i dont understand how people who claim to love and respect technical boxing can truly rate Bernard Hopkins!!! the guy is seriously not a great practitioner of the sweet science. doesnt use the jab (the left that he just pokes out there with no intention of landing was not a jab), very rarely puts 2 punches together, punch-hold is not great boxing. posturing and posing is not great boxing.
De La Hoya was a far better technical boxer and thats the truth!
props to the original thread starter, this was actually a good thread until right on cue it got ruined by the usual Bscene bs. This forum has gone downhill so bad its disappointing.
And this guy had a point. This is Valid. :boxing:
to me this is the exact reason why climbing through the weights today is not as impressive as yesteryear! the 24 hour rehydration takes away all significance. for example miguel cotto reguarly gets in the ring close to 160, cotto is a middleweight that has to weigh 147 for approximately 3secs! this is the same for most boxers nowadays. people were going nuts over the fact that bernard hopkins moved to lightheavy totally disregarding the fact that bernard is a natural lightheavy!!
i have actually been thinking about this for a while and on average the size of boxers have increased by 2 divisions because of the 24hour rehydration rule. boxers that should be fighting at welter are fighting at lightweight (sometimes even supefeather).
For real **** Tim Bradley!!! if these kinda fighters are "the future of boxing" i pray for boxings future!!!
i dont know if hes watching too much 24/7 and adopting the mayweather attitude, but mayweather has been a pro a LONG time and coming up the ranks proved himself. same with Pac, Cotto! Tim Bradley has done nothing of note and doesnt seem to keen to handle the questions being asked of him in his own division.
realistically i dont think it would happen cause as we know Arum has plans to milk the golden cow BUT if he did set it as a goal he could unify the division! and i have no doubt whatsoever that Cotto could outbox Angulo for 12 rounds!
no big names are calling him out either. They arent really giving him a chance to prove him self.
thats the point i was making. he could easily get fights made with the other 154 champs outside of Cotto. Unify the titles you then think Miguel wouldnt wanna fight him for ALL the marbles? or if Pac wants that 8th title hes gotta come knocking on his door!
but that is the same as the pro game.
even with old scoring system bad decisions were still about! lets not forget the reason the scoring system changed in the 1st place
I have to give Ali the nod in this 1 due to the level of competition he faced! i think along with his actual chin his mental fortitude is what really told him apart from the other greats! Ali had indomitable will.
Ali, down several times in his career against 185lb fighters who were not anything special. He now has parkisons and has to wear a diper.
Vitaly, never down even once, will be fully functional when he is Ali's age.
Any questions as to who had the better chin?
the rest of the post is offensive but on to this Vitaly has fought and BEAT how many hall of famers?
i think roy will badly beat bhop.. style matchup. roy is a really bad matchup for bhop. roy knows bhops style like the back of his hand, its by the book and predictable
i think casual fans pick bhop, real students of the game know roy has an advantage. it might be close.. but in no way is bhop going to get an easy win.
roy's gonna pull a PBF vs JMM
really.. is hopkins going to outjab roy?? is hopkins going to be landing counter rights? is hopkins going to be outhooking captain hook? is hopkins power going to scare jones? is jones' power going to make hopkins gunshy? can roy easily **** with hopkins in ways hopkins has never seen since their first fight?
This exactly wot im sayin, Bernard DOES NOT beat roy at ANY stage! the styles just do not allow for it.
