I've just realised that I've predicted he'd lose forever, now.
I said in 1992 that Dean Francis would conquer him at the ABA's, I was wrong (though almost right). Joe got the upper hand in a two-round shootout.
I said Karl Barwise would beat him because I saw what he could do when he had a training camp (and wasn't taking fights on a few hours notice) - against Mark Baker, and Joe had barely any rounds under his belt. I was left to hang my head in shame as Joe blew him away.
I said Bobbie Joe Edwards (Eubank's cousin) would beat him because he was a cruiserweight and would be too big and strong, Joe made him look pathetic.
I said Eubank would land a big right hand in the latter rounds because Calzaghe had never been in the trenches, and would go down and be taken out. I was wrong, Joe proved he was hard as nails that night.
I said Omar Sheika would be too much for him because his hand had gone in his previous three fights but Reid, Thornberry and Starie were very much counter-punchers and boxers (which allowed Joe to out-work them) while Sheika was a swarming slugger. Joe won an exciting war in exciting style - he wasn't lying when he said he hadn't seen a specialist about the hand before his previous two fights because he had a family to feed, but had done after the Starie fight and was now ready for war.
I said Mario Veit would beat him on points in Germany because Calzaghe was struggling with the weight so much and his head was all over the place with the messy divorce and custody battle, I was wrong. I now know Joe put it one of his most sizzling performances ever (having seen the fight taped from German TV).
I said Jeff Lacy would take him out in three rounds or less because I'd been informed that Joe couldn't spar or hit the bags because his hand was hurting, and expected him to fight like he usually does ie trying to take his opponents head off from the opening bell and not stopping until the fights over. I was wrong, Joe decided to 'box' for the only time I've ever seen apart from the Bobbie Joe Edwards fight and boxed Lacy's ears off.
I'm saying right now that I'd bet my house on Bernard Hopkins beating him convincingly, landing lead right hands and counter right hands alnight long because Joe is too square-on. Will Joe prove me wrong again? I hope so.
He can look great one fight then almost blo it the next. We seen it with Mitchell,Bika and many others, he just doesnt bring it every fight and i dont know why.
Bad in the Mitchell fight? Really?
Byron had just lost to Ottke despite winning 8 rounds with ease. He was supposedly pissed and a couple reports suggested he was annihilating guys at heavier than himself in sparing. One tabloid was reporting of Joe tremendous hand problems (this tabloid, though i can't remember which one, was the only one that mention Joe had problems before the bout) which it said would “eliminate all chances of Joe getting an unlikely KO victory” (Remember, Byron had a great chin amplified from one of the Siaca bouts) and yet he still made him look a fool after Byron knocked him down in the 2nd.
For me, that fight is a lot more impressive than both the Eubank and Lacy performances…
Calzaghe has that bad case of inconcistency. He can look great one fight then almost blo it the next. We seen it with Mitchell,Bika and many others, he just doesnt bring it every fight and i dont know why. But if he only gets up for competitionthen he should do fine cause from here on out hes probably only gonna be in big fights.
He went 121-9, but I know he had six losses on his record before he won his first ABA title (1985 Schoolboy's in Derby).
Thanks you know it all. Pretty good amatuer record as well as professional.
Was it 17. Do you know how many amatuer bouts he lost altogher though?

You know what I dont understand when it comes down to all these "underated" English Boxers is why the hell dont they just come to the USA and fight here. I mean Iam pretty sure Joe has made some big money boxing in the UK but would he have not had enough money earlier in his career to start fighting in the US?
I dont know what are the exact steps for becoming a professional fighter in the US but there are thousands of pro boxers so it cant be that hard.
Again I really dont know if there are problems with pro fighters from other countries comming to US to fight, but the Mexicans have been doing it for Decades.
I remember reading in the paper about Joe about future stars of the sport and a guy said remember the name Joe Calzaghe. This is before Joe was known or even a professional i think
I always thought Joe was good, but didnt know how good he was as an amatuer as well. Hasnt lost since 18 years old. Joe Calzaghe is better than Sugar Ray Robinson.
Not really......but when you learn a bit more about Joe you know he is no ordinary bloke. You only downside to Joe is that by this stage of his career he could of had a few extra known names on his CV. Names like Glencoffe, Tarver and perhaps Hopkins as well if he had of fought them earlier. But Joe got injured if im right.
fucking itv never showed us this quote. i had to download the showtime coverage to hear it.
I love Joe's showmanship, but I doubt he will be saying this stuff in the states, especially if its against Hop or Taylor.
You just knew the fight was over when Calzaghe said in his corner that Lacy's power was "Sh!t".

Either way the bolded is just the truth man. That's a horrible style matchup...and picking Nard to outbox Calzaghe isn't like picking Lacy to knock him out. In fact, Lacy's style is tailor made for Calzaghe and vice versa as is Calzaghe's to Hopkins.

Don't give this guy the satisfaction of a reply.
I'm not replying to him again anywhere.
Geoff
That's because you don't have the brains inside your head to do so. Why the fuck don't you get over yourself, and why the fuck don't you stop being a tit?
Go and fuck yourself, and go try get yourself some brains, you fucking fanny.
Why is this guy still allowed to post here?? He's the most blatant alt/troll ever. Fucking hell.
Geoff, I didn't know what alt. was until Kayjay explained it to me today, so why the hell would I go down that path?
All I know, Geoff, is that you talk a whole load of horseshit.
You're nothing more than a fucking pussy...
What's your point, dude?
Are you just admitting you were wrong on the last ten fights you predicted, or are you just specualting. Seems like a strange text from you. Next thing you'll be telling me Ricky Hatton doesn't dodge anyone credible, and Joe Calzaghe can beat anyone credible too...
