Some who've actually seen em' are calling Tyson Fury the best ever.

Reporters, broadcasters, trainers, managers, promoters, fans and fighters are NOT historians. The questions about all-time compressions are best left to historians alone!
That said, I know Colonel Bob a bit. Very nice guy. He loves boxing and he has been front and center for some very historic moments.
As to his high praise of today's champion?.....you tell me.....

Hall of Fame broadcaster Colonel Bob SheridanSheridan talks to *********.comŽ about Tyson Fury, whom he says could be the greatest heavyweight of all time. The Colonel also talks about dream fights with Tyson Fury against other great heavyweights which include Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes and Lennox Lewis.

“Because of Tyson Fury’s size, Muhammad Ali would box in the hallway and stay away from him. I am talking about the early Ali and not the one after the layoff. I think Ali would be able to stay away from Fury and box his ears off, but in the end if Fury hits him on the chin he is going. Fury could definitely knock Ali out. There were European fighters who had knocked down Ali.

“Lennox Lewis is a super, super fighter. He was very clever. He had a knack of pushing a guy’s head down like he did with the White Buffalo Frans Botha and knocked him out with one shot. Lennox Lewis has got to rate as one of the best heavyweights of all time. Lennox is a dear friend but I think Tyson Fury is something special. A freak of the day. Great racehorses and great athletes are freaks and Tyson Fury is one of them. Tyson Fury gets knocked down but he gets back up. Not a lot of heavyweights who get knocked down can get back up. Wilder put Fury down but he got up. And Wilder can punch.

“Getting up from a knockdown is the key and that is why I rated Larry Holmes as number one. I’ve seen him get knocked out in Pittsburg by Renaldo Snipes and at the count of three his eyes were rolling back in his head and his right foot was quivering but he got up to beat Renaldo. I’ve seen Larry get hit by Ernie Shavers, which everyone agrees is the best heavyweight puncher of all time and he beat him after being down and then the same thing happened against Mike Weaver. Larry got knocked out but got up to beat all three of them. At that time in history, no other super heavyweight had got off the canvas three times after being knocked out. That’s why I rated Larry Holmes as number one. Not the Larry Holmes that boxed Mike Tyson.
“I have Tyson Fury knocking Larry Holmes out. Tyson Fury is a freak of nature like Secretariat, who is a huge man who is super tough and a super great guy.

“Tyson Fury knocks out everybody, in my opinion, until he gets too old. He is the greatest fighter in the world today and could be the best heavyweight who ever lived.“

I have a KO Magazine article explaining how Michael Moorer will likely be unbeatable for the near future and will hold the title for several years.

I suspect that writer was considered 'in the know' having seen them all too.

The "U Guys" (those believed unbeatable) has a short list, so Fury making that list is impressive but in the end they all lose before they're suspose to.

Betting against Fury in the next couple of fights may bear fruit if the odds are long enough.

    Boxing History's U Guys

    Sullivan
    Jeffries
    Dempsey
    Louis
    Liston
    Foreman
    Ali
    Tyson

    All, at onetime, thought unbeatable.

As erratic as Fury's personality is I suspect his number will come up sooner than later.

What I find interesting is the concept of knowingly jumping the gun. The Modern era holds only two examples (Marciano and Fury) of heavyweight champions who have never tasted defeat. The file on Marciano is forever sealed. We can speculate that he could have been beaten, or that it was possible to defeat him somehow, given his cuts, knockdowns, close calls, etc, but those theories will never advance beyond Speculative. Fury is a different bird. He might lose yet. If he retired tomorrow it would be for him as it is for Marciano....strictly somebody's opinion that that it is possible to defeat him; and like Marciano they would find fault with his gross body of work, with, in both cases some degree of validity. I'd love to see Fury finish up with a flourish by taking out Usyk, Joyce and Joshua. I see Wilder on the verge of capturing another alphabelt, freed up by being stripped off of someone for mandatory defense non-compliance, but I've seen enough Fury-Wilder action, good as it's been. Doing more labor to assert his dominance of the era it the better way for Fury to cement his legacy, as it carries greater risk. Let Marciano keep the perfect record alone, as that's his most prized possession.

Historians are professional opinion givers, you should take their opinions with a grain of salt, you can watch tapes taking a neutral stance and make a conclusion for yourself, this is the best way.

          - - Must be confusing historic for histrionic because skinny Bob who used to be obese never called a fight he couldn't stop slobbering over historic or not.

Gosh, Dempsey the best ever because he got knocked out by Snipes before getting off the canvas to knock him out!
Gosh, Foreman the best ever because he got knocked out by Snipes before getting off the canvas to knock him out!
Gosh, Tommy the best ever because he got knocked out by Snipes before getting off the canvas to knock him out!

I've known a lot of nice folks. Some shouldn't be voting. Some shouldn't be driving. Some shouldn't be drinking. Some shouldn't be swimming in a lake or ocean. Some shouldn't have kids. Some shouldn't be boxing judges or refs, promoters or managers. Many shouldn't do any of those things, but golly gee, they sure are nice, so how can anyone stop them?

Some shouldn't be boxing announcers, but mysteriously are, or perhaps not so mysteriously since they overvomit the fight such that media viewers lose out on what actually happened as their soft clay can only remember what Skinny Bob who used to obese imprinted on them.

Lol, it makes you so made anyone casting Holmes in a positive light. You're going to have to move past that anger and just accept Larry is to most people in the know a top 5 all time great heavyweight. I just thought you would be happy Sheridan rates Fury above Holmes....something I personally disagree with. But than it came rushing back to me, you hate Fury as well!

Well, he beat Wilder twice. Say whatever you want to about Wilder, but he's a 21st century Earnie Shavers without any of those mid career losses. In this century Tyson Fury has beaten a still reigning Wladimir Klitschko and an undefeated Deontay Wilder. Who else could he have beaten in the 21st century on that level????? Usyk and Joyce are coming next. After that?
