In my honest opinion, wins by either Mayweather or JMM will not do much for boxing...As mentioned in earlier posts, JMM is getting up there in age...If he wins, the obvious next move would be him calling out PAC (whether Pac wins or not...) Because let's be honest, a fight with Cotto would just be too much to ask a guy at that stage of his career...If Mayweather wins, he will price himself out of a match with PAC (if Pac wins) and get chased by Sugar Shane (who is just completely embarrassing himself and ruining his legacy with his desperateness to land that one last payday...although I don't blame him after Jin completely ruined him financially...) After these two fights, and when these fighters retire, there is really no one left in boxing that can bring together the fans...Mayweather brings every1 together for sheer hope that he will lose (the ultimate 'bad guy' right now in the sport) or fans of the sweet science of a defensive minded guru....Marquez brings Mexico because he is the last Mexican hope for now until JCC Jr. fights somone of substance or worth or just by name recognition (but papa JCC won't put him in to any war, don't blame him, that's a father protecting his most prized commodity)...Pac brings the Philippines & has an actual following in Mexico after his wins over their legends and the United States (thanks to Nike propaganda & a growing Filipino community on the West Coast) and Cotto brings all of Puerto Rico behind him...there are no other draws in the sport left when these guys exit... Sad to say that when these four exit, no one can step in...so really, a win by mayweather or marquez only extends the inevitable that boxing may start to lose the luster that it has right now...I think this will be Mayweather's last fight...Pac has 2 megafights & 1 farewell fight...Marquez retires if he loses to Mayweather or has 1 more megafight (with Pac) if he wins...Cotto retires if he loses and sustains a beating or if he wins has 1 more megafight with Mosley or a farewell fight in PR... All I know is I'm looking forward to Mayweather and JMM...really would love to see a fighter force Mayweather to go to war, and I think JMM could possibly do that...For God sake, JMM drinks piss... Unfortunately, I don't see any 'big draws' or 'future ATGs' in the horizon...Golden Boy Promotions was counting on Victor Ortiz...Yeah, we know what happened there...Juan Manuel Lopez is not like his fellow countrymen, Miguel Cotto, who is willing to take risks and fight the best...Although, Juan Manuel is considered more charismatic...Chad Dawson is unfortunately in a very weak light heavyweight era, so there is no way for him to prove his worth or show his skill set against mediocre fighters (yes, there is Cloud, but he hasn't been tested in deep waters as of the moment, and let's be honest, Clinton Woods, was not a test)...Kelly Pavlik got dismantled by BHop....And in all honesty, I don't see why there is so much fuss about Nonito Donaire...Yes, he put Vic to sleep, but that is one win...and after his most recent performance, I don't see anything special except that since he is a Filipino, the Philippines is trying to find that next great hope (yep, Viloria, Z Gorres, & Banal all failed to live up to the unreachable heights of the Pacman, and don't get me started on Boom Boom Bautista...)...Then you have this SMW tourney...Come on, none of these guys are a big draw...Dirrell, Taylor, Froch, Abraham, etc...No superstar to be found...Ivan Calderon is stuck in the lower weight classes, which makes Pacman so special...dude has titles in six weight classes starting in the lower classes up to jr. welterweight, 4 lineal titles, but as usual, I digress! Andre Berto shows signs of greatness, but has yet to show that consistent heart of a warrior (i.e. watch his 'clinch' fest with Urango)...Paul Williams is a freak of nature in regards to his punch output, size, etc...but just isn't a big draw to the fans...that may be due to fighters ducking him, so maybe it's not his fault directly... It's unfortunate that when Cotto, Pac, Marquez, Mayweather, & you can even include Mosley into this mix, that the future is not looking too bright in regards to that one superstar that can carry boxing for the next generation...Don't get me wrong...I hope the 'next big thing' will come along, but I just don't see that happening...But even so, I hope there will be some memorable wars that will take place!

I think it's being bullied and disrespected by mayweather that's the problem. This is EXACTLY right! What is PBF's next set of demands...Pac will be DQ'd for throwing straight lefts, DQ'd for throwing right hooks, DQ'd for throwing 4 or more punch combinations, AND the "kicker", during the "stare-down" before the bell for the first round, the ringside physician will need to take a blood sample from Pac & make him piss into a cup for drug testing purposes? The claims made by Floyd Sr. have tarnished what is an "All-Time Great" career. I still do not understand why Floyd Sr. has not been legally reprimanded (i.e. libel for public defamation in the press) for these public statements without any solid proof. These demands should be viewed by the "purists" of the sport as a way for PBF to yet again avoid another "game" fighter that is hitting his PRIME and PBF's desire to remain undefeated so as to make a claim that he should be considered GOAT...But just look at this resume... My feelings of why suddenly PBF chose to get the services of GBP...He wants to get an advantage with the judges who are known to be GBP "scape-goats" (i.e. Caiz, Sr. & Co.) during fight night...He believes that he can take Pac the distance and wants the GBP influence on this side...As he said after the DLH fight, that the reason why DLH got a scorecard go his way, is because of GBP's influence...and I thought PBF is his own promoter/his own boss?! @firstborn I 100% totally agree with your suggestion of Pac-Bradley & Mosley-Mayweather...But the reason I didn't think of the feasibility of these fights are the simple fact that PBF wants to avoid Mosley like the plague & I would rather see Pac fight a true welterweight than a Jr. Welterweight in Tim Bradley moving up in weight to fight Pac. BUT as I mentioned earlier, and THE STONE ROSES has pointed out, Cotto's father has passed away (RIP), so I don't see this ever being feasible at the moment.

So it's OK for PAC to fight JMM but not PBF...Wasn't JMM #2 P4P... Floyd agreed to everything PAC's team wanted and Pac's Team agreed to nothing...But PBF ducked? @Modobo3 It was OK for Pac to fight JMM at Super Featherweight, simply because BOTH men were at their "natural weight" at that point in time. Pac nor JMM were asking the other fighter to move up or down in weight to take the fight. It was a legitimate prime vs. prime LW fight (although many would disagree and say that Pac is now just hitting his prime, which is scary to say the least). Also, a key point that you failed to realize was that PBF deliberately IGNORED the catchweight that was agreed upon for his fight with JMM and simply paid a measly $600k for the fight to take place. It is rumored that he even came in at 160lbs that night! If you go by the same reasoning that PBF has the right to fight the #2 P4P fighter in the world just as much as Pac does...Well how would you argue then if Ivan Calderon was the #2 P4P fighter or any other "lower" weight class fighter was #2 P4P...So PBF has the right to call them out too? PBF MUST ATLEAST FACE A TRUE WELTERWEIGHT! This era produced a welterweight division to remember (Mosley, Cotto-before Margarito fight, Margarito-before the "loaded gloves", P Williams-before his move to higher weight classes). To even suggest that PBF did not duck Pac is PREPOSTEROUS! PBF ducked because according to many sources his advisors & GBP wanted him to sign the contract for the fight and he refused to sign...What about that is not ducking?

In all honesty, why a Cotto fight would be "feasible" at this point is the sad fact that Cotto, in PBF's eyes (and a majority of boxing analysts, purists, etc.) is "damaged goods" after Margarito committed boxing's MORTAL SIN of using loaded gloves and Pac's 11 and 1/2 rounds of demolition. I did not factor in the death of Cotto's father (RIP).... BUT of all the TRUE WELTERWEIGHTs, PBF would only be willing to step in the ring with Cotto... These fights surely come to mind as 'bore-fests' in my opinion simply because of the hype involved for the 'build-up' and the complete let-down it was to watch the fight... Hopkins-Calzaghe (You could even see Stallone in the background getting pissed with all the clinching going on...) DLH-Mayweather, Hatton-Mayweather (With all the hype & trash-talking by "Money" May, these were snooze fests...but what can we expect from a defensive minded genius...even though "Money" May is a bore to watch, you have to respect the wins...although his 'ducking' will surely hurt his ATG status...)

Floyd is in a win-win situation because: 1.) Assuming he beats Marquez...If Cotto beats Pac, then Floyd will get a 'war-torn' fighter who had to endure fights with Margarito (possibly 'plastered'), Clottey (yes, he took punishment in this fight...), and Pac...If Pac beats Cotto, I still believe that this will be such a 'hellacious' fight, that neither man will be the same... 2.) But most importantly, Floyd got a 'war-torn' Marquez who has gone through some truly 'hellacious' fights leading up to this fight...Juan Diaz (watch the first two rounds of this fight, no fan, I mean even fans of Floyd would have to admit that there was more action in these two rounds between JMM & Diaz than in the entire career of PBF) - the fight between PBF & Corrales was an anomaly, Casamayor (not too 'hellacious', but a really 'cagey' type veteran), & two wars with Pac that in my opinion Pac won the first & JMM won the second...And the fact that we all know Marquez is moving up essentially two weight classes.... It's sad that Castillo is still fighting. He'll probably lose. @rj_ct I absolutely agree with you. JLC's legacy was defined with his war with Corrales even in a losing effort. It will always be mentioned as one of the greatest fights of all-time. JLC's first fight with Mayweather. Many ringside analysts even had JLC winning that fight. Although JLC was always in the shadow of el Terible & Barrera, he accepted his spot in Mexican boxing lure. He just wanted to be JLC. Although I have to admit, it will be great to see JLC back in the ring, BUT going up against Gomez, who only has a name because of a reality boxing show, it is quite sad to see. Especially if Gomez gets a win over JLC. It was even worse when Gomez got the win over Gatti (RIP Arturo Gatti). @BigBoxingFan I agree with you that PBF is a highly skilled prizefighter, and that he MAY not be scared of any fighter out there...BUT I believe that his biggest fear is to lose his status as an undefeated fighter...Most boxing purists would greatly appreciate PBF's knowledge / IQ of the sweet science and his defensive skills are a sight to behold. BUT I believe that deep down inside, he knows that once he gets that first loss (if ever...), his draw power to the boxing public will plummet tremendously! In all honesty, a majority of fans tune in to his fights and buy the PPV simply in hope that PBF will get that first loss & be humbled. It's a sad, but true fact...He plays the 'bad guy' role perfectly...BUT take away that 39-0 record & make it 39-1, PBF loses his leverage on claiming he is a major draw in the sport...Why? Because once he gets that loss, people (the general viewing audience) won't tune into his fights because people want to see action...Not a defensive specialist. But also, I believe that having a tarnished record could elevate PBF to fight anyone at anytime, without having to cherish an undefeated record... Specifically, PBF included in the top 5 along with Paul Williams & Antonio Margarito. Why? Well I already went into a discussion of why PBF does not deserve to be ranked...As for Paul Williams, it's the same issue. He hasn't fought in the welterweight division since his win over Carlos Quintana in 2008. And as for Margarito, as another poster has mentioned, he would be included with all the "bottom-feeders" of the division and have to move his way up the ladder, and the fact of the matter is does Margarito even have a license to fight as of the moment? Another key issue is the simple fact that he has been inactive since his "plastering" incident, I have a feeling that he may have to come back at light middleweight unless he has been training and such...But I stand firm that the WW division rankings should be: 1. Shane Mosley (Lineal WW Champ) 2. Manny Pacquiao 3. Andre Berto 4. Miguel Cotto 5. Joshua Clottey Some may say that Clottey deserves to be ranked above Cotto after the controversial decision at Madison Square Garden, BUT I beg to differ simply because a Win is a Win! But these rankings will drastically change since Berto has pulled out against Mosley, Cotto is moving up in weight to challenge Yuri Foreman at Light Middleweight, & now PBF will hopefully (and I stress the word, hopefully!) put his undefeated record on the line against SSM, along with the pending result of Pac-Clottey.
