Peter was a crude puncher in a weak era. Hardly a monster.Comment

I think it compares favorably to Ali’s comeback as I outlined in my post. Vitali had been away longer, was way older and, as Ali, took on the second best hw in the world.Comment

Benny Leonard had a reasonable comeback. Took it all the way to top but didn't have enough to take the title from a bigger, prime, rugged McLaren.
If Foreman hadn't stopped Moorer would you put him at the top of this list?
Truth be told I thought Old George's 12 rounds with Holyfield was the highlight performance of his comeback.
I loved it when in the late rounds he pushed a clinching Holyfield off him and growled "lets fight."Comment

I know its less due to boxing reasons, but Jimmy Braddock may be the most historic, or at least the most famous.
Start- Late 20s highly ranked LHW who earns a title shot
Fall- Title fight loss, broken hand, financially broke in the Great Depression, loses 20 of his next 33 fights
Comeback- 3 straight upset wins out of nowhere, then winning the Heavyweight ChampionshipComment
