    So what is your opinion worth?

    Here are some examples of Heavyweight champions defending against unranked challengers,

    Joe Louis versus;

    Thomas
    Roper
    McCoy
    Musto
    Dorazio

    Patterson versus;
    Rademacher

    Frazier versus;
    Stander
    Daniels

    Ali versus;
    Dunn
    Williams
    Cooper

    Holmes versus;
    Ledoux
    Frank
    Rodriguez

    Agree, champions can defend against unranked fighters if the money is right. E.g. Pete Rademacher

    So long they don't sit on the title like. Barney Lebrowitz, LHW title.

    Regarding Dunn and Cooper: they were part of Ali's internationalization of the 'world title' (his European tour). He was selling his brand across the globe. Besides that, 'ole 'Enry earned that second fight via his earlier KD. That issue still had to be settled.

    The Dunn fight was embarrassing but Ali grabbed the money. 1.6 million* for a light workout, you don't walk away from that. It's prize fighting.

    * I think Ali's announced 'guaranteed purse' was less than a million for the Dunn fight, but TV % money boasted it up over a million.

      Nobody denies Vits was winning you moron. Even if he won every round, EVERY round was close. Vits landed 8 more punches the whole fight. That is not dominance.

        Threw way more punches, missed way more punches. Only landed 8 more punches. Defense is a criteria.....and the German fans went crazy for Byrd even though Vits was the adopted hometown favorite.

          • Klitschko landed 132 of 502 total punches (26%) and 115 of 326 power shots (35%). Byrd connected on 124 of 284 total punches (44%) and 82 of 163 power shots (50%).

            They can defend against unranked fighters period .And Vitali defended his WBO title against 3 unranked challengers the last one,Bryd beat him.

            He defended his WBC title 9 times,5 times against unranked challengers So he didnt," clean out the division totally at all"

            " Nonsense. Vitali was the terrorizer. The big names didn't want to end up like Hide, Johnson, Sanders, Williams. There were safer options than Vitali, the man who chased the goat into retirement." Your statement.

            "Vitali The Terrorizer " who in 12 title defences only faced 4 Ring ranked top ten challengers! lol

            CHERRY PICKER !!!!!!!

              Byrd showed more ring discipline; in my universe that looks like draw. But I like draws, they're fair.

                W hike i agree the scorecards were wide( and rightly so) I don't agree the fight was a blowout. If it was and he thought so maybe Vits would have carried on. He didn't and the rest is history. And with a 7" and 40lb weight advantage he should hit harder. But Byrd made him miss so much it was almost comical. He was never close to being stopped.

                If he was only healthy.......he had plenty of opportunities to rematch. He didn't and that's on him. He was healthy for at least 3 quarters of that fight and still couldn't dominate or stop the smaller man coming in on 10 days notice.

                  Being more active counts for nothing,you have to be effective with your activity.
                  He was healthy when he avoided the rematch!!
                  • After Klitschko quit, HBO commentator Larry Merchant said, "He doesn’t have the mentality of a champion. I can hardly believe what I just saw."
                  • Harold Lederman, HBO's unofficial judge, had Klitschko ahead 88-83 at the time of the stoppage.

                    Two of the judges gave Byrd the last round ,which is coincidentally when Vitali decided to quit.

                      Yeah, but always remember Merchant and Lederman were both bought and sold everyday they worked for HBO.
