Frazier and Marciano: Between the TWO of them... would not, at first glance, have the attributes to impress any boxing guru... Joe, bad eye, one punch... Marciano, two left feet, no reach... Go figure lol! Both men remarkable fighters.

Frazier fought amongst others, a very good puncher... One of the best. Bob Foster. Just because hs stopped Bob in his tracks the assumption is that size was the variable... Joe was bigger but im not convinced is was size that allowed Joe to take Foster down with such ease.

I knew Bob a little from early IBHOF days. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. Younger fans can think Tommy Hearns. Really young ones, perhaps Anderson Silva. Tall, thin, fantastic ability to channel his own bodyweight.
Bob had murdering power. Deadly. It made him one of the best 175 pounders of all time. Unlike some of the others, though, like Carpentier, Loughran, Conn, Moore, Harold Johnson, Spinks, Roy Jones; Foster didn't translate as well north of 180. He managed to by the only man ever to cut Ali though. Frazier was a wrecking ball.

If you know anything about George Chuvalo you know that he is as rock hard outside the ring as he was in it. Past 80 now, he remains as sharp as ever, and can still beat the **** outta most grown men. Amen. George is always up for sitting with a fan and discussing his amazing career. A guy who shared the ring with Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Quarry, Ellis, Bonavena, Cleroux, Mathis, Etc., some of them twice, never suffered a knockdown, ever. And George could CRACK! Thredstarter was on about Frazier never fought a power puncher or whatever. Not wanting to hurt anybody's feelings on a forum. Happy to help him finish his research. Frazier did indeed face one.

Foster had superb power as a LHW but IMO didn't bring that power up to HW with him. He had nothing to keep Frazier off him and he landed cleanly on Ali several times only to have Ali smile and taunt him. (Granted Ali had a superb chin.)

Because there will always be ****** people set in their ways, no matter what the evidence. That why things gets so messed up because it's not just opinions, but people often don't even agree on things that are facts.

I really try while I am here... Not so much pushing my opinions, but getting people to look at things like film, and learning what to look for... here is another lu lu: "Ya know Frank tole me about how great them guys was before the modern era see? so I played a trick on em! ha! I took some pics of them ole timers and tole Frank "hey can you believe how sloppy these guys are? can hardly throw a right punch!" Well Frank seen a ghost! when I tole him he was lookin at the likes of Corbet, Fitz and all!"

The thing people miss... preclassical boxing looked entirely different because they had an entirely different concept of timing, distance, and because of differnt conditions in the ring. They also generated power entirely different because hitting with bigger gloves takes a different kind of hitting power... power transfers differently from a bare hand, or very light glove, than a "muffler" the old term for gloves.

Fraizer was never the same fighter after the first Ali fight. when he was coming up he fought nothing but top contenders. I picked Foreman to win that fight because Frazier two fights after Ali he did not look good. He was lacking the fire he once had.
