it very unlikey youll get brain damage in amature you wear a head gaurd
showed them that already. they say just because you dont die doesnt mean your not gunna have brain damage. i showed them a lotta boxing safety links already.
Could you just not tell them that your boxing and make your own way to the gym and back?
nah, i wouldnt be able to do that. first it would be really hard for me to get transportation there w/o my parents or housekeeper. second, even if i did get some kind of transportation my housekeeper is always at home, so it would be too hard to even be leaving the house for like 3 hours. third, even if i could make it there and back with transportation and nobody knowing, you have to be 18+ to sign all the forms and everything about the security stuff.
I understand there worry for you safety and thats why probably today boxing isn't a mainstream sport because parents don't want there kids to do it for the safety reasons. Do you come from a pretty wealthy family? Because there comment about the sport not being high class seems ignorant. I know a lot of boxers come from rough lives and bad situations, but that doesn't mean that everybody in the sport is poor and uneducated. It seems like your trying to educate your parents about the sport which is good. If it's really what you want to do you have to go for it and if your parents truely care about you they will let you pursuit it. Like others have said it's probably good that you train for a while before you start having matches. Good Luck I hope it works out for you, we need more young athletes now a days turning to boxing.
im about middle / wealthy class. i do agree about their comment being igorant, but my mom always looks down on boxers and think their nothing and wont do much in life. she has absoluetly no respect for ali and think that he doesnt do anything in life and fighting is all he knows. she says stuff about him when she doesnt know what he does outside of boxing and how he has inspired a lot of people. in the meantime if my parents dont let me fight, ill be training till im 18, then ill start there.
well if i cant win this argument about boxing, then ill just have to wait till im 18. my mom said she would let me train, but wouldnt let me fight, so i guess ill be training hard till im 18 and then finally be able to box, without letting my mom know since she would be terribly scared.
That's cool. I know there are people out there that think that anybody who fights for a living is dumb or worthless. At least you don't. If anything tell your mom how much time, dedication, and hard work goes into fighting. I don't know if that will work though, it seems your mom is pretty set in your ways.
yea i already told her. she says people dont respect boxers and look down on them so i told her that if those people actually did boxing they would respect boxers because of all the hardwork, pain, endurance, dedication, discipline, and other stuff that fighters have to go through. and i told her a lotta ppl quit in the beginning because its so hard and they cant take it. i also said stuff like it makes you learn discipline, the meaning of hardwork, and other things that can help you in life in general
If you really want to box you will find away kid!!! just train for the mean time and time will fly!!! it might not be a bad thing for you to train for a few years!!!
yea, ill be training in the meantime cause my parents will let me train but not fight. i feel the trainers there wont pay much attention on me, cause im not gunna be fighting or at least for a couple years.
As an amateur boxing official let me just say that it is a great sports and in my opinion has less risk of injury than football does. You will learn a lot about yourself and things like endurance, respect, dedication, and discipline will carry over to other aspects of your life and career. Athletics, and boxing in particular, is a great way to improve yourself as a person. It really is a great sport.
As far as people looking down on boxing as a sport tell your family that you want to be the type of person that doesn’t let other people's perceptions guide your actions. However, having said all of that you should always respect your family’s opinion and listen to them as they have your best interest at heart. Let it help guide your decision. I wish you well.
i agree that boxing makes yourself a better person and i tried explaining this to my parents. ive told them that at this point my confidence and self-esteem isnt very high and boxing can help me with it. it confuses me cause i dunno why my parents let me play football before, but wont let me box. i do understand that they care for my safety and i know they dont want me to regret it cause they think ill get brain damage. i really want to do this though. thanks for the info though, ill def tell them that i wanna be the type of person that doesnt let other people's perceptions guide my actions.
Your prolbably screwed bro.
Your not old enough to get a license yourslef, a guardian needs to sign it.
On the license it says sh!t like, I understand that boxing may result in death or permanent damage and agree to blah blah blah.
Dont sound like your parents would sign it after reading that.
you dont strike me as a fighter, but i dunno. Yiu should find a way to give it a try.
yea, i have that paper and my parents have read it. thats why they dont want me to do it even more now. they'll let me train, so ill be training till im 18 and thats when i can sign it and everything and start fighting.
Tell them your joining the army. When they tell you how "Dangerous" it is just say its something you really want to do.After you've made them sweat for a bit tell them you've changed your mind and decided to take up Boxing instead.
i cant do that. ive already tried stuff like that saying that it will hurt me a lot more and ill be messed up if they dont let me box and my mom just went crazy saying im too much in this and just started yelling. i think i should find a different way around this.
already showed them a lotta that stuff, but they dont believe it cause if a trainer or something says its dangerous, then they wouldnt be able to get as much money. ive showed them a lotta pages about the safety and had them talk to trainers, but they still wont let me right now.
Well, start training.
Not that I know a lot about the boxing training process, but I'd assume if you've never trained at all before - you have quiet a ways to go before you have any real fights, anyways.
And honestly, just tell your parents you love them but you really want to do this - and you will one way or another - but that you'd really like their support in this, and to be apart of it with you.
If they still disagree, do what you have to do. If they really love you, they'll come around (eventually). That said, I don't blame your parents one bit for being afraid for you - so don't think they're trying to be assholes - they just don't want you to get hurt.
yes ive told them the stuff you said already. i told them when im 18 i can be making decisions by myself and they wouldnt be able to stop it. i want their support, but if they dont, ill have to go on my own. also i dont think they're trying to be assholes. i know that im young and they care about my safety a lot. its just that i really want to do this.
dang my thing is pretty laggy and keeps going a little then stopping. is this happening to anyone else or is it just me? can i do anything about this? do i gotta wait and it will get better or is it just my internet?
wen u type in the address does it buffer all the way to 100%, cos for me it only goes to around 43% then shows the pic, n the lags, sumtimes it doesnt even show the pic, it just buffers for lik ages. how long does it take for u guys to buffer ?
my net connection is adsl.
same for me man. can someone please help us? it will suck watching the whole fight like this.
kimbo has a repuation for being a really nice guy in person. I have a few mutaul aquaintences who all have said the same.
