I like John alot but he did not beat Marquez. Hometown cooking classic example.
Watch it
Yeah. I tried to go into watching it with an open mind, but that was Sven Ottke vs. Reid, Mitchell, Larsen, Markussen level egregious. The cheers every time John touched Marquez' forearm didn't help the judging either.
I literally never saw him fight, but he was always talked about. I'm still unsure if he even really existed
This fight is on YouTube, I remember hearing robbery, robbery then I sat down and watch it my self, I was shocked that the fight was close and with the deductions John actually won that fight.
But this fight has somehow become a myth that JMM was robbed, if a fight is close then it’s an insult to suggest it was a robbery. You can question some of the point deductions in most fight like this one too.
Because you don't know **** about boxing.
You are from England so you are familiar with local decisions.
Great discussion. Nice contribution like adults. Totally credit to your society and upbringing.
I saw the fight within days of it happening. I remember a f1ghtnew$ Indonesian correspondent by the name of Jeffrey Pamumgkas or something. I had to pay him via western union and that he'd burn the fight the next day and mail it. I posted my scorecard on maxboxing and plenty of folks thought I was being biased until the fight surfaced a couple weeks later and most agreed it was a robbery. I've probably seen it 5-6 times since and scored it anywhere from 10-2 in rounds to 8-4 in rounds. I think I gave John the 3rd, 4th and 11th which would be 117-111 and then the two bogus point decisions so 115-111. John also had his belt up very high and Marquez still la fed above and got called on it. Also Marquez had john buzzed and then the ref just goes to adjust some advertising that was in the ring.
 At people calling robbery. I'm sure they just hear someone say it and just repeat it without even watching the fight.
have you seen the fight?
put up your scorecard

Yeah, if you actually watch the fight, you'll see that he won, with added comfort due to JMMs point deductions. There was no hint of controversy, not from the only western journalist present or from anyone else in press row or the crowd.
The myth started much later when JMM winged about it to the Mexican fanbase.
As for John, he was a class boxer, with a solid one-two and pretty good movement, who could mix it with more offensive fighters. Funnily enough, JMM played the aggressor more often than not, as he did against Bradley, and as against Bradley, he was outboxed at times.
Along with wins over Gainer, Yordan, Juarez and a couple others, it is a very impressive career, especially adding a prime JMM to that list.
Well yeah. I guess they could have been seen as harsh but they were definitely straying low.
Either way, my point was mostly that there was a lot of close rounds, it wasn't the robbery that people say it was.
Close rounds or not, John never won that fight.
what is justified? its all subjective. if you compare marquez to ward, ward would have had ten points deducted if he was fighting john.

Saying that, i've only seen the fight once and it was after reading that JMM was robbed and when i watched it, i didn't see it..and i really like JMM.
The Chris John v JMM fight isn't the robbery that people make it out to be. Probably just people that have never even watched the fight, just repeating what they read on forums.
It was a very close fight, John was the fresher of the two towards the end and probably took the "Championship rounds". JMM did get some points deducted for low blows, twice in fact. one of the times was justified though if i remember correctly.
It was a close fight for sure, it was one of them that could've gone either way, plenty of rounds that weren't easy to score. Anybody that says it was a robbery probably never even saw it.

I saw this fight a while after it happened, def not in the same year, but it is obtainable, it's not like some rare, black and white 1930s fight. The ref in that fight was in on it, it seemed. I could only find the fight in Indonesian language (i'm guessing that's the lang). JMM won around 9 rounds imo. John was an okay fighter, he was competitive even though his resume is full of no names.
Exactly.
I have 8 rounds to Márquez clearly.
I don't think people actually watch the Chris John v JMM fight. People just read that it was a robbery and they jump on the bandwagon and run with it. I saw that fight and had zero problem with John getting the decision.

As indonesian who follow his entire career, i think his most memorable moment is when he K.O muhammad alfaridzi for the indonesian FW belt. Both are rising stars in indonesia, both debut in the same night and all indonesian boxing pundits predict this two will be rival in the years to come. That fight was the first real test for both of them. Very orthodox john Vs the talented, Flashy and hard hitting Alfaridzi. It was incredible fight John was K.D two times in the first round but manage to survive and cameback and eventually K.O gassed alfaridzi in round 12th. After that fight their career took different turns, chris john eventually became World champion but Alfaridzi career get worse riddle with off-ring substance abuse which eventually lead to his tragic death inside the ring.
You can watch their fight in youtube, it was really good fight. i'm on my phone, if someaone embed it, it will be appreciated.
