Those two fighters have been outed and pounded on for their failures in testing. Meanwhile this dude was melting down for most of his career at no impact to his gas tank while in victor contes camp and nobody batted an eye. Also, those two fighters while maybe less naturally gifted than him at least have exciting fights, they go for the kill if they smell blood in the water. Haney does not, will not if he’s got any kinda lead going into the second half of a fight.
He's just talking shh, he just said he didn't enjoy the sport anymore and even tried a comeback but his heart wasn't in it. The only thing he wants them to get him is a pork chop and a tree to take a nap under. He's hyping up his first promotional event and nothing more. I like Maidana but he ain't coming back.
I mean you got legends from PR and Cuba.. wtf happened to dominicans? i know they dominate baseball but i dont get how every dominican boxer sucks ass. i mean i cant think of one. MAYBE joan guzman but he failed to reach his potential being undisciplined.
D.R. is a baseball country, there is considerably more money in baseball even for a prospect than there is in boxing and D.R. has never really had the infrastructure to for much of an even amateur boxing program. A baseball player in D.R. can live a pretty good life off the sport even if they don't make it off the island. You had kids back in the 70's and 80s who learned how to play baseball using the caps from those five-gallon water bottles and hit them with tree branches. Them dude made something out of nothing. Give it twenty to thirty years and that'll change but as it stands right now you don't have any world class trainers in DR or any world class trainers being brought in to train these guys either.
Anyone with any out of proportion reaction to anything happening is boxing is someone who simply can't get their adrenaline rush from the match itself and needs some hysteria to enjoy the sport. It's boxing, we watch it because a single punch can change a fight, we watch it because everything is on the line. Underdogs manage to win in boxing it's not that shocking that it happens if you've watched it and enjoyed the sport long enough. If Broner pulls it off kudos to him...next fight...he's also fighting a 40 year old version of a fighter...father time is the only one really undefeated.
Pacquaio simply because given the benefit of doubt Broner just hasn't shown up in big fights to date. Pacquaio is 40, slower, and seems keen to take more risks years after the Marquez loss but so who knows if he walks into something this fight. Given the only comparison to be made here between the two in Porter who Manny used to bludgeon in camp and given that Broner lost to Porter although dropping him. It's going to take one hell of a transformation on Broner's part or Manny to make a big mistake for this fight to not go as expected.
Pick anywhere in the U.S. You seriously think Khan would sell more tickets than Garcia??
C'mon :lol1:
If you believe so, good for you. Khan has had considerably more exposure as a fighter than Garcia. Hell Angel Garcia might be more known than his son at this point. Danny has the personality of a wet brick and the marketability of one too. Khan may be the greatest KO victim of recent memory but he's had considerably bigger event fights than Garcia has even if it means Khan gets slept in those fights. Between the KO'd highlight reels and fighting Canelo on PPV it's no argument that Khan is a considerably bigger name than Garcia.
At least offer the same amount they offered khan, which is $5 mil. Danny's purses are around 1 mil but everyone knows about haymon's "2nd check" so it wouldn't surprise me if he's making around $ 3 mil already.
Since garcia is on the other side of the street they need to offer him an amount he can't refuse.
Offer him Khan money? Why? Yeah he beat Khan but Khan still has better name recognition and a bigger fanbase and has actually been on PPV as an opponent for the main event. Garcia would barely bring in the latino demographic, hell definitely not getting people to cancel their plans in PR to watch him fight. Khan at least brings a UK audience with him.
I like Pacquaio, yeah he's probably got the ego of a planet in private but he seems to generally mean well for his people but damn folks there need to let that man be.
Khan is a bigger name in the US? If Danny garcia and Khan each had a fight in New York who do you think would sell more tickets?
New York? Seriously? Of all of the places a fight can happen you pick the one place outside of Philadelphia that Garcia can sell out. We know Khan is a big name, a hell of a more recognizable fighter globally than Garcia. Asking about New York is like me asking you if Khan would outsell Garcia in the London. Khan is definitely a bigger name.
I don't see Canelo fighting beyond this contract with Dazn at a 2 fight yearly average that's 5 1/2 years pitting him around 33/34 when it's done. With his build of short and stocky and the eventual metabolism slowdown the rigors of making weight is going to be a massive pain. He's also too small to last long at 175 imo. That's not to say he won't do great things between now and then or to discredit him but by the time this contract expires I don't imagine that hunger being there for him.
Boxnation the channel is a household staple for me here in the states at least 30 minutes per day. Wish we had a 24/7 boxing channel like that stateside so I had to go the IPTV route to get access to it.
People and these popularity contests...who gives a flying fk honestly? :lame: The reality is very few in the boxing world thought Fury would beat Klitschko and the way he did it by pretty much neutering him for a full fight was big news. AJ is a young star with a notable olympic pedigree. Both men are considerably better known than most other heavyweights, all this deep analysis on who is more popular is pretty pointless. They are both big stars and a fight between them might go on to set records of all sorts that they might not achieve against anyone else separately.
A zebra can't change it's stripes and folks on here with their agendas can't even pretend to mask them. This is what boxing has come to. Questioning a guy who in his last four fights has fought three times out of the four against the two best challengers in his division and one 154lb fighter who had to fill in because "the guy stepping up" couldn't pass a drug test. What's he supposed to step up to? Planet Krypton and fight Fury, Wilder, and AJ? Let's stop acting like one guy can't be great while someone else is a great fighter too for fk sake its pathetic.
So fighters that trained for 15 round fights, didn't have pampered camps, and considerably harsher sparring sessions in preparations wouldn't beat guys that are literally gasping for breath within the first six rounds? It's not about rose colored glasses..it's about facts. Foreman at his prime would've beaten the dog ***** out of every name worthy heavy weight of the past 20 years and that's just Foreman within 6 rounds...not even mentioning the rest of that class.
Considering most street fights devolve into some sort of wrestling match after punches have landed....Boxer gets his punches off of course but if he doesn't drop the opponent things might get interesting for them. There are of course some exceptions on both sides and exceptional talent on both sides.
It's certainly suspect but I guess pay attention to any potential transformation. Until we see something with our eyes the association isn't a sign of guilt instantly.
Jokes aside, I didn't actually have THAT much of an issue with that. While people talk about it being a Maiii Masterclass, I'm sure several rounds flew by with only about 2 punches landed from either fighter. Compubox committed suicide.
Honestly dude, I have never seen a fight between "two stars" of the sport be that much of a landslide for one guy and I stupidly put money on Canelo based on a punchers chance and youth. Yeah, i've made dumb moves with money in my time..:burnout:
If folks go back far enough they'll realize at one point boxing champions were among the top three most popular people in this country. Hell in many cases people kept a picture at their business of whoever was the heavyweight champion at the time. Boxing has had a fascinating roller coaster ride of sagas, scandals, politics, and fanfare. Hell the King of England was a massive fan at one point. There also a bevy of SRR stories any real fan would enjoy. A lot of unsung heroes too from the late 1800'S and into the early 1920's.
Robert has to be coming back for money, his wife's medical costs are going to be around for the rest of his life. Sad because he's genuinely a lovely guy.
People always talking about these guys money. Since we are on the subject not a single one of these entertainers or athletes has the money that's listed as their net worth. Unless you have access to their accountants or their actual accounts not a one of these dudes has anywhere near that kind of money. We know what comes in we don't know who they pay, what they pay, who they split money with or even what debts they amass. I know this first hand from the msuic world, also Forbes is at best an estimate of earnings based on contracts and inflation. Hell I know a few rappers and singers who practically live off appearance fees and their credit card lines but most mofo's on here would assume they are paid as fk from first impressions.
I think its because of what we've seen in the past with other boxers.
Oh, I agree, hence the numerous times I've pointed out on here that people put far too much stake in what's publicly listed as net worth. It's grossly inaccurate and it's gotten entertainers robbed before.
He got baited in with the promise of a Floyd fight now Floyd is saying "Broner, Spence, etc" and is focused on fighting Khabib or someone else. Pacquaio got screwed on that one.
Congrats to them and it's not a bad idea because he's a scalp promoters are going to want for anyone they want to try to make a star out of. He finally got what he wanted out of K2 so it makes sense to keep that percentage he pays in-house. Ironically, it was him turning to trash talking that got him the cut he wanted in the Canelo negotiations instead of Tom's diplomatic act. He's over 35 in boxing so he's in the "let him fight whomever he wants at this point" part of my view on the sport. Get your paper son although i'd be happy with a third Canelo fight and then retirement. He's considerably slower than he was even two years ago even just looking at his workouts.
We can say this literally about just any fighter that goes pro. Let me ask you this.."Does Gervonta have the temperance to actually pull it off?"
In my opinion he does not, when you are getting in trouble as a barely known fighter and talking about shooting people over stupid ishhh, then get plucked out of your comfort zone, get a house bought for you to keep you out of trouble and you still can't let that life go...it screams AB 2.0 loudly.
He obviously didn't. And that was Loeffler saying he would and he is not with him anymore.— Dan Rafael (@danrafaelespn) January 3, 2019
I remember posting something similar to this early December when it was reported that he was taking meetings with promoters/networks without Loeffler. And Dan here just confirms those early reports.
Loeffler did very well promoting GGG on both coasts, but GGG is at that point of his career where he feels maybe he doesn't need a promoter. I mean Loeffler can still technically work with him on certain fights or all his fights, but GGG may feel like he wants to call all the shots before he retires.
Coppinger said he is waiting until the birth of his child to make his next move. So the waiting game continues.
He should move on, Loeffler spent entirely too much time kissing people's azzes and being diplomatic which cost this guy years chasing that WBC belt. Loeffler seemed to have been campaigning for the nicest guy in the sports while surrounded by shark promoters.
Way to blow this out of PROPORTION.
Does every race have dudes who only support boxers of their race? Absolutely? Is it stupid af? 100% yes. There are plenty or ricans, mexicans, black fight fans who only show up here to s**t on fighters who they don't identify with and only show up to support who they identify with. Nationalism is also stupid AF...consider both men who enter the ring are leaving chunks of their lives in the ring at a time and facing life changing punishment potentially every second of a fight. See my signature. I am a huge advocate for supporting all boxers of all walks of life, not just who looks like me when I stand in front of a mirror.
