I think it's a great fight for both of them at this point of their careers.
Gomez has a name but is pretty limited as far as talent goes, and this could be his last hurrah to get some momentum for himself and get lifted to more credible slots on cards. That beatdown he took against Cotto let him know that he needs to be more serious if he wants to compete at the elite level.
Castillo on the other hand has seen much better days, but has won four in a row(against cans) and seems more motivated then he's been in a long time. Sparring with Pacquiao for the Cotto fight surely made him realize that he misses the spotlight. A win over a C+ fighter on a heavily promoted card can elevate him mentally over that embarrassing loss he had against Hatton and potentially land him a decent payday against one of the mid-tier welters like Quintana or Cintron.
Discuss.
Yea I hated seeing Gatti get punished by Gomez. But Gatti was so past it at that point anyway. Gomez might get a reputation at retiring guys if he KO's Castillo. I can't imagine Castillo continuing to fight if he gets destroyed by Alfonso 'The Contender = My Career' Gomez.
@ADozenArrows
LOL! Alfonso 'The Contender = My Career' Gomez! It pained me to see Gatti, a legendary WARRIOR, get battered by a reality tv boxer of all things! But in regards to getting a reputation of retiring guys, I wouldn't even consider comparing it to the way Pacquiao retired Morales, Barrera (we shouldn't even consider his fights at lightweight after the Pac fight or the Khan fight), and DeLaHoya...Gomez is the lucky recipient of fighters who unfortunately couldn't hang up the gloves and had that "itch" to get back into the ring, back into the spotlight...Nothing more, nothing less...
But as I mentioned earlier, if JLC does fight Gomez.....WAR JLC! :boxing:

damn...i aint heard anything about Castillo in ageees....guys like been inactive for a while now
Interesting fight, loser will fall off the face of the Boxing map completely. :D
Gomez is young and has a pretty good fan base. Win or lose he is gonna be back.
Castillo on the other hand is absolutely ancient in boxing years. Hes 36 years old, 20 years as a pro, 70 fights deep, 9 losses and 6 by stoppage. A few years ago when he got a gift against Ngoujdo and then got embarrassed by Hatton I was pretty sure he was done. After than he dropped a wide decision to Lujan. Castillo is definitely on the slide and has been for some time.

I absolutely agree with you. JLC's legacy was defined with his war with Corrales even in a losing effort. It will always be mentioned as one of the greatest fights of all-time. JLC's first fight with Mayweather. Many ringside analysts even had JLC winning that fight. Although JLC was always in the shadow of el Terible & Barrera, he accepted his spot in Mexican boxing lure. He just wanted to be JLC.
Although I have to admit, it will be great to see JLC back in the ring, BUT going up against Gomez, who only has a name because of a reality boxing show, it is quite sad to see. Especially if Gomez gets a win over JLC. It was even worse when Gomez got the win over Gatti (RIP Arturo Gatti). But as usual, the draw of fighting in front of, I assume, a packed house the temptation to get back into the ring would be so high for a warrior like JLC.
Anyways...WAR JLC! :boxing:

It's sad that Castillo is still fighting. He'll probably lose.
