I never understood what they saw in Grant besides his size. Or were they just trying to build him up in case he made the leap to elite fighter? He was decent, but I thought he looked stiff and his flaws were pretty obvious.

Usyk and Joyce are coming next. After that?
He also beat Wlad who is considered a great fighter yet never beat a great fighter himself. Longevity and focus certainly count towards greatness in my opinion.

Wlad being 100 years old takes a little shine of that one. He did kick Wilder's ass though.

It does. But he's still the man who beat the man.

            - - Ks ducked by relevant HOFers in their day. Wlad/Vit have umpteen more years of longevity at high levels than the mentally deranged jelly of flubber.

Michael Grant was the new "White Man's Burden," come back in a new Manifest destiny package, declaring that the heavyweight champ of the world was to be an American. lewis was going to lose to everyone! Ruddock, Golota, Briggs, etc...it was just a matter of someone snatching that prize, enter the big, strong, hard hitting Grant... Lewis never even balked. he told Huggy bear Ruiz to take a hike (good for lewis!) and welcomed the challenge.

One of the things that annoys me about that quote (whether applied to Holmes or Fury) is how, here on this boxing history forum, if you ever made that statement about Joe Louis, you would get jumped by multiple posters.

Taking the above argument as gospel Joe Louis had one of the best HW chins ever. (Forgetting the end, Marciano,) Joe went down many times but only once did he not get up. So by this new 'Tyson Fury' standard of greatness all you guys who said Louis didn't have a great chin now have retract your statements. I'll leave room at the bottom.

So which is it, great chin because he nevers goes down? Great chin because he gets up?

Sure wish you guys would make up your mind.

Colonel Bob is my favourite commentator.

                  He’s wrong though of course.

But Fury is a great fighter.

H2H he may have a shout against most HW’s.

                    - - Tubby Lar who used to be skinny was a completely negative personality born of a top shelf inferiority complex. He couldn't carry Rocky's jock strap, but you carrying Lar jock strap for him don't mean shinola in the record book.

You know nothing of my history with Fury before he sunk into the blubber of his flubber. He's become the new Lar not really believing in himself, hence his duckings like Lar.

Tubby Lar like Flubber make can't miss targets, so all the blame is on them. Could throw darts all night with a 100% accuracy rate.

HBO was desperate for an AMERICAN heavyweight. They were forced to deal with traveling overseas for the Klitschkos
