BRONER VS. MALIGNAGGI MORE THAN JUST TALK; FIGHT WILL LIKELY BECOME A REALITY
Sources close to the information have informed us that there's an extremely strong possibility that undefeated lightweight champion Adrien Broner will indeed be making his welterweight debut this summer. When Richard Schaefer first suggested that Broner could potentially face WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi, some thought that the Golden Boy Promotions CEO was simply blowing hot air. Evidently, there's much more substance to his comments than what was originally thought, as it looks like Broner will indeed be jumping up two weight classes to challenge the two-division world champion on June 22 at the Barclays Center.
"That fight is going to happen," one source stated simply, but adamantly. Yet another source informed us that HBO is eager to place Broner on the fast track to becoming a pay-per-view star. "When Floyd left, HBO decided to speed things up for Adrien. I'm telling you, they fighting, and with all the trash talk those two will do, Adrien's going to come out of that fight an even bigger star," they commented. Whether or not a fight with Malignaggi will indeed make Broner a bigger star remains to be seen, however, it is a very intriguing matchup between two guys who are not shy about being on camera and voicing their opinions.
Now that Floyd Mayweather has signed a multi-fight deal with Showtime, HBO is definitely looking to create his replacement a lot sooner than originally planned. If they play their cards right, a Broner vs. Malignaggi clash could be extremely entertaining must-see TV, provided they give both fighters a platform like 24/7 to talk trash and hype the fight. The question is whether or not they would actually consider making Broner vs. Malignaggi a pay-per-view. Before you scoff at the idea, keep in mind that Floyd Mayweather's first pay-per-view fight was with Arturo Gatti, and it did 365,000 buys. Could a Broner vs. Malignaggi fight do anywhere near those numbers if it was on pay-per-view? Maybe, maybe not, but like they did with Mayweather, they have to start somewhere.
Oh man, why'd you have to add more sh*t? lol I'm telling you, bro, this move (if it happens) won't keep Broner from eventually fighting Matthysse, Garcia, and Rios. If those fights don't happen, it will be because of something else.
We could only hope so...
Tbh I don't think Golden Boy would even consider putting Broner anywhere near Matthysse, especially after he sons Peterson.
Another good comparison would be Roy Jones Jr. moving up
from Light Heavyweight to Heavyweight and defeating then
WBA Heavyweight Champion Johnny Ruiz for his crown then
shortly there after Roy Jones JR. dropped back down to his
regular weight class Light Heavyweight to fight a few times.
Come on bro, you know better than to attempt turn this into a Floyd thread..
As far as the whole "who cares about the JWW's they can move up" agenda, that's a joke right? Just think about that for a second. "Yeah I give him a pass to leap across the entire cesspool of great fighters at 140, simply because they can move up."
That's just not how this game works bro.
But on the contrary he could always move back down which I wouldn't have a problem with, though it seems unlikely since they're mentioning PPV and we all know it's all about WW+ in that category.

Don't put so much into "weight"
It matters a lot, that's why we have weight classes. There's no telling how a fighter adapts to stepping up in weight. For all we know Broner's power could be limited at WW, just as Cotto's is against legit 154lb fighters.

I'm saying that, because you're acting like he's protected there when he's not. If he was protected anywhere, it was at 135 lbs where they can't go. They can easily fight at 147 if he can. Fights can still be made between him and them. One weight class means nothing and I know you know better than that. So you liked that Floyd part I threw in there, huh? hahahaha
If it actually went through and was put on PPV, I don't see how this would be successful at all. How many buys would a fight like that even sell?
Gotta start somewhere, but a fight like this would be around 100-150k buys. Probably a little more if they could sell it to the cincy and Brooklyn people at a decent price and a decent undercard.
Its about time GB has a $40-50 PPV.
Yeah, and even if he takes a fight at 147 it doesn't mean he can't move back down. FMJ fought DLH and Cotto at 154 and moved back down a division.
Yeah, very true.
That's the trolling part. Suggesting he's trying to avoid 140 lbs fighters when they can easily move up to 147 and most of them were probably going to anyway. Don't forget Guerrero is at 147 and a lot of people say Broner ducked him. Should we assume Guerrero doesn't matter now, because Floyd is going to kick his ass anyway? So now all the sudden Guerrero is Floyd's leftovers or damaged goods? lol I can just see it now.

wow, is GB srsly considerin jumpin to 147 without facing 140 fighters? GB can kiss my ass. I feel bad for broner.

They're not 140 fighters, they're "fighters". Broner weighed in at 134 lbs in his last fight. If he can move up to 147, then so can they. :cop:
Agreed if it happens. Paulie is a lot better than anyone Broner can face at 135.
Yeah, and even if he takes a fight at 147 it doesn't mean he can't move back down. FMJ fought DLH and Cotto at 154 and moved back down a division.
Well it's basically the same road that Robert Guerrero took
to win the WBC Welterweight Title. Guerrero defeated Aydin
to win that belt last year. If Adrien Broner defeated Paulie in
that fight it's basically the same thing moving up two weight
classes to Lightweight to Welterweight. There are some good
fights that can still be made at Lightweight and he should try
to unify the division and move up before challenging someone
in a higher weight class. I wouldn't mind seeing Malignaggi get
that fight with Shane Mosley. Here are some potential fights.
Adrien "The Problem" Broner vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa
Adrien "The Problem" Broner vs. Richard Abril
Adrien "The Problem" Broner vs. Ricky Burns
Wait, what exactly am I trolling about? I simply posted an article from FH. I also noted that it's quite the occurrence how Broner will seemingly skip one of the most stacked divisions in order to fight Paulie Malignaggi on PPV.

Regardless, Malignaggi is a good test for Broner two weight classes above. People act like it's nothing to make that jump.

Most of those guys are going to end up or can easily move up to 147 anyway. Just the other day, several posters were crying how Broner was going to stay at 135 so long that by the time he moved up to 140, all the good fighters there will have moved up to 147 by then. You're acting like there's some kind of barrier Broner can pass but they can't pass. Between you and me bro, I know you're trolling, but at least be smart about it, so a guy like me don't make you look foolish in the process. lol

:lol1:
The weird thing is why the sudden move up two weight classes? Surely this has nothing to do with the top quality of fighters at 140 does it?

Broner is like 150lb+ in the ring, 24 hours after a weigh in. so he's probably walking around at 155+
Because he's young, he's able to cut down to lower weights in order to get an advantage over his opponents.
Now if he were going up to 147 to fight a guy that walked around at say 170, who cut weight similar to him, Margarito, Paul williams etc being examples, then yeah, it's a big deal.
He's not, he's fighting paulie who walks around probably the same as broner
It's two guys who if they walked past each other in the street are like the same size
Earl we pretty much said the same thing :lol1:
