Imo, DAZN know that they are overpaying Canelo by a considerable amount, but have decided it will be worth it in the long run.
Getting the biggest PPV star in US boxing on board so soon after launch is going to do wonders for their "brand" in the States.
And it will underline what their CEO said at the launch announcement - the days of expensive PPVs for big fights in the US will soon to be over - DAZN is the future.
Yup! I agree with you in that they know they're overpaying him.
I'm sure it's not lost on the DAZN CEO's mind that his competition(ESPN, FOX and Showtime) will see this and also try to make sure that they keep their subscribers happy by giving a quality product.
I don't think its risky at all.
Canelo is getting $365M for 11 fights which will start in Dec. 2018 & go until Sept 2023 potentially.
Thats 58 months. So basically Canelo needs to steer an average of 629,941 subscribers to DAZN per month during the duration of his deal for DAZN to break even.
58mos x $9.99 = $579.42 x 629,941 people = $365M
It's really a great deal for Canelo and GBP.
I think the people running DAZN know what they're doing but based on your calculations there is still some level of risk.
You are assuming that the 629, 941 "Canelo" subscribers will keep their subscriptions paid up for 5 years but the truth of the matter they only need to subscribe for the 11 months that Canelo will be fighting.
Granted, some of them will keep the subscription paid up because there may be other content they are interested in.
If they just use DAZN for Canelo then on the month of the fight there should be at least 3.32M subscribers to break even.
I think if a point needed to be deducted, the ref should have taken away a point from Khan for pushing Peterson's head down even though there also was way too much pushing from Khan.
The Knock down in round 1 should not have counted, replays show this.
Now, if the points were not taken and the Knock down not counted - the fight would have been a majority draw.
After this fight I don't see how Khan beats Bradley.
yeah, amir comes into your hometown to get straight JOBBED by your hometown ref. . . gets cheated on the scorecards. . . and you can't have the common damn decency to give him a rematch? he LOST that fight. . . plain and simple. . . lose respect for peterson if he doesn't give khan a rematch, after what khan did for him. . khan didn't have to fight him, AND IN DC?!
Wasn't Peterson mandatory for the IBF title that Khan had?
Sure this is another wake up call but Amir must know what he needs to fix. If he's going to complain about robbery then he won't really fix the problem.
I saw the fight again and felt that the fight was even. Considering the two points deducted, I agree with the 113-112 scores and totally disagree with 115-110 score.
I think the main issue here is that Amir started celebrating before the scores were announced. Also, being HBO and the promoter's guy, Amir felt entitled to special treatment.
Amir says he was a clean fighter but he kept pushing Peterson's head down, pushing constantly and he hit Peterson during a break - how clean is that.
Also after being penalized in round 7, Amir kept doing exactly what he was penalized for. How then does he complain when he's penalized again?
What has this world come to? We should not reward weakness.
Why would you praise someone for getting knocked his lights out or for being greedy and stupid enough to take a fight that had mismatch written all-over?
This is not a movie, it's real life.
Khan had no business being in there with Canelo no matter how well you think he was doing.
Khan should fight at 147 until he is ready for the next weight. His defence is not that great and he was getting caught by Canelo's left hook, so it was just a matter of time.
This should teach him conserve energy because and he spends too much of it in his movement.
This is the best fight at 160 (if I remove Canelo from the equation).
If GGG wins this one he should be given the credit he deserves.
Canelo should pass the JCC fight and go for BJS. Then we can have ourselves a Middleweight unification in September.
It's there a site, where I can see the episodes ahead of this amazing fight ?
Thank you in advance.
Check the HBO site. You can watch the full episode from there.
floyd is featherfisted.....He was not able to knock-out a natural superfeatherweight fighter....I think Khan will destroy Floyd who is not a hard puncher like Maidana...
If you thin Khan will destroy Mayweather on the basis that Khan survived a scare in the Maidana fight then you should rethink your statement. Mayweather may not have a big punch but he's got speed and is far more skilled than Maidana. If anything, this fight should tell you that Khan ain't ready for Floyd.
maidana won bigtime and was robbed end of story. khan aint ****, hes just pacs sparring partner, winning half the fight then losing the entire second half and pretty much being knocked out on your feet, while running just to survive isnt"balls" or "great" or more importantly mean u "won", khan got a gift decesion because hes a hype job nothing more.not impressed, maidana is the man not a -mere-con!
Maidana ain't won $hit! Khan clearly won that fight, he won most of the rounds plus had two 10-8 rounds from the knock down and the point deduction.
I'm no Khan fan but he clearly won the fight. I know Khan's got a big mouth and some boxing fans want him to get KTFO or at least lose but let's give him credit when he does well.
The predictable response of many in this forum for Pac's comment is derision and ridicule. That's understandable, since Floyd is older than Pac.
But let me ask you this:
which suffers from more wear and tear? The wheels on the car or the spare tire?
How can you compare rubber to flash and blood. Do you have any education what-so-ever?
Tires are artificial and human beings are natural beings.
Mind, Body and Spirit - Does a tire have that.
:sad2::sad2::sad2:
it is true that the human body regenerates.
BUT.
there is just so much damage the body and brain can take that it can no longer repair itself. otherwise, ali and roach wouldn't have the physical afflictions they are currently going through.
boxing is such a brutal sport that a single punch can end your career and very possibly your life.
as for ricky hatton, i wish him the best and i hope that he succeeds in whatever he decides to do.
but there are just too many factors out there to know for sure if he can work out a successful comeback.
So in the nutshell you're saying: Hatton is not getting younger and a boxer is damaged the more he takes punishment.
Then this debate has nothing to do with a boxer's layoff. It has to do with how much punishment a boxer takes and how well he treats his body.
A boxer takes punishment because he does not have defence and that means the style of fighting.
You're right this is a pointless degate. I'll let you debate with other who have similar ideas to yours.
Cheers.
From staying active being in many fights.. If u have a boxer that's 23 and has been in over 100 tough fights and then u have the other boxer that's 25 who's only been in 30 fights or so with 1-2 years off on between, when they both reach their 30s who do u think is gonna be more damage good as in physically and mentally?? U don't have to be a rocket scientist to see this.. Pad didn't mean old as in who's gonna reach 40 first he meant old as in slowed down..
You don't have to be a rocket scientist but you need some education.
Your answer: The boxer who does not take care of his body will be more damaged goods.
Do you think Ricky Hatton with this long layoff is getting younger?
though the mind and spirit aren't physical, its presence will NOT negate the fact that the body WILL receive damage through wear and tear.
Yes the body will have wear and tear but you shouldn't compare a human body to a tyre. The human body regenerates but tyres don't.
Look at Ricky Hatton. He's been on a layoff since 2009. Does the same rule apply to him in this case? Do you think he'll be sharper in the ring if he returns?
This is going to be a very good fight but not the greatest fight Top Rank has promoted in 40 years. I think the Cotto-Margarito will still be there when this fight is done.
Anyway, what's with the tickets? I thought the fight was sold out already. Didn't Arum say there were 2000 tickets left. That was a while back. Arum is full of shit. 2000 tickets would have been sold out by now considering that the rest was sold in a matter of days.
This thread is about him as a person, so that's what I addressed wit my post homey. And to to get full respect from fans, if he even cares about that anymore, he does need to pick up where he left off and beat the top guys at WW. But that's anotha thread altogether bro.
I got you.
It's about promotion. If the promoters put time on you then you'll be a star. Do you remember how Canelo was mentioned as a possible opponent for Mayweather. That was not by mistake - It's promotion. Blame your promoter.
This is just Commercial Law.
Look at it this way.
Since the said apology how many of you forgot about the PED claims? Zero, it's going to take time for people to forget that. Pac did more damage to his name by refusing the damn tests in the first place.
Law is for Lawyers.

for those of you that are screaming robbery or that jmm won, let’s break it down…
based on total punches landed, paquaio won 9 rounds to jmm ‘s 3 …that’s giving jmm the rounds that were even, rounds 3 and 9
based on jabs landed, pacquaio won 8 rounds to jmm’s 4….again, thats giving jmm the round that was even, round 8
the most effective punches, the power punches….
Based on power punches landed, pacquaio won 8 rounds to jmm’s 4….no even rounds there…
Come on now. These stats don't tell which blows were heavier.
the thing many people seem to miss is this, if they do a CW at 155, and Canelo upsets GGG, then Canelo now has 3 MW belts without ever fighting at 160.
I don't know how any boxing fan can say that is ok.
Canelo has been fighting at MW for awhile now. He can't claim he isn't a MW while weighing 168, 30 days out for a fight against Cotto.
The Irony...
Can you share the link that shows how much GGG rehydrates to?
I feel bad that you are in denial. You need to take this up with BPP. He posted this creditable post. You come on here and add this. Not feeling it buddy. You got some links? We been in boxing for some time...we know Mayweathers between the lines talk.
The ringtv.com
Manny will take out Cotto in 8, Manny will be too fast for Cotto. As soon as Cotto gets cut over the right eye, from Manny's overhead left, he won't be able to fight nomore. Manny won't be as forgiving as Clottey was, if Cotto is hurt Manny will take him down.
It seems like most posters here are forgeting the most important thing and thats Gameplan. This fight will be won in the corner. I believe Khan has an very good corner.
I think Roach will have an excellent gameplan for this fight.
The one thing that I've seen with Tim is that he can get hit easily. I'm sure Roach will have Khan ready to exploit that in the fight.
This promises to be a good fight and I have Khan by decision.
I think he has a better chance of a TKO , with ricardson throwing in the towel to keep SSM from getting beat up like Marg.
I think so too.
That's a funny avatar you got there.
This is just plain BS from Sanchez.
GBP said they offered 8 figures and Tom sent a counter offer to GBP just the other day.
Now with all this happening Sanchez is coming out saying there won't be a fight because Oscar is scared.
How about letting Tom and Oscar continue negotiating and stop feeding the hate in the media.
Truth be told: Canelo has a far better résumé than that of GGG and he's only 26 years old, so if anyone needs a legacy fight it's GGG.
