In ESNEWS videos, I always see Robert Garica sitting down eating chips instead of training his boxers. His son and ex-gang member assistants do more hands-on training than Robert himself.
It seems like he only cared about Marcos Maidana. With Maidana, Garcia trained with vigor and energy. But that's it.
He pimped out Brandon Rios like a cheap hooker, milked him for everything he could get. When Rios was preparing for a big fight, Robert hyped him up like a car salesman selling a busted beamer telling you it drives like a Cadillac. He would say things like Bam Bam was training like the old days when he was fighting at the lightweight division. Then Rios would lose badly and Garcia's bull**** would be exposed.
Ever since Rios left Garcia and joined new trainer Ricky Funez, he has shown an improved attitude and better training habits. Maybe because his trainer is actually training him instead of sitting down and eating junk food?

And are the fighters in his stable noticing his laziness and carefree attitude too? Many boxers have left Garcia in search of a competent trainer.
Does anyone think Robert Garcia is lazy, bad, and overrated?
You have to understand that he has a huge stable and will not dedicate all of his time on one fighter. That's just how it is in that camp. Alot of champs have been produced from that camp which means that Robert and family are obviously doing something that works. He can sit and eat all he wants just as long as champs keep coming out of that program. No. He is not overrated.
Absolutely NOT! I think trainers get blamed too much for fighters inability to do certain things. If they train all camp to cut the ring off and use Head Movement and come fight night the fighter doesn't do anything you practiced in training camp, how is that the Trainer Fault?

I agree with you 110%. I even saw some videos of ellie that during the training camp they have carne Asada bbq no wonder his fighters can make weight. And on top of that he is always on vacation. The reason Cuellar left him was because robert was barely ever there. It was always an assistant with him
He's a good trainer but yea I don't think he's the Mayweather Sr type to break you down and work you like a dog. Ricky Hatton would be a good candidate to be under Garcia's tutelage for instance.
He does great for guy's that don't focus on intangibles of pseudo-scientific practices like eating certain minerals or having heavy focus on flashy tactics to cut corners in the ring. To be effective under him you have to already be a mentally and physically tuff person which is pretty much expected from the get go of them. Durability would be a good word to describe people suited for his training. His tactic of training is very conservative meaning his trainees are trained under collective boxing fundamentals rather then unorthodox tactics
He is a cut through the bullsh*t kind of guy and seems to start from the ground up when training. I've always noticed his boxers looked more defensively sound than many other boxers out there. He did a great job turning Maidana from a brawler to a puncher-boxer (I think his dad had more of an impact on training Maidana) but I don't know how well he'd do turning a boxer-puncher, who may have untapped potential with power, into a power puncher. But most fighters are like that.
Say what you want about Roach, he really does well with finding his fighters strength and aiming whatever fire that is in their offensive approach
For example:
Khan always on the attack, overwhelming his opponent, taking all the opportunities to attack because he has so many with his hand speed.
Provo, again, always on the offensive confident that his power alone will turn the fight with maybe one landed power shot.
Pacquiao using his narrow build to cut through the guard and then using that same foot speed to feint in and out creating traps for those who enter the line of fire.
Trained mikey garcia from a kid, maidana became alot better after garcia became his trainer. Its not robert garcias fault a fighter slacks off or isnt commited to training . Chavez jr has always been a lazy ass , rios becomes fat in the offseason then has terrible weight cuts against bradley . Robert is a good trainer he just happens to have trained guys like rios and chavez jr
I think Roberts dad is responsible for training Mickey mostly. But he did improve maidana
I hope rios looks better in his comeback
He is too laid back and doesn't seem to encourage discipline in his fighters. That said he turned Maidana from a guy that was whitewashed by Alexander to the guy that annihilated Broner and gave Mayweather one of his toughest bouts.

He had a stable of already top fighters but you have to give him credit for Mikey and Maidana's improvement

He's a hype job when I use to train my nephew he fought about 5 of his fighters and beat them all and on top of that they all had more experience than him
