Let's not forget about the old guys!
-Pac
-JMM
-FMJ
These ol' dudes can still make 140. If the money is right and the PPV potential is high, I can see these guys moving back down. Likely, probably not, but not 100% out of the question.
Vote and discuss why/why not.
:werd:
YES, Yes and yes!!! At the very least, it will stop all the keyboard judging on this sight! :boxing: Just kidding! The rematch "should" clearly decide the better fighter. I put should in quotes, after all it is BOXING!
2 different styles and the rematch could go either way or the same as the first fight.
IMHO, I would give Provo the nod in the rematch just because he has the better team. "Rocky" should've finished Agieri on Sat. Props to Agieri for getting back up and doing his thing. I was actually rooting for Agieri in the fight because of all the hype leading up to the fight. Dude got heart!
Provo is not done, by any stretch of the imagination. Kid is still young and he was not hurt at all. Agieri looked like he got beat by the cops who did a # on Rodney King. :cop:
I am sure Roach and company will tweak the game plan a bit to get the W in the rematch. But you just never know.
If I had to bet, I would put my money on Provo. He had the fight all but won but did not finish.
Didn't vote! I can't make the call on this one.
I think it will be a GREAT fight. Fireworks galore. Someone is going down. Just get the fight made.
The winner will be...us fans!
Vic's heart ain't in it 100%. At the top level, you gotta be committed to the sport 100%.
Dude is young and making money elsewhere without some dude trying to kick your ass! I think I would choose that route too.
Don't blame Vic. There are other up & coming fighters whose heart is in it all the way!
Damn, give Cotto credit for the win already.
Maravilla was fine or else his team would not have put him in the situation in the first place. If he was not fine and his team fed him to Cotto, then who is at fault?
Martinez looked fine. His knee did not give out and he admits that himself. Dude got sparked out and was trying to avoid the next punch. Why are some people making excuses, Martinez does not even make?
Paulie got Manny and Roach shook right now with all this talk about them meeting in the ring. Paulie will switch southpaw and hit Manny with a lead left and spark him out. People will think Manny died...again!
I like it. Another poster stated this will open up boxing to the world. Pac is a huge international name and he will pack the house in any country. Good for the sport even if not necessarily good for Manny.
I see maybe 3 fights this year. If it goes 4, it will end in good ol' Vegas against Bud. If it is only 3, then I see Manny/Bud at the end of the year.
Alot of people saying Manny ain't ready for Bud. I think it goes both ways. Bud needs some fights at 147 to see if he can handle the weight and power at welter. Manny needs another 2 camps and fights to get back to true fighting form and at the same time, it will give Freddy and Team Pac a few more fights to see if he can handle the likes of Bud and if the fight game is still in his heart 100%.
Stay Tuned, I will!
Prime vs Prime @ any weight, Pac wins, hands down.
Today below 135, Loma "should" win.
Today above 138, Pac "should" win.
The 136-137 range is the gray area. 50/50 fight.
That interview was hard to watch. I did not like how he quit, but I felt for the guy during the post fight interview. The way he was thanking the fans while the boos were raining down, was uncomfortable to watch.
C'mon y'all, Loma by KO??? Algieri, Rios, Bradley and Vargas would give Loma fits and probably knock him out even after Saturday's beautiful performance. These dudes could barely lay hands on Pac, let alone hurt him.
Nah, Loma is the real deal. How far he goes is still to be determined. The big money/career defining fights are at 147 and above. That is why Pac and Floyd moved their azzes up. I don't know if Loma can go that high, but for now, he is the SHIZNIT below 135. Of course, that is in my humble opinion.
I won't deny JMM sparked him out and Floyd beat him, BUT, kid is still fighting and is, AGUABLY, the best welterweight at the moment. JMM is not even TOP 5 and you can't add Floyd to the mix until he comes out of retirement. Pac not the monster he once was, but dude still throwing hands at a high level. His reign continues.
Better question is who will put him in to full blown retirement?
Linares = War. Jorge would make it intriguing the first 5-7 rounds and can possibly knock down Loma if he catches him with a good punch. IMHO, Loma knocks him out late.
Gamboa = Good while it lasts. Hand speed would be on display for 3-4 rounds. IMHO, Loma figures Gamboa out and sparks him in the middle rounds.
Garcia = ???. I want to say Loma turns him and peppers Mikey with shots from all kinds of different angles, but Mikey is a big guy and will take some to get his. Kid throws with power and if connects, Loma can be knocked down. IMHO, Loma dances and toys with Mikey and outclasses him. Loma by wide UD.
I don't think Loma will get to 147. Shoot I said that about Pac and I ate crow!
I believe Loma walked in @ 136 on fight night. Give the kid some time to enjoy the win. Loma and his team will need to really think about moving up to 135. At 135, he got Linares, Flanagan, Verdejo, Mikey and Gamboa to choose from. At 140, he has to get through Crawford, Postol and Broner. At 147, Manny, Brook, Thurman, Porter, Bradley, Khan, Garcia and Spence. If and when Loma gets to 147, I don't think Brook or Spence will be there. Those 2 may be up at Junior Middle.
Looking at it on paper, I don't think Loma should rush to go up in weight. It could be career suicide. Unless names like Pac and Mayweather are involved along with the hype and money, he should move up slowly. It's not like he is killing himself to make weight.
Floyd's first pro fight was at Super Feather against Apodaka. Damn, that was 20 frickin' years ago!
@ 130, Prime vs Prime, Floyd takes the "W". IMHO, this fight would be a war. Both guys would not back down and can crack at this weight. Floyd by UD.
Loma by wide UD. Loma outclasses Mikey today. Mikey has been too stagnant. I think Mikey moves up soon to 140 if he continues fighting. Mikey needs more fights. Since 2013, dude fought twice??? Ain't no way anyone with that type of inactivity is going to school the upper echelon of the sweet science! Tomato cans, sure, other than that, no way!
Vargas and unify. The strap means more than avenging the Salido loss. We all have to agree Salido will get beat handily by Loma at this point.
After that, Garcia @ 135 and then Pac at 140, if he beats Mikey, which I think he will.
If McGregor does end up boxing a no-name boxer, I can see that boxer taking a dive. The money and hype that would be generated by McGregor knockout of a boxer would be too much for "someone" to get "involved".
I may be off-base, but I won't put it past any boxer making minimum $$$ boxing the circuit.
Fight would've been really competitive 3-4 years ago. Don't sleep on TB, he is a good fighter. Floyd by UD 3 years ago as well as today.
Timmeh needs to get busy and fight. His clock is ticking and he is at the end of his prime if not passed. Just get in the ring and prove all of us wrong/right. Tim is regarded as a Top 5 welter in most boxing circles. I agree with some of the comments that TB is the best behind Floyd and Manny. Again, get in the ring Tim and show us where you at!
True Dat. Pac mentioned the gloves were not an issue. He would wear whatever was agreed upon.
It was a surprise to me each fighter agreed wearing their own brand of gloves. Can't ask for more than that...glove wise!
Bud needs a tuneup at 147 before he fights the top level just to see how he handles the extra "stuff" at welter. Why not Lucas? It would be entertaining and Lucas is a big enough name to garner attention and help with marketing the fight.
Good One!
Wow, this thread went sideways quick!!!
It all depends on Broner. We all know what Mikey brings to the table. Mikey and his corner will always be ready on fight night.
Broner on the other hand, is a loose cannon. If he is serious about this fight, motivated to train and follow a good game plan, and be in the best shape of his life, we may have a full-on scrap here. If not, Mikey will destroy AB. Broner is naturally bigger and has some serious hand speed. If he can throw more than a few punches/round, he can be successful and test Mikey's chin. If he sits there and poses, Mikey will throw hands and eventually time him with clean counters or be the agressor and take the fight to Broner.
I hope Broner is serious and comes ready to fight. I want to see the best versions of both fighters we've seen to this point in each of their careers come fight night. No excuses, go out there put on a show and let the better fighter win!
I man can only hope!
The motivation to win this fight is HUGE for both AB and Mikey. It all depends on who is more motivated and who is more ready come fight night.
I give the edge to Mikey because he has the better corner and IMHO, Mikey is more intelligent in and out of the ring. AB is all about that shock value and hyping himself. I am not saying he is not serious about his craft, but I don't think he is 100% all about the fight game.
Again, the motivation is crazy high to win this high-profile fight. Maybe AB gets real with his training, his head and leaves the hyping to the promoters? I know Mikey's corner will have Mikey ready to fight. Mikey is the consummate pro, so his motivation to win will always be there.
I have a feeling it will be a good scrap. I ain't betting on this one. I will not be surprised if either man wins.
Great Post, OP!
