the difference between the two was that dillian had about 20 fights experience in muay thai when this fight happened, loads of ring time compared to a novice who'd had 2/3 amatuer bouts. Of course dillian won, it doesnt really say anything much about anything. Joshua's got a fantastic amatuer pedigree and has sparred with some of the top heavyweights in the world...dillian has literally no chance and anyone saying anything else is just buying into the hype to sell the PPV
I doubt shane would want that to be honest.
I dont think floyd will fight at welter again if he cant get pacquiao. He'll move up to 54 and outbox a paper champion (possibly the winner of cotto/foreman) or he'll go to 160 and box Martinez.
Lol mayweather would make tony look like a fool. No ones really talking about how dreadful plasterito looked the other day against a nobody. He looked tired and old. I dont think he'll ever fight at the top level again so he should stop talking about those guys as if hes still amongst them
boooooooooorrrrrrriiiinnnnnng
Who wants to watch that wimpy, zero knockout record twat around the ring for twelve rounds after taling all sorts of shit about whos arse hes going to kick? Hes a consistant let down and far too dull to watch to be adored by fans
Well the scene is set perfectly for haye to revive the heavyweight division, and if he does it he'll be remembered in much fonder terms than anyone else. I think he probably will as well. By the time hayes fought chagaev vitali will have most probably picked up an injury and retired, and I've always maintained that haye would probably beat wlad on the right night
Froch has a fair to middling chance of winning the super six, but if he doesnt hes going to fade into retirement pretty quickly i think, i doubt he'll have much left if he gets a beating from kessler or Abraham
Khan? I think the boys headed for decent things, but if he keeps moving up in weight hes going to have problems. Hes still not taken world class punches at light welter. When they stick him in with bradley or Urango, or Maidana for that matter, i'll voice an opinion. I dont really buy into the whole 'he got knocked out, therefore hes chinny' theory (look at manny pacquiao, KO'd twice, is he chinny?), but its hard to say anything about him until we've seen him in a real fight with a real world class fighter.
I pick david haye. Heavyweights are always considered greater for their acheivements than lighter weights, and Hayes got a very decent chance as the divisions piss poor at the moment. That, added to the charisma and star quality of the man, and you've got someone who will be remembered as great even when hes competing with mediocrity most of the time
i cant see him fighting anyone but the winner of floyd/shane if im honest. I dont think collecting belts at WW holds any real appeal for Arum et al, it wont add anything to pacs name in terms of finances or fame. The best move if mayweather wins but the fight cant be made would be to go up a weight and pick on the worst champion they can find at light middle, or maybe box cintron or someone for a vacant belt. I highly doubt he'll box margarito, and marquez is out of the question after what floyd did to him
he did open his eyes...but even in slow mo it's for like a fraction of a second
and it's him looking up at arthur
And what does that mean? the effects of blunt trauma on the human brain isnt my strong point, but im sure a millisecond delayed reaction is not unheard of
i dont see shane bullying floyd ala the hatton + castillo model, hes going to be more intelligent than that, and at 38 he will need to be more economical if hes going to last the distance. Hes probably best trying to draw floyd into a fight, rather than trap him on the ropes. Its too much work to get floyd to that position, keeping him there would be too much hard work for old mosely i feel.
cant call margarito shot on the basis of one fight. His head probably wasnt in it since he'd just been caught cheating, so it wouldnt have been his best performance anyway, and who knows if his hands were loaded for cotto and previous fights? got to wait for his next few fights to have any idea, but it will take a lot for a top level fighter to be interested in him after the cheating, inactivity and the fact that he was soundly beaten in his last fight.
I do think cotto is done as a top level fighter, hes tried 3 times (including mosely, where i think he was soundly beaten) to make the jump to elite level and failed each time. Hes still a great fighter, and hes a tough nights work for anyone, i just dont think he'll ever be 'great'. He'll never live up to his promise of being a threat to floyd, he'll never be an undisputed champion at any weight.
As for Hatton. . .i think hes damaged beyond repair, and i think he knows it. I dont know whether it was the pac loss or the years of abuse hes given himself, but somethings not right, and his indecision over his retirement leads me to beleive that hes well aware theres a problem. I doubt he'll box again.
Well excluding khan, the best at 140 are Alexander, Bradley, Paulie and Maidana. One of those has a loss against Kotelnik, Kotelnik never looked in the fight against Khan. Not for a single second. I think that plus the Salita blast out (not that salitas such a great fighter, but the manner of the victory makes it mean something) puts khan at world level. Beating paulies ass will seal it
Definitely a good shout.
Hes 23, hes only been boxing a few years. Yes hes just won an olympics but so what?
Hes currently with a fantastic group of trainers and fighters who can teach him a lot. Hes getting well paid and theres so much he can do in amateur still. WSB, AIBA pros and the amateur world championships all there for the taking. Why would he rush to turn pro?

Zambidis is good, great to watch, wicked left hook but he normally loses against the top level guys like jwp, baukaw etc (lost his first fight of the max finals 06 i think it was buakaw)
hmm, how is it that week on week u turn on sky sports on a friday and see a full house, no matter where in the country they are? fuck that of course the uk has boxing fans, its just mathematics, u have to sell a certain number of ppv's to make up for the loss in advertising revenue and they cant guarantee that when neither headlining fighter is british. ask ur average joe public whos gonna win hatton castillo, if they know what the fuck ur talking about they'll say hatton. Ask them who'll win Mayweather/ODh they wouldnt be that bothered, unless u stumble upon a massive boxing fan or a hispanic
i dont think i've ever heard an mma fighter call out a boxer, i think someone is talking out their ass. Its such a pointless arguement as well, its like saying oh a baseball player could beat a cricket player in a baseball match, its just nonsense.
Saying one sport is better than the other is a bit dumb as well really, they are not comparable, boxing is over 100 years old as a pro sport and mma has been around about 20 years maybe less. the fact that the two are even mentioned in the same breath proves how fast mma is growing. It seems like every other week now frank warren makes comment on the ufc (which he thinks stands for ultimate fight club, which shows his level of ignorance perfectly) in his news of the world column. It wouldnt surprise me if the likes of warren, king, arum etc were quite scared of the way mma is growing (thus the attempted 8 man tournament in h/w boxing that never happened).
Saying that a boxer could beat an mma fighter is a bit of an odd statement as well. If ur saying ur average 4-round pro could beat any mma fighter this is just complete fallacy and anyone saying that has obviously never watched proper mma and needs to open themselves up to mma rather than burying their heads in the sand and saying 'boxing is the greatest sport ever'
so do u think manfredo could beat lacy? i cant imagine anyone saying that before joe dismantled him, so how can u say joe will be beaten by manfredo who is just a celebrity boxer with no names on his record at all (except pemberton, but no one could argue he is calzaghes class)
i would say the only way u could know if he was 'the real deal' or not would be for him to compete in mma events, but since they werent invented when he passed there is no way he can be considered 'the greatest martial artist'. i mean, he never competed in any kind of combat sport, be it kickboxing, muay thai, boxing or whatever, so to say he is the greatest would be in line with saying a guy was the greatest boxer p4p when u've only seen him hit the heavy bag, he might have looked the real mcoy when he had complaint actors in front of him, but i would debate the effectiveness of his martial art JKD since NONE of the top mma guys use it. if it was so fantastic why dont the likes of ufc, pride or shooto fighters use it?
Audely Harrisson!
what did berto do to impress u guys? i saw him on the jermaine taylor undercard (first i've seen of him to be honest) but wasnt overly impressed.
I dont think we will see a rematch regardless of the outcome-especially if Oscar wins.
Reason being is this Oscar chance, as an aging fighter out of his prime he is not going to improve upon his performance Saturday night and if he manages to eek out a victory then it can only get worse for the Golden Boy in a rematch.
And iof Oscar loses-he is not going to come up with some gameplan in a return bout that befuddles the prime Floyd....Oscar is REALLY in this for legacy and if he cant beat a fighter then I cant see him wanting to do it again.
Saturday night is essentially single elimination in my mind.
I pretty much agree with that, If oscar doesnt win on saturday he never will, but if theres enough money on the table does oscar take the rematch if he loses? this is pretty much the biggest money fight floyd can have. People wanna see him and hatton/Cotto or him vs Winky, but niether of those come close to DLH for a big money fight, and u know floyds all about that paper. Win or lose it might be floyd begging for the rematch not oscar
Kassim hasnt got the mentality to beat winky, he tends to lose focus in patches and drift through the rounds, whilst wright would be banking them. Wright by easy decision. As long as he's fighting decent level operators i dont think u can really accuse him of being cowardly in not facing ouma.
