Yeah Don King did come up with some good stuff back in the day. He ran DKP like his own UFC. He had his brand and it was actually pretty good. Untill this day his KingVision cards are hard to come by.

I remember these as kid as all my dads friends came over to watch the fight on out 50" Big screen mitsubishi tv
King is probably a horrible person from all the stories I've heard but he was great for a boxing fan man did you get your moneys worth one if his cards would be divided into 4-5 ppv events by todays standards
And to think...this was one of his worst cards. I remember when this was announced I was like, "damn, Don King fell off."
lol if you only knew what the future would hold for you as a boxing fan!
like it was said earlier a lot of factors go into it but if quick $$$ is your goal your waaaaaay better off being a "journeyman" a tomato can , its like getting paid to give the a side fighter a workout your not supposed to win just last a couple rds and DONT GET HURT. In CO a journeyman who does his job can fight twice a month making $1000-$1500 a fight. As for prospects (under 10 bouts) they usually need a sponsor, trainer ,manager or a team supporting them. For example I know a up and comer who is sponsored by a group of local business men. One owns a used car lot so he provided a vehicle another owns some rental properties so he provided an apartment for the fighter. If your a prospect lucky enough to get support it will only be enough to live and train off of.
sweet pea had been boxing since a very young age and it's not necessarily the paid fights where you take damage the gym wars is where a lot of damage is done
I had a bad feeling about headgears, because in high school when I tried out for the football team, the football headgear I wore gave me the worst headache I've ever head without even being tackled. It was so heavy that it felt as if my head's weight was disproportionate to my entire body. Something was wrong there so I had to quit. I think getting hit in the head with those helmet/headgear on does more damage than the actual blow. No wonder the NFL has a bigger brain damage/concussion issues than boxing really does. People need to look into this. I think the problem becomes more internal rather than something you could see, external. Just because you didn't bleed people think you're OK.
As for sparring in the gym with boxing headgear and crotch protector, it does make it hard to move to avoid punches. The so called "cushion" is nothing more than padding, it does not make heavy blows less damaging.
I've seen lots of people spar and they appeared to be out of it, I don't get why they do it. Why couldn't they just work on defense and let the real fighting where they actually get paid do the talking? I do not get why boxers spar as if doing well in sparring will determine how they'll do in an actual fight without headgear. It doesn't determine it. James Toney do well in sparring according to some but in the ring not so much as the damage had been done while sparring.
Not sure if it was this forum I had asked about it but someone responded that one needs to spar to determine where their skill level and chin (if they can take a punch) stand? Can they take a punch? Why would anyone have to find out in sparring when it can be found out during the real fight? And if one is able to take a punch during sparring, it's because of the headgear and sparring gloves, and the reason why they are able to be punched to create the illusion that they can take a punch is because the peripheral vision isn't quite there that they are able to be hit, and those little punches that one can "take" adds to the damage. I was always anti sparring but usually the clueless trainers would want to see how you do.
Head gear is for one thing and one thing only preventing cuts. Anyone who says other wise is full of it. I dont know where people get this idea that headgear "softens" the blow. Im not sure what type of gym people ate training at where they get this misinformation. It surprises me to hear others say that it gives people a false sense on protection because if you have ever used headgear you would know the punches you the same. EVERY decent gym ive been to tells their students headgear is for preventing cuts.
Hands down of fights that I watched- Meldrick Taylor/JCC sr.
your just another punk who never seen the fight just regurgitating information he read on forums and YouTube if any of those fighters was winning why would their corner tell them to go for it in the 12? Before your respond your an idiot....
I have to be one of the few who doesn't like Ali. In my honest opinion one of the most overrated fighters in the history of the sport. Plus, I hate his style... he ran more than Mayweather and became brave once his opponent was dead tired. I just find his style very cowardly considering he was such a trash talker. So not interested at all in this. Tyson was a billion times the man and fighter than Ali ever was.
And your opinion matters because......?
he's from puerto rico so probably. Idk if he used plaster but This wouldnt put cheating past him (no gauze, material pulled from gloves,) You think the US amateur system is unorganized/corrupt try going to Puerto Rico. Colorado is another crazy place for boxing with lack of regulation.
Lennox knows far more about boxing than you.
obviously not if he thinks fury moves like Ali, and get furys c0ck out your mouth he has a wife and hates gays
Wilder couldnt finish a old shot fighter who is not even ranked in the top 35 and who took the fight on two weeks notice how pathetic is that he had every advantage height , reach and power. He needs to fire his basic ass 1,2 trainer who I feel is holding him back from reaching his true potential. He loses to the top hw's at this point of his career.
your an idiot Wilder DID stop him with a broken hand and wilder was treating this fight like a easy sparring match doing what he wanted when he wanted
Purses for tonight’s fight in Birmingham, AL per Dan Rafael from ESPN:
Deontay Wilder $1.4 million
Chris Arreola $150,000
Sammy Vasquez $225,000
Felix Diaz $125,ooo
Looks like Arreola has gotten the short end of the stick. Arreola stated previously that he didn’t know or care what he was getting paid. This proves true with this purse. We can only hope he fairs well in this fight tonight.
Why TF is wilder getting 1.4mil to fight a guy anyone would have a chance of KO-ing at the bus station. Also no way 150k is worth if for Arreola his take home is only going to be 70-75k for what most likely will give him brain damage in 20yrs. Arreola just had another child and being a shot fighter at 35 he knows his paydays are over. He is desperate and needs cash he couldnt even afford to be at the weigh in,in person
Its obvious what demographic"PBC" wants to appeal to. Good luck on you future pbc, u just lost a fan...
Your such a fan your dont even know the boxers names right....
Who do you think is the more frustrating fighter to watch, given their athletic gifts and technical abilities but their inability to be more aggressive and let their hands go?
Both guys have have the same 'just do enough to win' mentality, which is really not helping them get more fans or earning the big money shots.
I say Rigondeaux is more frustrating since he looks the more impressive of the 2. The real shame is that when he's on point he's a brilliant to watch but chooses to fight safety first. Lara's style in general is just a major eye sore that just isn't pretty to watch, although I do respect his skills.
Do they really teach this kind of style in Cuban boxing school? They need to take notes from watching Jose Napoles
In Cuba you can not be a professional athlete so rather you have 1 fan or 1,000,000 it doesnt matter theres no payday so from a cuban boxer perspective why go slug it out risk getting injured and have to work in a cogar factory when you can win off points and not get injured. Its a real learning curve especial when you have fighters who literally grew up in the cuban amatuer system from age 6.
If Breazeale can take the fight to the 2nd half he has a very good chance of winning. AJ is a heavy hitter used to going 3/4 rds Also Breazeale must remember to hold the phone and keep his right hand up and chin tucked. Also Breazeale HAS to ko AJ for a win he will never get a decision in the UK
This guy is a spill getting ready to happen on aisle 4. What will actually happen is... Brazier will teety flop n' flail himself out. It will be the first self-inflicted KO in boxing history. Then he'll get an endorsement deal with Jenny Craig, slim down to his actual proper weight, WW, do a legit KO of Malignaggi, and proclaim himself the new king of boxing.
who TF is Brazier? how can you have an opinion when you dont even know WHO is fighting let alone how they fight!?

Soon to be number 1 as he continues to destroy all. Is there a more terrifying sight in boxing then the hayemaker? Pure power and slicker then all others.
Come on david, ignore the loud mouth scouser and continue your rise up the rankings, as you deserve to be heavyweight champion of the world.
troll be gone!
A lot of them aren't woke like Ali. It was a different during Ali's time. The government endorsed racism was out in the open. Now it's hidden. An athlete would have to be conscious to understand what' really going on now. I'm not going to condemn 20 something year old men because hey aren't fully aware of how the system works. I know I was foolish when I was their age. They've been catered to since it was discovered they could make a shot or throw a football. The world they've lived in isn't the same world we lived in. I'm not ready to give up on our youth. Especially when I see so many more of them engaged in social justice than there were when I was their age.
if your 20 or older and you cant see whats REALLY going on you probably got some sort of learning disability regardless of what color you are

In the last 20yrs and all you could find was 7 articles of black athletes taking a stand and most of those were on twitter accounts that were deleted soon after smh. No you stay woke my brother..... The type of $$ these black rappers and athletes make they could do so much more but insted they"ll rather slit one anothers throat in the pursuit of a Kardashian
Ali was a draft dodging, arrogant loudmouth who was a bad representation of the black community. All in all, he was a warrior inside the ring but a coward outside out of it. Condolences to his family.
Says the keyboard Warrior who never got into a physical confrontation in his life because he's too much of a pu$$¥
