How would the canelo fight have turned out? I really think he would've won that one in a great foty type of fight. I also think a win could have opened many other doors for him. A huge trilogy fight with sergio( both would've been coming off big wins on mex independence day over popular Mexicans). Maybe Cotto instead of trout in December. Would he have had any realistic chance at finally landing the mayweather fight?
Conversely, how would a loss have affected him? I'm sure many people would be calling for his retirement after this, the Lara fight and the martinez ko. I think win lose or draw with canelo there would be a great chance of him fighting guys no one seems to want like Carlos Molina or ggg. The guy was a true warrior and boxing definitly needs more guys like him :boxing:
Canelo would have easily beaten him, sorry to say but it's true. He would have given Canelo far too many opportunities.
Yea agreed, I don't think people understand when they see a "shot" fighter, Williams am sad to say was shot, I remember watching his fight with Lara and RJJ was actually calling for him to retire after that fight. Canelo would have stopped Williams and it would have been sad to see because Williams alway bring the fight no matter what, GBP would never have made that fight if they thought Williams still had it.
he would have a win over canela
canela fights in spurts and would easily have gotten outworked by williams
the only guys that given williams trouble are southpaws. canela would not have pose that problem
He think he would have got stopped by Alvarez to be honest, he was never the same after the Martinez first fight, he takes too much shots/punishment for me in his fights and I think they all caught up with him in the second Martinez fight.
I had the privilege of seeing Paul Williams last fight live in
person ringside when Paul beat Nobuhiro Ishida in February
of last year. Nobuhiro Ishida was a quality opponent after
all he knocked out and stopped James Kirkland in an upset.
I followed Paul Williams career had Paul fought Saul Alvarez
last year in September instead of a Jr. Welterweight Josesito
Lopez I think Paul Williams would have outboxed Saul Alvarez
he did defeat a stronger, tougher opponent in his prime Tony
Antonio Margarito back in 07' that's just my personal opinion.
