Chris "The Dragon" John was at one time regarded as being the best
Featherweight in the world. Chris John held various versions of that
WBA World Featherweight Championship from 2004-2013 he made a
total of 14 successful defenses with 3 draws defeating Osamu Sato,
Derrick "Smoke" Gainer, Daud Yordan, Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo, Rocky
Juarez and that controversial win over Juan Manuel Marquez. It was
Juan Manuel Marquez who elected to fight Chris John in Indonesia for
less money because there was a very lucrative offer to fight Pacquiao
in a rematch in 2006 after their first fight which was declared a draw
in 2004. One could make a valid point that Juarez got an undeserving
draw in his hometown of Houston when he fought Chris John in 2009.
All the fights were great including the untelevised portion of the card.
Top Rank has been putting great cards together the past few months
since they signed that new deal with ESPN. For not having to sign up
for HBO or Showtime premium subscription us fans are getting a lot of
great fights. The Gassiev-Doriticos World Boxing Super Series Semifinal
match up also, happen on Saturday however, it was shown on Audience
you have to be subscribed to Directv to see all those fights on Audience.

You're a fan of boxing from the great state of Texas?:boxing:
I'm not attending, but I applaud your effort to build it up, man.
Could be some good fights.
I hope so.
No news as of yet. The event had a surprisingly weak undercard.
Randy Caballero vs Diego De La Hoya match up was decent other
than that it wasn't worth the $79.99 price for hi-def pay per view
and all the controversy surrounding the judges decision afterwards.
Interesting side note the newly crowned IBF Super Featherweight
Champion Argenis Mendez says that he's willing to take that fight
with Mike Garcia providing Top Rank can't make that fight happen
with Roman Martinez. I would still be interested in seeing the fight
happen either opponent vs. Mike Garcia would be great to watch.
I heard about this as well had been waiting for it to be officially announced.
Another thing I would like to address. Boxrec.com had the date
originally scheduled for November 17, 2013. Today I recently did
check for any updates and it has been moved forward to 11/9/13
and I went online to check if Ticketmaster had listed any events
for that date at the American Bank Center and it shows that the
Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders Womens Basketball team has
games scheduled for every Saturday for the entire month of Nov.
So, my question is that is there any truth behind the article that
ESPN released recently about the Top Rank Boxing event that will
scheduled for the American Bank Center arena? Anybody know??

Jesus... Just get the fight signed or STFU! Too much talking for a fight that isn't signed yet.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Yes, they should just make that fight happen already
for December. However, I kind of agree with what Devon
Alexander said about Jesus Soto Karass deserving the title
match opportunity before Amir Khan. Soto-Karass has been
on a two fight win streak defeating Selcuk Aydin and Andre
Berto both whom are two top Welterweight contenders this
is kind of like a modern day Micky Ward for this boxing era I
think he deserves that title match opportunity before Khan.
Look at Amir Khan's last two opponents Carlos Molina & Julio
Diaz he struggled with Julio Diaz got knocked down. He didn't
look impressive in that win. Mean while even though JSK lost
to Marcos Rene Maidana he gave a valiant effort and he won
his last two to much better opposition. If he fights Alexander
this wont be Micky Ward-Zab Judah all over again we will be
in store for a really great action packed fight because Jesus
Soto Karass will be applying pressure making it a great fight.
I would love if he fought Sergio Martinez. Not really likely with the whole HBO vs Showtime bull***** but this fight will sell, which is what promoters want, and it would be a great fight. The same exact thing applies to Miguel Cotto, other than the fact he currently has no titles and Martinez is the middleweight champ.
Option c I talked about earlier, and the other two I don't know I would rather see him fight the Lara/ Trout winner first.
Actually I think those fights could somehow happen remember
Vanes Martirosyan vs. Erislandy Lara this was a WBC title belt
eliminator for Alvarez's title at the time. Erislandy Lara is signed
to Golden Boy Promotions, Vanes Martirosyan is with Top Rank,
the fight was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions because they
won the purse bid, Top Rank didn't promote that event Martinez
is an HBO fighter however, if the fight itself landed on Showtime
pay per view I'm sure the same thing could be worked out with
his promoter Lou DiBella and remember Miguel Cotto isn't signed
to Top Rank Inc. Miguel has Cotto Promotions in Puerto Rico.
I rather see Canelo vs Ortiz.
Yes, definitely that could be a possibility Saul Alvarez wants to fight
three times in 2014 however, that still leaves Carlos Molina without a
opponent for December. How about former WBO Jr. Middleweight title
champion Zaurbek Baysangurov? He was rumored to be lined up for a
rematch with Cornelius Bundrage however, the fight hasn't been lined
up for a date yet. Zaurbek Baysangurov vs. Carlos Molina would be a
good interesting fight, remember styles make good fights in boxing.
Now they're saying that International Boxing Federation rejected
the Carlos Molina vs. Victor Ortiz fight because Ortiz isn't ranked
in the top 10, top 20 for that matter of Junior Middleweights the
only legit Junior Middleweight opponent I could think of signed to
Golden Boy Promotions would be Cornelius Bundrage. Have a look
check out the top 15 fighters for the IBF Junior Middleweight title.

Saul Alvarez did say recently an interview that he would fight
(three) times in 2014. The way I see it the best possible good
options for him out there in the boxing world today are..........
Option A: Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez - The Middleweight King is
slated to return to boxing in Spring of 2014 opponent TBA. This
would be a great marquee match up because remember at one
time Sergio Martinez was ranked one of the best Jr. Middlweights
in the world, Sergio Martinez can still make 154 to fight Alvarez.
Option B: Miguel Angel Cotto - Miguel Cotto made an impressive
return to the ring earlier this month dismantling an over matched
opponent Delvin Rodriguez in three rounds. Golden Boy had hoped
to match up Cotto with Alvarez however, the bout never happen
so, now it would be difficult with Cotto Top Rank Alvarez w/ GBP.
Option C: Carlos Molina/Victor Ortiz winner, remember Molina is a
very good name to have on your resume, he's won a lot of those
fights in which the decisions didn't go his way, even the infamous
DRAW with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. back in 2005. I doubt that Ortiz
will win this fight, I think Carlos Molina will win unanimous decision.
Option D: Cornelius Bundrage he has been idle since losing his title
to Ishe Smith, earlier this Spring, he was rumored to be a opponent
for Miguel Cotto however, that fight didn't materialize. After losing to
Floyd Mayweather Jr. I think Saul Alvarez would need a good win just
to get his confidence back then, he could take on a major opponent.
Option E: Alfredo "El Pero" Angulo, everybody has been asking for him
to fight a tough, risky fight, we've never seen Canelo fight a dangerous
opponent unless, Antonio Margarito comes out of retirement then, Pero
would be a great scarp to watch featuring Saul Alvarez, after seeing the
wars with Kirkland and Lara imagine a fight between Alvarez and Angulo?
Not going to happen. Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez via 10th Rd TKO
over Martin Murray tonight in Argentina. I will give credit where it
is due Martin Murray deserved the victory over Felix Sturm it was
a unjustified draw Martin Murray deserved to win that fight Sergio
is a much better fighter and the best Middleweight in the world he
will bring a good fight just like Matthew Macklin. Sergio Martinez is
just going to breakdown his opponent in the end like Sergio always
does. I predict a late TKO victory he's fighting in front of his crowd.
I had the privilege of seeing Paul Williams last fight live in
person ringside when Paul beat Nobuhiro Ishida in February
of last year. Nobuhiro Ishida was a quality opponent after
all he knocked out and stopped James Kirkland in an upset.
I followed Paul Williams career had Paul fought Saul Alvarez
last year in September instead of a Jr. Welterweight Josesito
Lopez I think Paul Williams would have outboxed Saul Alvarez
he did defeat a stronger, tougher opponent in his prime Tony
Antonio Margarito back in 07' that's just my personal opinion.

Well it's basically the same road that Robert Guerrero took
to win the WBC Welterweight Title. Guerrero defeated Aydin
to win that belt last year. If Adrien Broner defeated Paulie in
that fight it's basically the same thing moving up two weight
classes to Lightweight to Welterweight. There are some good
fights that can still be made at Lightweight and he should try
to unify the division and move up before challenging someone
in a higher weight class. I wouldn't mind seeing Malignaggi get
that fight with Shane Mosley. Here are some potential fights.
Adrien "The Problem" Broner vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa
Adrien "The Problem" Broner vs. Richard Abril
Adrien "The Problem" Broner vs. Ricky Burns
Another good comparison would be Roy Jones Jr. moving up
from Light Heavyweight to Heavyweight and defeating then
WBA Heavyweight Champion Johnny Ruiz for his crown then
shortly there after Roy Jones JR. dropped back down to his
regular weight class Light Heavyweight to fight a few times.
Andre Berto is a gate keeper. I would prefer to see him fight
Amir Khan. That was initially the plan before Khan lost last year
to Danny "Swift" Garcia. Right now Khan is trying to get back on
the winning track defeated the other Carlos Molina and Khan will
fight Julio Diaz next providing he defeats a major contender who
is ranked in the top 10. Floyd Mayweather should fight Amir Khan.

James "Mindgo" Kirkland hasn't fought since the controversial
win over Carlos Molina almost a year ago. There was talks of
the winner of that fight quite possibly fighting then, a former
IBF Jr. Middleweight Champion Cornelius Bundrage that didn't
happen obviously because of the way that fight being ended
controversially. So, Golden Boy Promotions offered him a fight
with Saul "El Canelo" Alvarez and he turned that fight down on
the fight purse dispute. We all know that Alfredo Angulo fights
Gabriel Rosado in a rematch on the undercard on May 4th. We
definitely gotta see James Kirkland back in the boxing ring soon.
ESPN Boxing writer Dan Rafael tweeted today" Tix for
@caneloOficial-@NoDoubtTrout likely will go on sale
Monday March 11th Richard Schaefer says tickets will
start at $10. Impressive. #boxing @SHOsports"
There are some that have surfaced online on alternate
ticket website Stubhub for triple the face value of that
actual ticket price they're selling some ringside seats in
the front rows for a pretty penny. That's too expensive
I will just wait for the actual on sale date when tickets
get released to the general public on Monday March 11.
Thanks you're a Texas native too? With less than two months for
that fight to happen I would think Golden Boy would start working
on promoting that fight already. I'm sure we will get a good crowd
to attend the boxing event. Showtime is already advertising that.
The event is actually being held locally in my area right now
the only other potential fight on the card being mentioned is
Omar Guerrero fighting at Lightweight. Showtime should really
try to promote a co-main event for the boxing card that night.
