Posted this before in one of the forums. The subject is still relevant if not theraputic:
To this day I can't bare to rewatch the Tyson/Douglas fight.
But with Sup (That's what I call him), I sometimes find myself rewatching that 2nd fight with Tarver and actually hoping for a different outcome. I went through the FOUR stages of grief with that fight.
1. Denial: When Sup slumped back like he did after that "lucky lick", I didn't even flinch. I actually tricked my brain into believing that the knockdown didn't happen.
2. Anger: Immediately, I viewed Tarver as the typical tattle-telling cousin from the suburbs who "snucked" me and then ran and snitched. (He didn't even see the ko punch he threw with his eyes closed as he was clearly losing the fight)
3. Barganing: "Please god... Tell me this isn't happening!!!"
4. Depression: You could literally tell who all the RJJ fans were by the body language and the look on the faces at work the following monday.
I used to be a fan of that hypocrite but that's all gone now.
His crime rooting for Guererro, check that where they hype boxing.
You avitar and images say it all bruh... end of story.
I can NOT for the life of me believe that Roy is not regarded at least as one of the greatest LHW and the greatest SMW ever despite his downfall. Never has anyone in the history of those divisions stood as far and tall, head and shoulders above the rest of his peers as he has over a very significant amount of time in the style and fashion that he has done it. Without him in the LHW division at the time he dominated, we would have a toss up of who would be the number one guy to unify the belts (Griffin, Tarver, Harding, Woods, Hill etc...). Many say that Superman ducked Michalczewski, however he rarely if EVER left his country for the big fights. Furthermore, why should Jones have compromised his comfort zone and barganing power to go overseas when he was regarded as the number one P4P boxer in the world at the time? It doesn't make sense. In fact, he mentioned Michelsewski as a possible opponent at the Glenn Kelly postfight interview.
James Toney is not as high in the ATG ranking as Michalczewski. and Toney was weight drained when he fought Roy. furthermore Collins, Eubank and Benn are on the same level as James Toney and tbh I think at least 2 guys out of my list would have beaten Roy Jones
You need to stick Yo Self for that one!
Yet ask yourself this; Who have you seen hit with the cleaner shots, Roy Jones from 1994-2004? Or Floyd Mayweather from 1999 until present day?
I cannot name a single occasion where I saw Jones hit clean, let alone hurt,
Try Lou Del Valle who dropped Roy in the eighth round in 1998
Ali is feather fisted.
I say in the words of the Great Richard Pryor regarding Ali's fist "People keep saying 'Ali, he has no punch...' But he steady keep knockin muthafukas out!!!..."

Mayweather #4???
FLOYDD (zzzzz...) Mayweather... the #4 showman in boxing over Tyson, Whitaker, Leonard, and SUPERMAN???
And he's the ONLY one on your list with his FULL NAME and both "AKA" nicknames with an exclamation point to boot. LOL!!!
For all those who's watched the Obama episode of the Boondocks, the first thing that comes to mind is:
*singing* "Dick-rid-ing-May-wea-therrrrrrrrr...."
He's got a fight tomorrow against Matt Godfrey, do you guys like him?
I've seen him fight a couple of times, I think he moves great for a CW. I would like to see him stay at HW and get that money.
Let's see if Freddie Roach can help keep him on the right path.
Eeehhh....
Eddie has absolutely NO business putting any HW on blast until he rids himself and the american boxing public of the image of him getting bent over the ropes, face down, with his ass in the air by Klitscko! PERIOD!
This fight INDEED has Clay/Liston implications written all over it!
What cannot be overlooked is, much like Clay, Haye is looked at primarily as a loud-mouthed pretty boy with little to no chance of beating a boxer who, much like Liston, is the most dominant heavyweight of a dark era besides his brother Vitali.
When I read the title of this post, I just KNEW there would be imediate responses calling nachorjj's analysis ridiculus. And what may be misleading or blinding fans from of the similarities is the Legend that has become Muhammad Ali. Cassius Clay was not the star the Ali was and, at the time of his first bout with Liston, was viewed only as an entertaining boxer who was somewhat unknown to casual fans.
Now, while the abilities and/or skills between Haye/Clay & Vlad/Liston may not compare, the implications are strikingly similar.
lmao the guy is obviously a roy dick rider, see how many times he uses courage and makes it look like his defeats were flukes
Did you truly read the entire article? "Courage" was only used once.
I think Bob Foster would be a great fight....but Roy in his prime was maybe one of the greatest we have ever witnessed. Calzaghe would have gotten blasted, Hagler was a come forward aggressor and Roy would have ate him up in the latter rounds, I think. But, there could have been fighters that would compete, but I doubt beat, Roy was special, and that knida special doesnt come around too often. Otherwise this thread wouldn't have been created nor would Roy have as many naysayers/ haters as he does.
Couldn'ta said it ANY better!!! Well said!
Thanks 4 This One!!!
Mannnnn!!!! Thanks 4 posting the link to 8CN! I'm a DIEHARD Fan of RJJ. This is a gold mine. Now I have something to read when I'm at lunch.
I believe that Jack Johnson's win over Jim Jeffries was the most important, vis a vis the vicious racism then prevalent in the US. It has been reported that there were riots all over the country, and about 16-18 pewople killed in mob violence.
World famous writers like Jack London get involved, coining the term "The Great White Hope"....even Jim Corbett was a Jeffries' sparring partner, Old John L. Sullivan turned out at Jeffries' camp....
And, they enticed Jeffries out of retirement with an enormous (for the times) purse of well over $100,000, I think $130,000(?). He lost over 100 lbs in weight for this fight.
Although I said it first in quote #11, :) I'm almost jealous of ur DEAD ON reponse even though I also mentioned Johnson's win over Tommy Burns in 1908. Good stuff bro!
Johnson win over Jefferies caused the only other nation race riot in the U.S. other than the assasination of Dr. King!
How can ANYONE miss that when speaking of great hw wins of all time?
Like Prime Roy would stand there with his glvoes up while his opponent sticks his face into his gloves.
Would never happen.
Dude... did you HAVE to put that visual back in my head??? Dog On!!!

:bryce: he cant even beat froch but he think he can beat calzaghe ass
Newsflash: Dirrell DID win a close fight against Froch. The decision was garbage.
