JMM has definitely lost a step at 135lbs and is getting up there in age as well. At 140, I think he will get outmuscled and outgunned by someone as big as Maidana. Expect JMM to visit the canvas more than once.
where were you in the first round...
I don't think it was the bodyshot even though that would be a convenient excuse. He had the same issues during the Corley fight which was a sign that he either didn't do his road work or had developed poor eating habits. We'll know more in his next fight for sure.
Maidana is definitely a resilient fighter even if he aint very skilled. Gotta give the guy his props. And he looked a lot like a young Margarito in there tonight.
A young Margarito wouldn't have gassed though. He had Khan for the taking but ran out of gas like a 40 year old Mosley. He seriously needs a real nutritionist/conditioning coach.
When he fought Kotelnik he was able to unleash over 1000 punches and didn't even look that tired. Somewhere along the way his stamina regressed so something is definitely not right in his training camps.
If someone as crude as Maidana can land 20% you better believe Mayweather will land 50% on Khan's fragile whiskers. There's no way Khan will hold up under that type of punishment. If Amir thinks those silly flurries will help him he better think again. The cherrypicker will counter him silly to a KO.
Fighters like Khan and Maidana are several magnitudes below Pacquiao and Mayweather. They're not even in the league of Cotto or Margarito to be honest.
Margarito should grab K9 Bundrage's IBF belt then fight the rematch with Martinez at 154lbs if Cotto is not available for a second beatdown. If he works Sergio's body over and breaks him down, I think he can score a late round TKO again.
He could still beat the hell out of that IBF belt holder, Cornelius Bundrage. If Arum was smart he would set that gimme fight up next so Margarito can have a belt at 154. Margarito would kill that kid faster than he smoked Golden Johnson.
Pac beat a 160lb Cotto and a 165lb Margarito. Both of these guys would absolutely sodomize little fat Marquez without any drama.
Hopefully Katsidis beats some sense into his head this weekend.
Berto is chinny and has poor stamina in a high paced fight. Hernandez might be able to pull off the upset if he turns it into a war. Berto will likely look to grab and run as usual.
Paul and Sergio both weighed 168lbs on fight night. Margarito might weigh that much if he fought at 154 instead of the catchweight so yes it's pretty close.
The main difference is Tony's style like Williams is based largely upon being able to wear down and overpower their opponents whereas Martinez is a boxer/counter-puncher that depends greatly on movement & precision.
It's clear that neither Williams nor Margarito can use their regular style at 160 but might find decent success at 154lbs if they can still walk through their opponents at that weight.
So by that logic Paul's rematch and 1st Round KO of Quintana was a fluke as well? I mean Quintana gave a boxing lesson and solid beating to Williams the first time around.
He certainly looks like a young Valero but too bad he isn't a southpaw which was a considerable advantage for Edwin against most opponents.
Do you know what weight Luis is fighting at?
We respect the way he fell like a chopped down tree. That was quite impressive. A classic example of what happens when you don't "respect" your opponent and leave your hands by your side.
Froch should take note when he faces AA.
Anyone hit with that shot would have been in trouble.
Paul was winning the fight until that point, he was far too aggressive. He made a mistake and Martinez was able to land his shot.
Williams will be back he is still top P4P, and holds a 12 round decision win over Martinez do not forget.
:boxing:
Williams' chin has been deteriorating for a while now and has finally been shattered. He will be relegated to official gatekeeper status from now on.
And tarnish his image even more?
Nah, play the game by the rules get your payday and beating to go with it and call it a night...
The bigger the villain he becomes the more he can sell tickets and PPV due to the haters. I recommend him coming in at 154lbs to piss Roach and Manny off and knock them off their gameplan. Make it a toe to toe brawl with some taunting thrown in for effect. Great entertainment.
anybody know the overweight penalty for this fight?
if it is 10 mill per pound then forget it the fight aint happening
I don't think anyone has mentioned the penalty if there is one. If it's small he can just give up the BS vacant title and show up like Joan Guzman and weigh 160lbs with another 24hrs to rehydrate into a Super Middleweight for ****s and giggles.
Should really change the betting odds if something that wild were to happen.
Jose Luis Castillo was the master at the weight cheating game. He pulled that sh*t twice against Diego Corrales.
Margarito should do it just to get a rise out of that jackass Roach. There's no way in hell this is fight is getting cancelled. The 3 extra pounlds means that Margarito can probably come in as big as 167lbs vs. Pacquiao's 150 on fight night.
Probably Margarito since Cotto never took a knee against Pacquiao but both were pretty bad beatdowns.
The only way he could get a bigger asskicking is if he fights a puncher at 154 like Angulo or Kirkland that will spark him out.
Margarito is still more popular than both those guys combined. JMM has never been loved by the Mexicans although he is probably more well known now than he was during his peak years.
and I gotta wonder if Maidana has Corley to thank for Khan suddenly taking an interest?
If Maidana is getting 45% of the purse then he should definitely send some money Corley's way so that he can feed the 14 children under his care LoL.
Had Corley gotten sparked in 1 Round by Maidana, the fight with Khan would have been off indefinitely.
I think that a 55-45 split in favour of khan is reasonable.Maidana is pushing for 50/50 according to khans twitter page.We have no ida who'stelling the truth
Maidana deserves 45% as the interim WBA champion. Let's get this fight signed. Boxers these days fight more with their mouth and keyboard than they do in the ring.
