People have to understand that most boxers are 100% lean and that 2 or 3 lbs make a huge difference when you are talking muscle mass.
Just all the work for those extra lbs can push you to been overtrained.
For regular people a few lbs is a meal, for a boxer is weeks of more training and that's What Roach refers to "taking something out of them".
It makes a huge difference and it changes a boxers training rutine.
So please, don't under play a few lbs. It has made Pacquiao who He is today.
If you haven't worked training any one you might not know this facts.
The issue is not the weight but the Body Fat %. For someone with 6% BF they will die trying to lose a few non water lb's. But if someone is 8% BF that weight will be easier to lose. It doesnt matter if they fought lower or higher it depends how your weight is orginized. iirc you cant be below 4% BF without dying and athletes are 6-13% BF.
Thats why for pacq putting on 5 lb sounds little to you guys but he needs to maintain his bodyfat % while gaining those 5 lb while eating 7000 cals a day while burning thousands of cals a day. Thats why they pay lots of cash for nutritionists instead guessing it. I want them to start doing bf% at weigh-ins so we see whos actually is in better shape and which weight class they belong at.
Someone who knows their sh!t finally..Manny didn't gain much to fight Cotto tho..he was already in the low 150's..so it was more maintainace and a bit of muscle mass added..
so who are these people that pacquiao fought that had to lose "a few extra pounds?"
Cotto lost 1 pound.
Who else? Oscar? Blame Oscar for that one it was his idea to fight at 147.
So Cotto walks around at 146??
People around here can't be that fukkin stupid!..
Cotto's walk around weight is in the high 150's low 160's and works damn hard to get to 147lbs and at that point he's dehydrated and weak..that's why 98% of boxers rehydrate up to 15lbs over night..
So 2 extra pounds won't necessarily mean water weight or fat..he's lean and dehydrated by 147 as it is..so now it's muscle mass which can make anyone weak..fat fukks around here won't know the difference tho..
Pacquiao walks around at 150..so all he had to do was maintain and gain muscle mass to hang with the big boys..not as hard as training, dehydrating and losing mass..
So to the "it's only 1lb" warriors hit the gym lose 30lbs and get to about 6% bodyfat then try to lose 2 more lbs in a span of 8 weeks..til you do that STFU actin like it's as easy as skipping a dinner or 2 out of the week..
props to the original thread starter, this was actually a good thread until right on cue it got ruined by the usual Bscene bs. This forum has gone downhill so bad its disappointing.
Thank you Sir. I enjoyed discussing this issue with some of you guys.
Thx
Those that think that a few lbs don't make a difference have never box or worked with any boxers.
Their oppinions have not real base if they haven't experience training.
Yes a boxer has a few months to loose the weight, but a boxer has also pushed his body to the lesser weight possible from the start.
I stand firm saying that a few lbs can make a huge difference in a fight.

why are you assuming that Cotto would have came in at the same weight he did against Clottey?
why you assuming he wouldnt come in at the same weight he did against Clottey?
stop saying that losing a few lbs would make a boxer weak or weight drained. they have 3 months to lose those "few lbs". its not like Manny said to Cotto that he had to lose 1 lb in a 2 days notice.
He weighed 146 in his previous bout so no 146-145=1 smart guy.
Cotto weighed 146 his previous fight.
146-145 = 1
why are you assuming that Cotto would have came in at the same weight he did against Clottey?
Manny was weight drained against JMM. did he make any excuses or his fans? his walking weight was around 144-146 lbs when he was fighting in a superfeatherweight. but Manny cut those pounds in a few months and didnt make any excuses. those haters should do the same. dont make any excuses. they have 2-4 months to prepare for the fight. there shouldnt be any excuses.
This showed to us how limited your boxing knowledge and how dumb flomo you are. Did you know that 99% of the boxers they are overweight on their current division when they have no schedule fight? Did you also know that they have a few months (1 year to 2 months) to cut those extra lbs safely? Did you know Pac in Oscar fight has only 1 fight at lightweight (135) moved up at 147 just to fight Oscar. Now you flomo dumb think it was not fair for Oscar and Pac should fought Oscar at 154 or at 160, right? Beside did you know it was Oscar has all the say in that fight? Did you know also that Oscar was already at 145 one month before the fight? Did you know that Pac after he fought Oscar at 147 he moved down to one 140 and fought Hatton at his best weight? I think you should make also a thread about how Hatton made Pac weight drained himself to fight him in his best weight right? You should make a thread how your queen coward asked JMM to move 2 divisions above his best weight and fought Floyd in his best weight but still the frucker coward cheated JMM at the scale! In Cotto fight, did you know that he has 4-5 months to lose those extra 1 lbs (his fight with Clottey he weighed in 146)? Did you know also Cotto said from his own mouth he usually weighed in this weight range and he did not made any excuses about it? In Margarito fight, did you know that he made his name at 147 and by adding another 4 lbs in his fight with Pac at 151 will basically weight drain him, right? You an idiot isn't it?
Don't listen to this flomos. They just upset their hero shivering upon hearing Pacs name.:booty:

The thing is that all of this is fine in theory but it doesn't mean you generalize that every single fighter that fought at a catchweight with Pac was weight drained. For all you know those fighters could have made the weight easily but the truth of the matter that looking at pictures and assuming from those pictures that the fighter was weight drained is just outright fuking stupidity. So my question isnt you arn't very smart are you because I know you arn't smart whatsoever when you look at a fuking photograph and assume that he was weight drained. never mind that he was eating like fuking horse in the weeks leadin up to the fight and there is video evidence to prove it. And if he did over train who's fault was that actually?
i repeat.. not very smart.
I said nothing about photos. I was talking about footage, and how cottos body differed from previous bouts. As i said, he looked in better shape than ever before. This 'isn't' a complement under these circumstances - it means his body didn't recover the same overnight as it normally would have in other bouts which is usually a sign of overtraining and would raise questions. I'm not saying he or anyone else was overtrained, I'm just stating the obvious and it's the reason people can make such claims.
Also...Where did food come into this conversation, too?
Food and overtraining have absolutely nothing in common and trainng at that level, in order to maintain strength you HAVE to eat. Eating isn't a cause of weight. anyone here who knows a thing of two about maintaining or cutting weight knows food is one of the biggest parts and you hardly skip a meal if you want to recover properly. Dieting is another word for 'eating, specifically'.
I knew we could count with your knowledge in boxing contributing to the discussion that by the way, is not about Cotto, but yes your hero has contribute to the problem.

How do you know he ate like that everday the video dose not show what he eat everday leading up to the fight.
Pistol, I don't think Cotto was eating like that everyday. I think they made that special meal for the 24/7. But I disagree with the photo statement.
You can tell a lot looking at photos because they don't lie.
I like to compare weigh ins to know when a boxer has max his time on a weight class.
A boxer who is over trained looks over trained, you just have to know what to look for.
Cotto looked overtrained for the Pacquiao fight and that is MY oppinion, which doesn't have to agree with yours. We don't have to agree in every view.
Hydrating becomes more difficult if you have overtrained, because your body then requires more time to completely recuperate. So a 24 hour period doesn't say much.
You aren't very smart are you?
I shed weight all the time currently to fight, and use to religiously to wrestle. Losing weight isn't rough because fighters are lean (rare cases) losing weight is tough because most fighters have a lot of weight to lose to make weight, and extra poundage to lose then requires an even harder camp which can influence/cause one to over train.
Many welterweights walk around in between 160-175. That's 20 to 30 potential pounds they are losing and only about 10 of which is water. Add in a few extra pounds to lose via catchweight and you have a pretty tough camp, because it's not just cutting weight, but cutting weight effectively. Can't do it too fast, there's a science to cutting so that the fighter stays strong.. and extra lbs to lose can potentially "rush" the cutting process.
As for cotto re hydrating; against pacman he physically looked better than I've ever seen him. He looked shredded, which is unusual for him on fight night. Cotto usually carries water in his mid section on fight night and can look noticeably heaviar in his waist with less definition in his mid than the night before during weigh in. This didn't happen for pacman. He looked as lean during the fight as he did at the weigh in - and it can definitely raise questions.

Pistol, you want to continue hitting the same nail and I'm trying to make this thread about boxing and training. Not about Cotto.
I do get reports of Cotto's camp and his training Sir from reliable sources on both Bairoa Caguas and Kissimee FL.
But that's not the point I'm discussing. Can you tone it down just a bit.
If you have something to contribute to the thread, great.
I already have contributed to this thread by pointing that all your thoeries are entirely based on taking a giant fuking guess.
Gentlemen, one at the time please. Cotto was overtraining by over working 6 days of the week. Emmanuel drop that sht as soon as He stepped in so yes, He was a little over trained for the Clottey fight too. It doesn't take a genius or been Cotto shadow to see that.
But less not just talk about Cotto becuase this thread is not just about him. We are talking boxing and yes, I have worked with a few boxers in my time.
I'm just not talking sht here because I have a keyboard.
I know how much a boxer stuggles to make weight and know how much a few lbs can change his game.
like i said dont wast your time with nuthuggers this is boxingscene just come here for laughs
Once again how the fuk would you know? I can make things up off the top of my head and pretend like I know what the fuk im talking about too.
