I hate that stupid stuff like who you choose as your promoter can affect who you can and cant fight. I cant blame Pac Man for picking Top Rank I mean he chose a promoter thats been in the Game for decades and has a solid record of producing Champs.
Williams is his mandatory. He either fights him or loses his belt. I don't blame him for going after the money, but its just funny that he whined for months about how nobody would fight him and now he might drop his belt and not fight Williams. It would have done a lot for his reputation if he would've fought Williams instead of Clottey, then went after Cotto. Williams is more highly regarded than Clottey, so he would've fought the better opponent and got to keep his belt (assuming he won).
What does Margarito have to lose? Williams is right on his tail in the rankings. All he has to lose is his belt and he automatically loses that by not fighting Williams.
Well what Margarito losses if he did lose to Williams would be any slim chance he even had of possibly even getting a shot at Mayweather. Who knows a loss to Williams would probably have ended Margaritos rise, a Williams Margarito fight would just gain Margarito some more respect but a loss ends his hopes. Cotto is a great fighter and there is no probably no drop in talent from Williams to Cotto.
Is Margarito dodging Williams, Yes. For a good reason? Possibly.
Margarito on one hand either has a chance at a big time fight ($) (popularity) against Cotto who is not a bumb and is better then Williams, or give a shot to the 25 year old Williams (who will get a shot in the future anyways) and not make himself seem like hes ducking a boxer.
The truth is there is just more to gain from boxing Cotto and winning over a fight with Paul Williams.
Tough decision for Margarito.
If Margarito doesn't know that he's not getting his shot at Mayweather by now then we have to consider him too dumb to know what's best for himself. One of the three (Cotto, Williams, Margarito) MIGHT get a shot at Floyd after DLH and Mosley IF he doesn't retire.
A loss to anyone ends his rise and he's more likely to lose to Cotto IMO. But like I said, he's going after the money fight with Cotto, which I understand. It was just funny to me how hypocritical he and his fans are.
Well answer me this, dont you think a Margarito victory over Cotto does more for him in his career (money+respect) over a win over Williams? Plus there just arent many other Boxers out there who pick respect matches over money, its just the sad fact.
he could have fought williams in december
Margarito was looking past his November/December fight, Paul Williams probably wasnt anywhere near Margaritos radar and it was pretty obvious that Margarito was on his way towards a big fight against Cotto or hold hope out for a Mayweather fight that did not happen.
Paul Williams doesnt need to fight Margarito and Margarito does not need to fight Williams. Both guys are rising fast and you cant really blame Margarito for skipping Williams because he has much more to lose then Williams.
What's with all this stuff about this Kessler guy? Nobody cares about him.
Calzaghe is after Hopkins, he's fighting for legacy, not messing about with European idiots.
If hes fighting for Legacy why not push harder for Taylor. Sure fighting Hopkins would be huge for Calzaghe but even if he beats him people will still not give Calzaghe credit because Taylor beat Hopkins twice and boxing fans have short memories about how a good a fight was.
Fight of the year 2006 ?
Hmm I really thought the Pac-Man Morales Trilogy was the most exciting fights of 2005-06. Wink vs Taylor was good but at times boring, I thought 99% of all Heavyweight fights where garbage in 06, Cotto destroying Quintana was just brutal but fun to watch, Baldomir beating the Sh!t out of Gatti was entertaining but chasing around Zab Judah was kinda of a let down.
You know what I dont understand when it comes down to all these "underated" English Boxers is why the hell dont they just come to the USA and fight here. I mean Iam pretty sure Joe has made some big money boxing in the UK but would he have not had enough money earlier in his career to start fighting in the US?
I dont know what are the exact steps for becoming a professional fighter in the US but there are thousands of pro boxers so it cant be that hard.
Again I really dont know if there are problems with pro fighters from other countries comming to US to fight, but the Mexicans have been doing it for Decades.
Juan Manuel Marquez
That 04 fight was Amazing, Iam surprised Marquez survived the first round but he did. Did he dodge him I dont know, but you cant blame Pac Man for wanting to continue the battles he had with Morales, I just think Marquez was lost in the background when it came down to Morales.
guzman,marquez,barrera,barrios,valero
Hes beaten Barrera and the other guys are SOLID but do they even come close to what Eric Morales did for Pac Mans career, No. I think its safe and fair to say that Pac has gained the right to look for the big name fights. Granted to my Knowledge Pac Man has not dodged anybody and surely those names will come up on his radar but Pac is a prime time name now.
What is the definition of a young prospect? Someone who is under 24 and not a champ or someone who is in his 20's but hasnt lost a match? Call me crazy but I still view Miguel Cotto as a young prospect who still hasnt reached his peak but Iam pretty sure some would say that hes not a prospect.
A prospect that I think has a shot at making some sort of a splash in 07 would be Julio Cesar Chavez Jr who at 20 has great size and has the name that will get him some decent fights in the future.
Another guy I think of is Samuel Peter who might have a dominating 07.
The victory over baldomir did far more wonders for him solidifying himself as the man at 147 than a margarito fight would have, hence why people are saying what they are saying, its ok for Margarito to pull a supreme duck, but floyd cant do it for the EXACT same reasons, if not more siginifigant seeing as how Carlos was Ring champ?
Thats what people are complaining about, otherwise, its a smart move by margarito.
I got ya.
Ps. Liverpool is going to take this one ;-) .
fucking itv never showed us this quote. i had to download the showtime coverage to hear it.
I love Joe's showmanship, but I doubt he will be saying this stuff in the states, especially if its against Hop or Taylor.
Mayweather/Gatti more so than Mayweather/Baldomir. I thought Manny and Morales 2 was pretty bad, though I wouldn't say Manny vs. Barrera, cuz I don't think Manny was that well known then. Hell, I remember picking Barrera to win for that fight.
Forgot Manny Morales 3, Never ever in my wildest imagination would I have ever thought that Morales would "give up". Pac Man just was too much for him.
Was Quintana considered well known? Cause Cotto just BEAT the ever living daylights out of him, I mean OUCH I was in pain just watching that fight.
What Mayweather did to Gatti, Baldomir, etc could count.
He deserved it, the guy is great for Boxing and boxing fans hes a true fighter and hopefully when its all said and done he will go down as one of the greats of all time.
I'm so glad Peter whoped his ass, Tonney is a piece of trash who talks the talk but at his age doesnt walk the walk. Peter IMO won the first match and without a doubt dominated the second.
Peter over Masky by TKO in the third!!!
So who the heck does Pac fight?
Joan Guzman?
Rocky Juarez ? I think NOT.
The top 3 Lightweights are all fighting early this year.
David Diaz? Pac would probably want the better DIAZ.
Maybe Soto, I would watch.
I dont see anything special for Pac Man in April, maybe beat up on Zahir Raheem as his first match at 135.
Here is the biggest problem with the UFC, you dont get your moneys worth. Plain and simple, you put 2 great boxers of equal skill and they will just beat the heck out of eachother for 12 rounds, in the UFC a match usually ends in the first round or drags out for 4 rounds when both fighters are on the ground grappling.
Also I think the best UFC fighters at the longest take maybe 2-3 months off between fights, while some of the best boxers can take as long as they want. UFC keeps its stars constantly in the spotlight which is something Boxing doesnt do.
I cant remeber the last time i seen 2 boxers of equal skill level fight a good 12round fight....its a bad day when someone who has been watching boxing since he was 3 with his dad, now cant remeber last time he saw a fight and went WOW how the fuck are these to guys doin this
Not really 12 round fights but Ward vs Gatti where some pretty good fights.
WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO vs NICOLAY VALUEV :ugh:
Taylor vs Calzaghe either at 168 or 160 doesnt matter I just want to see it.
Cotto vs Mayweather
Paul Williams vs Oscar Delahoya at 154
Hatton vs Margarito thats if Hatton isnt too scared to go up in weight again.
Pac Man vs anyone of the following Juan Diaz, Jesus Chavez, Casamayor, Zahir Raheem, Barerra, Marquez.
I would also like to see Baldomir just fight again.
UFC just markets itself better, Boxing supposedly is strugling and yet you still hear stuff like great fights falling apart because of money issues and promoters sticking their noses in everything, that turns off FANS!
People want the best fighters fighting eachother all the time and UFC atleast attempts to make that happen everymonth.
I dont know if people can call this a "con" fight because of the way its being advertised is as two megastar boxers figthing in the same ring. If you guys remember the whole Baldomire hype it was being fed to us as a real life Rocky who will finaly beat Mayweather and everyone kept talking about how Baldomires size and stregnth would make him the toughest opponent for Mayweather, well that was a CON fight.
To this day I have not really heard any of the so called "experts" saying that Delahoya would win this match, let alone compete!
Offcourse all this will probably change in the next couple of months.
They are selling two names and to their credit they havent been selling the match if you know what I mean.
This was a totally different Peter, the kid trained hard and man he gave Toney a whooping! If Peter continues to get better and improve fight after fight like hes doing now, there is no one that is currently in the HW division that can stop him from UNIFYING!
Like I have allways said to alot of Peter haters, If Peter ever comes close to becoming a complete boxer he has a shot at going down as one of the greatest HW's of all time.
Whats up guys Iam new to the board but I'm a big time Boxing fan, that being said Kermit will be lucky to last 7 rounds against Sugar Shane. Shane has too much experience and is too much of a good boxer to lose to Kermit Cintron who was absolutley destroyed by Antonio Margarito in 04 who at the time was not a great "boxer".
If Shane stays away from Kermits power this will be an easy fight.
I want Oscar to win this match so bad, but the reality is I dont see it happening. Mayweather is just to quick and if he repeats what he did against Baldomire we are going to look at another UD, but then again the greatest thing about Boxing is how heart can at times overcome lack of talent, Delahoya has that heart and the man has never lost to even a mediocre fighter this guys pedigree is impressive and who knows we all might just be surprised at the end of that night.
Will a Mayweather win seal his place in with the all time greats? No.
