I would see Pavlik beating Calzaghe in a good, hard fought fight. But I have to be honest, Calzaghe is a fighter w/ no POP really. He barely has notable fighters that he has beaten on his resume. And he has been fighting for years now. I see Calzaghe taking the Jones fight as cop out to avoid Pavlik. I mean if he really wanted to go out on top and to show the world how great he claims he is, why not take the fight against the new next great young fighter (which Pavlik is), beat him and shut everybody up? To add, who has Jones really beaten in his long as career? I'm not saying that he wasn't a good or entertaining fighter, but he's been washed up since Tarver's lame-ass knocked him out right before Glenn Johnson put him to sleep. Jones should have stayed in the booth, commenting on fights. I wouldn't pay to watch this fight, I feel Calzaghe took the easiest road out. Anyways, Calzaghe by decision... but I don't really care.
Pac has always been a good sport. He even said it himself after the fight that he was surprised that the fight wasn't stopped way before it ended cuz he was getting worried that he was hurting Diaz pretty badly. But I also liked how Diaz interviewed. His choice of words were great. He started off by saying "The fucker was to fast". I like that, I like how down to earth he seemed through out the post fight interview. I hope he rebounds well. Pacman proved he is the best pound for pound king now. Kelly Pavlik is next... after when/if he beats Abraham.
I often find it funny how boxers almost always thank God after a fight for giving them the strength to almost kill another man.
I agree, it is funny if you think about it.
But to the guy who started the thread... I understand what your trying to say but life is full of choices and getting into a ring is a choice that boxers make and they know the risk in what they choose to do. I'm sure there are many boxers out there who mulled over and prayed to GOD for the answer to the same questions you had- "Should I do this? Is this for me?" and I'm sure they all came to same conclusion (cuz they obviously got into the ring)- GOD said to them go for it. So I don't think it's a matter of the violence being bad and not "good in God's eyes" the issue, it's just that boxing, like any other sport either as a participant or fan, isn't for everybody.
But please let's not make boxing or any other sport a topic of "is it a sin or not?" It's a sport. It isn't church. Let's just enjoy it and any other sport, for what it is.
It is exciting to watch Hayes swing away. But the best part of the fight was Barretts' ring entrance. Even though I like Hayes, I have a feeling when he fights W.Klitschko, he can keep Hayes at a distance w/ that jab that he wins all his fights with. I hate to say it, but that jab is pretty sick, boring but sick.
Someone just needs to teach him how to think about what he wants to say in his mind and then say it. I dunno, I don't want to say he's terrible but the man is not good at what HBO pays him to do. Every fight he sounds confused and f**ks up every boxer's name. But on the flip side he sometimes does have good point or to that he chimes in. But over all, he's terrible.
I agree w/ Mayweather/Hatton... but the one thing that makes a Hatton fight feel great is because of all the singing his fans do, which I wish more fights were like that.
But I love the feeling that comes through me right before the main event of a fight night. Most recently was Cotto/Margarito. I love the anticipation of what is going to happen, the hype leading to this encounter, hearing the announcers, especially Jim, Emanuel, Larry and/or Max talking about the two fighters. Watching the video clips of the two fighters. The side by side comparisons of their weight, height and reach... and then the fighter's ring entrance music comes on and the two fighters walking down to the ring. The announcements, Michael Buffer's money words "LET'S GET READY TO RRRRUUUUMMMBLE"!! It is an electrifying feeling that runs through my body and makes every hair on my body stand up. It's almost like slow motion, it's like that moment right before your about bust a great nut. GREAT SHIT!! Not even the Super Bowl gives me the same feeling... well only if my team is playing in the super bowl but it doesn't look like that's going to happen this year. Other than the violence, skill and heart that the fighters give us, this is why I love boxing.
Shane most def had the cleaner punches throughout the fight, even when he slowed down at the end. Mayorga fights like 2 elementary school punks talking shit to each other and then charging towards each other swinging their arms wildly w/ their eyes closed hoping to connect. I mean Mayorga did have his moments connecting on a few punches but to be honest, it seems to me Mayorga is just an entertainer and doing it for whatever money he can get. It's an act and he thrives on it and fans like him because he entertains us w/ his cartoon like actions. He is like that ugly girl w/ a uni-brow and f***ed up teeth who has big breast and nice ass that you can't stop staring at... we stare because she has big breast and a nice ass. It entertains you even though it hurts to look. (I hope that made sense.) Anyways I can see why some people have Mayorga winning the fight before he got knocked the f**k out, he threw a lot punches but barely connected w/ any of them. But I still think both fighters need to bow out. Shane didn't look the same to me and Mayorga is... well I can't explain what the hell he is. Great KO though... props on the final punch that knocked out Mayorga and showed us again that confused, what the hell just happen face Mayorga gets when ever his ass is plastered on the canvas. Funny shit!!!
I agree... kid from Ghana straight hit the Brasilian guy w/ clean head shots and body shots and he recieved no points. He even knocked off the guy's head gear off w/ a clean head shot and no points. BULLSHIT!!!
If Jones beat Calzaghe... I'll mos def be laughing my ass off drunk!! Reason be, Calzaghe made this fight happen because Jones is washed up, so he knew he has a win. Truth of the matter is, Jones is washed up and Calzaghe should beat him. But I really do hope Jones beats him, to show how much of a clown Calzaghe and his camp is.
It's funny to me how "Slap Happy" Calzaghe puts himself on this great, big pedestal of boxing royalty... Dude needs to shut the fuck up!! And so does his pops or anyone who drinks the Calzaghe koolaid. I really hope that Jones beats him, but probably won't because he's washed up. Which is the only reason Calzaghe is fighting him. You really think Calzaghe could have beat Jones in his prime, before Jones got knocked the fuck out consecutive times? I don't think so.
I usually dislike Paulie and root against him for his soft tip-tap style and how he's usually all bark and no bite, but everything he said during the post fight interview I agree with. I can't believe I am saying this but... HE WAS ROBBED!!. I was rooting for Diaz to KO him, but I was impressed with how Pauilie boxed to a victory or at least a draw. Like he said, neither him or Diaz ran away with the fight to deserve 118-110 score but he most def did not lose that fight. I'd like to see a rematch in a neutral location and w/ neutral judges and see what happens. I respect Paulie a little more now for saying what he said during the post- fight interview.
Side note: Is anyone else tired of listening to Lennox Lewis f**king up boxers names? Can somebody please teach him how to think what he wants to say before he spits it out. The man is terrible as a commentator.
Taylor doesn't have a history of being a trash talker, so I'm hesitant to rush to judgement on his comment about Pavlik. It's just out of place with any comment he's made previously, and even in this context he says "I felt bad for Kelly." To me it came off as him empathizing with Kelly as a fighter, knowing that a lopsided beatdown like that would make him feel like he were no longer a champion, even if you still hold the belts because the fight was at a catchweight.
I'm sure many people will accuse me of grasping at straws to defend Taylor, but the fact is that he is NOT your typical trash-talker. 99% of his comments to the media are him talking about himself - NOT talking about other fighters. He's an introspective guy and I am interpreting his comment in that fashion.
Comparing him to a loudmouth asshat like Joe Calzaghe all of a sudden is ridiculous. If anyone is showing himself to be a jackass by having the "gall" to say some stupid shit, it is you for equating him to the Welshman.
I understand you have to defend your local boy, but when Taylor opened his mouth and called Pavlik a champion on paper, to me that makes him seem like a jackass who is still hurt by the nature of how he lost his titles to someone he thought he'd roll over easily. I understand he isn't a trash talker and I may have gone to far in comparing him to CalzASSghe, because Calzaghe is the biggest tool in the sport, but not giving the proper respect to the man who beat him twice, once by knock out, and calling him a paper champion is a jackass move.
What is Enzo's grudge against Pavlik? Enzo is a jackass and is just talking straight shit. I find the Calzghe camp to be annoying personally. Seems to me like the Calzaghe camp is always looking for a chance to put down Pavlik. If they feel like Pavlik isn't anything special, than why they did not choose to fight him and prove their claim to the world of how great Calzaghe is, and how Pavlik isn't in the same "class"? Rather they chose to fight a washed up Roy Jones, Jr. Calzghe barely "beat" B-Hop. I say B-Hop won that fight. AND... Gary Lockett shouldn't even open his mouth. If Pavlik wasn't anything special, then why did his bitch ass go to his knees three times and quit in the 3rd round? I was there, I witnessed his bitch ass live going down to his knees. I'll be there for the Pavlik/Hopkins fight. I just hope B-Hop actually fights and not hold the shit outta Pavlik. Pavlik by UD.
Calzaghe is an ASS!! I was there for the Pavlik/Lockett fight and right after Pavlik made Calza...I mean Lockett quit on his knees, Pavlik said while being interviewed by Max Kellerman that he wanted Calzaghe next. And we all cheered because thats what the fans wanted. But now that CalzASSghe signed up to fight Jones, he's talking shit. Like I said before and I'll say it again and again, over-hyped Calzghe and his camp are all a bunches of morons. I really hope that Calzaghe retires after winning or losing to Jones cuz I am tired of talking or hearing about him. I don't think Jones will beat him,he's washed up.
If Cotto would have gone to the body like he's known for, then the fight may have been different. I'm not saying Cotto out right wins, but body shots would have taken some steam outta Margarito going into the later rounds. I still don't get why Cotto was head hunting more than going to the body. I mean he should have realized in the 5 or 6 rnd that Margarito was walking through all those head shots, and then start aiming for the body. Never the less, Margarito fucked him up!! Even more I'm impressed of how he was taking so many head shots from Cotto and never gave up throwing. I liked Margarito's determination, he really wanted this. I want a rematch, and I want Cotto to win just so we can have a 3rd fight.
That fight was sloppy to me, even for Mosely who usually delivers a good boxing performance. But I am glad that it ended the way it did. The only reason Moseley took so long to KO Mayorga is because Mayaorga was way bigger and stronger than him, reason be he put on 12 pounds after the weigh-in. But at the end, I think both fighters are well past their prime and should think about bowing out. Especially Mayorga, I think we can all agree we are tired of seeing him mouth off and then get his ass knocked out.
I understand and witnessed B-Hop's domination of Pavlik and give him all the credit in the world, and it is inspiring, but I don't understand how Jermain Taylor is calling Pavlik a champion on paper. I understand Taylor beat B-Hop twice but he could've easily lost those fights. They were both very close fights. But calling Pavlik a champion on paper is pretty disrespectful and ignorant on Taylor's behalf when Pavlik put Taylor's ass to sleep in the first fight, taking his titles and causing him to run away into his locker room like a little kid running home crying after getting his lunch money taken away and then losing again to Pavlik in the second fight. I just don't understand the gall in which Taylor is calling Pavlik a champion on paper. It was HIS titles that Pavlik took from him. I'd bet if B-Hop would have fought Taylor with the same intensity and style that he beat Pavlik with, he'd easily beat Taylor in their fights. Taylor in my eyes now falls in the same category as I put Calzaghe- JACKASS!!
I was there rooting for Pavlik, but I got to say B-Hop did do the most "damage". I mean for his age he did step it up, he actually came out a threw more punches than head butts, good for him. I still think he's boring but I give him all the credit in the world. Pavlik laid an egg.
I believe Pac will beat DLH. Even though DLH is taller and bigger, like the old saying goes speed kills. I think Manny's speed will be tough for aging Oscar. Plus Manny's got decent power packed into his punches. I believe Manny will win. Just like I believe my Redskins will beat the Cowboys (I pray!!) this weekend!! I BELIEVE GOT DAMN IT!!!
Hatton shouldn't even be talking bout this fight. Both Manny and Oscar would massacre him.
