Anyone in the history of the 168 division, who actually beats a Prime 168 Roy Jones JR legitimately?
Quoted from another member on this forum "Roy may be the best SMW in the history of the division"
DJ, You doubt it, and I don't.
DJ, If RJ lands the same left hookercut he landed on Montell Griffin I doubt he keeps coming too.
Yes Griffin was at LHW, but Im talkin about the punch itself.
reed, given that sugar ray robinson, ranks miles ahead of roy jones jr., on the atg list, i'd say that its a good bet that sugar ray robinson, had one of the all-time greatest chins as well as talent in boxing, and takes that punch, and keeps coming..reed, i'd say marvelous marvin hagler, a fighter i've personally seen in my lifetime, takes roy jones jr's punch, and walks him down, spotting roy jones jr. 5 lbs...reed, sugar ray robinson, has never been ko'd in over 200 professional fights, and marvelous marvin hagler, arguably, never left his feet his whole pro career...reed, we know roy jones, was ko'd slightly past prime...

But we're debating Prime FOR Prime, right?
The 168lb, 25yr old Roy Jones Jr right?
And it doesnt matter who is the originator, those that originate are not always the best at it.
Michael Jacksons dance moves are based on James Brown... Is James Brown a better dancer than MJ?
Prime RJ would be the most difficult fight to come out with a win for SRR... ESPECIALLY at 168lbs.
reed, we talking about the originator, AND the best, because as you pointed out, of his record, and we ain't talking about dancin', we talkin' about fightin'
reed, the best fighter, that prime roy jones jr., faced, imo, is james toney @ 168 lbs...reed, i'd take sugar ray robinson, @ 160 lbs., if that is the case...reed, if sugar ray robinson, lands the same left hook, that he landed on gene fullmer, on roy jones, questionable chin, reed, i doubt if roy jones, is gonna keep comin'

That's right. Move like a featherweight and punch like a HW.

Im not saying he would OUTCLASS him, Im saying he would be the best fighter SRR ever fought and vice versa... and with that said, Roy would have seen SRR's style a lot more then SRR would of seen Roys.
With that said, Im stricly talking about 168lbs.
reed, what roy jones jr., would be looking at in sugar ray robinson, imo, is the ORIGINATOR OF HIS OWN STYLE, minus the showboating, and chicken dancing...reed, roy jones jr.'s style wouldn't exist in boxing, if it wasn't for sugar ray robinson, and jack johnson, fighters who had style, and substance
...so reed, if you said, that roy jones jr., was the most talent boxer, that sugar ray robinson, ever faced, then i wouldn't have an argument, but when you say, that roy jones jr., would be the best "fighter" that ray robinson would face, well reed, i would have to strongly disagree, given how sugar ray robinson, was fighting and beating guys way past his prime, and once roy jones jr., got slightly past his prime, he was starched in 2 rounds,
roy has hurt every single one of his opponents through his first 54 fights
robinson is so open to a speedy guy like roy i can see roy land plenty of flush power shots, something he wasn't as capable against defensive atg's like toney and hopkins
robinson would take a plastering
i think leonard style wise stands a better chance vs roy
reed, one thing that sugar ray robinson and sugar ray leonard, would have that would baffle roy jones, is the heart, chin, and stamina, to take roy jones best shots, and keep coming at him, something that a fighter like roy jones, doesn't know too much about, because in roy jones jr.'s era, roy jones jr fought more inferior opposition, than equal, or superior opposition...

People need to get it out of their heads SRR was unbeatable at anyweight against anyone.
He's known as the greatest MAINLY for his RECORD... though his fighting style was definitely ahead of it's time.
Against Roy, it wouldn't be ahead of it's time.
SRR wouldnt have more speed, more power, better reflexes... IMO SRR could end up being baffled because he had never seen someone like Rj fight.
reed, lets not get too gassed up, on that roy jones jr. koolaid here...
roy jones jr., stylewise, is a direct descendent of muhammad ali and ray leonard, who were descendents of ray robinson, who was a descendent of jack johnson...
reed, don't make it seem like roy jones jr., would be able to shuck, jive, and chicken dance his way to a victory over ray robinson, or, put his hands behind his back, and ko ray robinson with one punch...

Noone. Point. Blank. Period.
As I say now and again Roy Jones Jr. at 168 is the best boxer to ever lace on a pair of gloves. Everything you needed to make the greatest boxer ever, he possessed.
