1st off I disagree with the HBO crew. I had Mayorga ahead going into the 12th. I had it like 6-5 for Mayorga. I dont mind them saying that Shane was winning but they acted like it was a total blowout and that if you had Mayorga even close then your a idiot. I dont think they were just supporting the house fighter like others think. I think that when a guy fights good for a couple of rounds then that stays in there minds forever. Theyve done it for years. Meanwhile there still talking about how great a fighter is doing but the other guy is outfighting him while there still talking about what there guy was doing. Its like they cant talk and watch the fight at the same time.
I also disagree with everyone saying that Shane is done. I thought Shane looked the exact same way he did against Cotto. The only difference was that Mayorga was so huge, he's so wild, and then Shane got tired because he went for the KO so early. I thought he still looked good but he just really faded after the 6th round because he ran out of gas. This was no doubt the Shane that fought Mosley. I also disagree with people who say that Shane admitted that he wasnt the same guy in the post fight interview. I think all he said was that he's not going to wait for Cotto & Margarito. I dont think he was scared of Berto at all. I just think that he doesnt care for that fight because it isnt big money and Berto hasnt done enough yet for Shane to get alot of credit with that win so why bother. I wouldnt be shocked at all if he fought a Paul Williams or someone.
I do agree with the people who said that he was slurring his words though. However, Im giving him the benefit of doubt as of now because it couldve been that he was just really tired after a tought fight in which he was clearly out of gas in the 2nd half, fighting a huge guy, and going all out in the 12th to get a KO. That couldve made him talk that way but I am worried if he is slurring. Then he would need to retire but I dont think he's doing that because he wasnt doing it at all before this fight and usually its a progression when things like that happened. I still think that he looks good, he would kill Berto, would give Cotto a ton of trouble and maybe even win. I would actually still have loved to see him fight Floyd but not anymore since everyone else thinks that he sucks and is done.
I can't see how anyone had it for Mayorga, he did well in rounds 1-3 then faded and just wrestled, complained and hit behind the head. I gave Shane every round past round 4. 8-4 for Shane and a 10-7 round at the end Shane got the KO in the end anyway.
I don't get what all the fuss is about, I could care less if Mayorga was winning ALL the rounds before the 12th, he got legitimately KNOCKED THE **** OUT BEFORE the bell, who was winning or who was ahead does not matter because the result was as obvious as anything can be.
If you want to talk about if Shane needs to retire after this fight, I think he is at the end of his career, maybe 1 or 2 fights MAX. I actually think Mayorga was the one that looked worse. All he did was try to hit behind the head, MANY low blows that went unnoticed, clinching, round house tries, a lot of punching and a lot of missing. It was not style that was pleasing to the fan.
Shane most def had the cleaner punches throughout the fight, even when he slowed down at the end. Mayorga fights like 2 elementary school punks talking shit to each other and then charging towards each other swinging their arms wildly w/ their eyes closed hoping to connect. I mean Mayorga did have his moments connecting on a few punches but to be honest, it seems to me Mayorga is just an entertainer and doing it for whatever money he can get. It's an act and he thrives on it and fans like him because he entertains us w/ his cartoon like actions. He is like that ugly girl w/ a uni-brow and f***ed up teeth who has big breast and nice ass that you can't stop staring at... we stare because she has big breast and a nice ass. It entertains you even though it hurts to look. (I hope that made sense.) Anyways I can see why some people have Mayorga winning the fight before he got knocked the f**k out, he threw a lot punches but barely connected w/ any of them. But I still think both fighters need to bow out. Shane didn't look the same to me and Mayorga is... well I can't explain what the hell he is. Great KO though... props on the final punch that knocked out Mayorga and showed us again that confused, what the hell just happen face Mayorga gets when ever his ass is plastered on the canvas. Funny shit!!!
unless your calzaghe who is the bigger version of mayorga but with much much less power of course.
Well of course its different when it comes to the Zaghes!!!! :boxing:
Mayorga didnt land much at all. Throwing alot of random shit into the air and celebrating each round doesnt give you the fight. But yeah, Im amazed anyone could think Mayorga was even close in that fight (did you all have money on it?). Mosley landed almost every single meaningful punch. Mosely won 8 rounds and got two knock downs in the last one. It was one sided.

i don't think shane is done, mayorga just looked better than most thought he would.shane has fought 3 tough opponents back to back and has looked good against all 3

Maybe it's just me, but I really didn't notice any slurring. I'll have to look at it again.
Almost all of the meaningful punches in the fight were landed by Mosley.
The rounds Mosley lost weren't because Mayorga was winning them decisively it was more that Shane at times wasn't doing enough. All the same, Mayorga won some rounds.
But Shane landed so many of the obvious punches and countered well, so I am pretty amazed that people had Mayorga ahead myself.
I had it 7-4 Mosley going into the 12th.
And Shane's accumulated punches are what did Mayorga in in the 12th.
And Mayorga bitched to the referee every time he got hit with a body punch. Mayorga did nothing after the first few rounds of wild right hands. It's impossible for me to understand what some of these people who had Mayorga ahead were watching. The fighter who is landing the meaningful punches and the majority of punches is winning. Why that's so difficult for some people to admit to or understand is beyond me.
I had it 6-4-1 for Mayorga going in the 12th rd. Shane was not doing anything in the fight, Mayorga made the fight.
i had it 6-4-1 for shane.mayorga looked better in this fight than he did in the delahoy trinidad fights
Its amazing how punch stats are flavour of the week when it suits people.
Having it wide for Mayorga may have been a push but I couldve seen 6-5, 7-4 easily. Mosley had 2 great rounds the whole fight. Whether you had him ahead or not, he didnt look good at all.
I actually don't place a lot of stock in them, I just threw it in there. I haven't seen it so I have to take what I can get. I was mainly going on the opinions of those who I think are right 99% of the time.
It's true I didn't see it and I qualified my post by stating that up front. It just seems that pretty much all the most knowledgable guys on here scored it for Mosley and he dominated the punch stats also so it just seems that having it wide for Mayorga is a little strange.

How can you make a legit comment on it and even criticise those who scored it one way over another? Come on.... I hate when people do that.
Where you gettin this half the jabs, half the power punches stuff from anyway?
I would lean towards Mayorga wide than Mosley wide which is how I hear HBO had it. Like I said, Mosley looked really tentative, he was jabbing air most of the night. Dont get me wrong, Mayorga didnt exactly put on a clinic but he was winning the rounds in my book.

I didn't see the fight but it sounds like your commentators were terrible. Had Mayorga wide? How is a guy landing half the jabs and power punches of his opponent well ahead? Sounds ridiculous to me. The most knowledgable guys on here all seem to think Mosley was winning.

I was watching from the UK and had Mayorga winning. Mosely's timing and accuracy just seemed off.
But it did seem like HBO were only ever showing Shane's highlights (the occasional right hand) between rounds.
Our commentators had Mayorga wide and were basically saying Mosely should quit

disagree. Shane is a vastly superior boxer, yet he was not able to outbox mayorga. Shane rarely used his jab, clinching might have been avoided if he had jabbed. Mayorga would get close and clinch, Shane went along with it as well.
I'm still waiting to hear what Mayorga did to win more than a few rounds. All he was able to do was make Shane look bad. He didn't land any meaningful punches after the first few rounds.

Same here.
Yeah, Mayorga made the fight. He made it shitty. Almost all the clean punches were landed by Mosley.

Shane's sort of slurring his words sometimes. It's nothing major. It's not like James Toney was Thursday night. That was troubling. Shane seems just fine.
I agree with the crew tonight. Another biased performance. It was pretty much even going into the last two rounds. Mostly because of Shane just not doing anything though. Mayorga was almost winning by default. Because he rarely landed anything significant himself.
