Holyfield was still a top 10 fighter right up until the Toney fight. Between '99 and '03 this would have been looked at as very good to understandable matchmaking that would have secured not only a top 10 win, but a legendary heavyweight on either K's resume. I think Wlad would have beaten him, but he would have given Vits fits as he did Louis and Bowe, who I believe were both better boxers than VK at the time of their respective fights with Evander.

I think Holyfield would have been brutally ko’ed by both.

          - - More than a dozen media top 10s, but fighters mainly have to pay attention to the Org top 10s for the champ they are targeting. A Bakers' Dozen Media, 5 Orgs, 17 ratings = 100 % Boxing Mayhem...

            Was the money there?

These guys (champions) don't make those decisions based on legacy.

If there was no fight than something else got in the way. I say 'follow the money.'

Now a contender might hold that view; each fight helps him climb higher in the rankings. So pointlessly beating up on a 50+ past legend might be a fight worth passing on.

But a champion takes the fight, if the money is right.

IMO If Wald passed on Holmes it was about the money not his legacy. The fight probably wouldn't have sold enough to meet both fighters' satisfaction. I have heard that in the end, Holmes overvalued himself.

              - - Tubby Lar who used to be skinny was never a draw, hence his chasing of a Foreman fight trying to improve his meager comeback earnings.

His biggest payday was Cooney who was the draw, not Lar.

                - - Poor Holy turned down a decent Tyson offer for their trilogy as an insult to his dwindling finances to get KOed by Toney for nothing,

Ks ain't gonna fight an unlicensed Field, as losing a public relation proposition as can be had. Field was also a DKing fighter, and they wouldn't fight a DKing fighter any more. When IBF champ Bryd ran out his poverty stricken contract with King as the IBF champ, Wlad gave him a good payday and took his belt.

                  - - Had his license suspended after Donald fiasco. It's like you don't really follow boxing, but like to pretend you one of the boys.

So you're trying to say Holy was unlicensed between 1999 until he lost to Toney, being in the top 10 the whole time? Your timeline really sucks.

That was 2004, they could have fought him anytime from 1999 until that point but did not. Thanks for making my point!!
