not. Maybe Cotto should have given a few rounds away.

Great list Ray I would add the other Wilfredo...That would be Benitez.

Not to the same extent but along those lines.

I would cosign on what Ray said...Mostly because lot of us have been saying it for a while mainly: Lame or not Martinez was very overrated. on the other hand I always felt that while Cotto is not at the very top of the heap he is a great fighter. Not on the order of some of the others we often discuss here but sometimes Cotto is slagged when he shouldn't be.

I get it! The man: "Martinez get out of here and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out!"

"oh and wait!! heres a couple of mil to make like a stork and take a beatin...now beat it!"

We really don't know how Martinez was feeling before the fight. For all we know he felt fine, came out overconfident, Cotto rocked him and Martinez lost his legs and could never recover.

I like to give Cotto the benefit of the doubt here. He looked incredible and looks like a new man. I think if Maidana can give Floyd hell, Roach ' s Cotto beats him.

I think there is a case to be made that cotto could be rated higher than camacho..

History will always look at cotto as the guy that ended the middleweight lineal reign of serg.. 50-60 years from now, people aren't going to remember the bad knees, etc.. Just that cotto beat serg..

To the history section guys, I asked this question in NSb

Do you think that with cotto being lineal champ at mw, a rematch with Floyd could be made and it be similar to Leonard-Donny ladonde where is for 2 weight classes in the same fight,,
I can imagin a Floyd rematch at 154 for all the belts...

I think that fighting Cotto for the middleweight title at a 155 lb catchweight might be very appealing to Mayweather. But I'd be surprised if it were for two different division titles. The fight would be big enough that they wouldn't need bother with the complications.

I doubt Floyd takes a rematch now as Cotto looks tougher and more determined and brought back the left hook, especially to the body. If Floyd does take a Cotto rematch and wins though, would that finally put a great win on his resume?

Cotto may have won more divisional titles than any other PR fighters but you have to take into account the era and circumstances. Look at how he won his titles at 140 and 147. And 154, he got his title by beating Yuri Foreman

But I like Cotto more than some of the 3-divisional champs whom I consider superior. Cotto has been great for boxing, he's exciting and fights good opposition. In a 2 year period from 07-09, he faced Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, and Pacquiao. Then as soon as he left Top Rank, he fought Floyd Mayweather not long after that. He's come back strong from losses, some of them being brutal beatings.
