All this talk in nonsense!
All this talk and all the polls mean nothing. Cintron has only lost two professional fights, both to the baddest welterweight around, Antonio Margarito. Joshua Clottey is not Margarito and he won't be able to take Cintron's power and punishment. He's never faced anyone with the power that Cintron has and when he feels it...it will be lights out. Cintron in the most underrated fighter at 147. Somehow he gets left out of the conversations of the elite in the class yet all he has done is beat everyone he's ever faced except Margarito. I'll take Cintron against ANY of the other welterweights!
Cintron by mid to late KO!
Williams is a punk!
:skull:Williams is a punk and unless he can dance and keep his distance...he doesn't stand a chance in this one! One Cintron bomb is all it will take to drop Williams. You got it right that he wouldn't be able to hold up like Margarito did...he doesn't have his chin!! He can keep crying and say that nobody will fight him...Cintron will fight him...guaranteed!
I was at this fight. N'dou got hit by Kerm's power early in the fight and literally hung on for dear life. He fought an ugly but tactical fight with no attemt to really do much of anything to Kerm. Cintron caught N'dou with a few solid shots and although he was stepping up from 140...he's one tough guy with a solid chin. He has yet to be KO'd. He was clinching, grabbing, and holding for much of the fight. Cintron fought a very solid fight and did what he had to do to win a very convincing fight.
I hope this fight is against Cintron. Like him or not, the only guy to actually beat Cintron is Margarito, same as Cotto. These 2 guys go about their business in very different ways but I'd love to see this fight to get one clear PR champion. On paper, it looks like Cotto is the guy but I really believe Cintron has yet to show us his best. If he can get some of his old "monster" back, he can not only compete with Cotto, he can beat him. That's a big "if" but I'm telling you he can do it if he comes into the ring with some of that old Cintron swagger. His words won't do it but his fists can. Keep your mouth shut and just get back to doing what you do best! Cintron vs. Cotto - make it happen.
Gary Shaw sure does look after his fighters. After Cintron completely demolished Angulo, Shaw quickly came up with the "not feeling well" storyline to keep Angulo in the mix. While I give Shaw credit for doing so, I was disappointed for Cintron who clearly deserved all the credit that night. He dominated Angulo in every way. As for Angulo's "sickness"...that's Gary Shaw being Gary Shaw. Angulo was not sick. I personally watched him parading around the boardwalk like area attached to the Hard Rock eating ice-cream and laughing with his posse...in the days before the fight. Someone who is as "sick" as Gary Shaw would make us believe Angulo was wouldn't have been doing either. So I guess I will give credit to Gary Shaw for handling his fighters the way fighters should be treated. He sure does look out for them. I'll finish however, by saying that Kermit Cintron has been mis-handled somewhere along the way. All the guy does is win and knock people out and yet we still think of him as maybe a gatekeeper? I like what Lou DiBella has done with him so far but could someone please remind people that Cintron is a true champion, someone who has only lost to one man, Antonio Margarito. If Angulo deserves to be handled well by Gary Shaw, certainly Cintron deserves to get his FULL credit for crushing him! To Kermit Cintron!
If the fight was scheduled for 15 rounds many feel Angulo would have knocked Cintron out?? Come on. Everyone, including Angulo and his team, knew it was a 12 round fight. Enough with the excuses. He wasn't sick. He knew it was a 12 round fight. Let's give Cintron his full due here. He completely dominated Angulo...period!
N'dou will go down!
Cintron won't run like Paulie did?? N'dou should hope he does. If he chooses to battle with him, Cintron will absolutely destroy him! Does he realize that Cintron is not only the hardest hitting welterweight but also one of the hardest hitters in boxing period? It will be lights out for N'dou...Count on it!
I know I'll be in the 'minority' with this one but I'm telling you this will be one hell of a fight and...I pick Cintron to win. We've barely seen the true Kermit Cintron of late and I get why you would question him but I'm here to announce that if this fight comes together not only will the true Cintron show up, he'll walk away with a victory! Not going to even try to get you to understand but I know it!
If Cotto fights Cintron next, there won't be a Cotto/Margarito rematch because Cotto will be done. If he thought Margarito had power, wait until he gets hit by Cintron. It will be lights out for the night...and maybe his career!
Margarito will DESTROY Mosley!
Listen...I love Mosley but I don't think he realizes what he's getting into here. Will he catch Margarito...Yes. Will he hurt him...NO! If Cintron and Cotto couldn't hurt him, what makes Mosely think he will be able to. Cintron connected with Margarito several times and Margarito didn't seem to flinch. I KNOW Cintron hits harder than Mosely! Just like the Cotto fight...Mosely will indeed be able to box with him for a while and yes, he will catch him with some punches. That said, the CHIN OF GRANITE will walk through anything that Sugar Shane has to offer with a smile. Eventually...and I don't think it will take as long as it did against Cotto...Margarito will take his will and destroy him. Everyone "thinks" they they know what they are getting when they face Margarito...but only once they get into the ring can they appreciate it. Look back at what the opposing fighters have said before and after their fights with him. They all are 100% sure that they will win because it looks like Margarito is just an "OK" fighter. He's not flashy, not particularly quick and even slow by some standards. The key however, is that he can take the best that anyone has to offer him and he wears them down in a most methodical method. Ok...before the Williams lovers start shouting...you had better hope that this rematch doesn't happen. Margarito started way too slowly and gave away that fight as a result. We've all seen since that fight, that he won't be making that mistake again! Margarito destroys Mosley and will quite possibly "KILL" Williams if that fight ever happens. You don't want to get Margarito pissed off...that one I know for certain!
Cintron / Clottey and undercard fight for Berto...give me a break. Both Cintron and Clottey would destroy Berto. Berto now is like Cintron before his First Margarito fight except Berto hasn't fought a "Teddy Reid" yet...If anything...Cintron / Clottey are the feature and "your fight" can set it up.... :)
This is "everything" that is WRONG with boxing. Margarito has put a huge black eye on the sport that didn't need it. With all the existing problems it already had, the last thing boxing needed was a flat our 'cheater'. You may not like it, but that is what Margarito is. Ask Cotto if a 1 year ban is all that Margarito should get. Ask Kermit Cintron. Hey, there is no "proof" that Margarito used loaded gloves against these 2 undefeated champions but I have to wonder. Am I really to believe that the Mosely fight was the first time he tried to use them? I don't think so. So, Cotto and Cintron lost fights that clearly changed the course of their careers. They lost fame, a lot of money, and some boxing cred along the way. The lost all of this to the man who we now know is a cheater. Margarito should be banned from the sport. Here is the real deal. If someone accused me of doing something I didn't do...or know about, I would clearly and loudly defend myself by saying "I didn't do it and I don't know anything about it". Those are the words we would hear from Margarito is he was the "innocent" fighter who didn't know anything was going on. However, when one is guilty and involved, you hear things like "you'll have to talk to my lawyer". What have you heard from Margarito? Enough said. He's a cheater who is guilty. He's a cheater who has negatively impacted the careers of other fighters. He a cheater, plain and simple. Boxing does not need another cheater in the ranks. I hope Margarito never boxes again. He had his chance and blew it. There is no room for him in the sport. As for Bob Arum and his most interesting way of handling this mess, well...let's just say I'm losing respect. It's not gone yet, but I'm losing it. As for Margarito, it's gone. He's a bum and a cheat!
Cotto/Cintron
Let's make the Cotto /Cintron fight happen first. Before we send Cotto back into the ring to get demolished by Margarito again...let's see if he hold up to Cintron. I've been saying a long time that Cotto isn't even the best welterweight from Puerto Rico, yet alone the world as many thought before he took the beating from Margarito. I'd love to see this fight. I think Cintron would knock him out. Cotto is a great boxer but I'm telling you right now that when Cintron lands even one of the shots he hit Margarito with...it will be lights out for Cotto. Cintron hits a lot harder than Margarito and Cotto's chin is nowhere near what Margarito's is. Let's hope this fight happens. I can't wait to see it!:boxing:
Cintron / N'dou
I love this fight. Well written article that hits all the points. N'dou has NEVER been in the ring with anyone who has power like Cintron. At 147, he hits like a heavyweight 27KO's in his 29 victories. And...while you may say the only guys on the list with a "name" are Teddy Reid and Margarito, every fight we all hear the same thing. Go back and check the 'pre-fight' analysis of the Matthysse fight. Many of the so-called "experts" were saying it would be a very tough night for Cintron. Then, after he absolutely demolishes him, those same "experts" don't give him his due?? Go figure! Anyway, the only guy who has presented a problem for Cintron is Margarito and until they face each other again, I'll take my chances with Cintron against anyone else!
Cintron - March 22nd
I think if Kermit Cintron wants to lace them up and fight again then that's exactly what he should do. There are so many 'critics' in the world who feel 'they' know what someone else should do but only Cintron really knows. I say screw the critics in life and be courageous enough to be true to yourself. Be strong enough to do what 'you' want to do. The critics will always be there to point out their pathetic point of view from the sidelines but only the courageous warriors actually dare to enter the ring and fight! I give Cintron my full support and hope he continues to go after his dreams and ambitions. I actually support anyone, in any endeavor, who has the courage to go for it. In a world where it's a whole lot easier to just quit and listen to the naysayers, it takes a champion to go for it! Wishing Cintron nothing but success on the 22nd!
Cintron vs. Cotto is the fight people deserve!
Cintron has been questioned since his first loss to Margarito as to whether or not he has it to be at the very top level. When he made the Margarito 2 fight happen and then lost again, a lot of people wrote him off. They wrote him off until the "next big thing" ...Cotto...also got a taste of Antonio Margarito. Cintron's only losses are to the same guy who beat Cotto down. Let's get Cintron vs. Cotto first and the winner making the next step forward. Cintron vs. Cotto gives us the dominant Puerto Rican fighter in the division and the one who might just be the "next best" other than Margarito. Make it happen Bob Arum. Fighting the "up and comer" does nothing for Cotto but maybe rebuild his confidence a bit. If he's still all you think and have said he is...let's find out. Put him in there with Cintron and let's get it on!
I agree this appears to be a "gutsy" move by Cintron but quite honestly, it's what he has to do. If you do the math, before Molina he fought 3.5 competitive rounds in 18 months. I'm sorry but very few if any fighters can take that long off and come back sharp. I'm told he had a good camp but there is nothing that can replace actual fight rounds. Cintron has always been better when he's been busy. I'm predicting he destroys Smith and keeps busy as he climbs right back into contention. I give him full props for getting right back in the ring. I'm positive we'll all see a very different Kermit Cintron this fight.
Cotto / Cintron !!
What a great way to start 2009. If Arum is serious about this fight for Cotto I say make it happen. I'd love to see the 2 former champs, both from Puerto Rico, help sort things out. Having both lost to Margarito, they should sort themselves out and then let the winner move on. I know on paper most would say that Cotto is the clear cut favorite, but I wouldn't bet against Cintron. His only losses have been to the same man who methodically wore down Cotto and ending up demolishing him in brutal fashion - Antonio Margarito. I hope Arum and DiBella can make this happen. I'm sure Cotto and Cintron would want the fight both being fighters who don't run away from a challenge. Make 09 a great year of fights and make this one happen!
Give Me A Break!
Andre Berto the best? Give me a break! Truthfully, he's not even in the top 5...maybe the top 10. I believe that he "thinks" he is the best...and I guess that is okay for now (he may as well think he's better than he is) but...one fight in with a real welterweight and he'll be on the canvas looking at the lights. Does he really think he can beat Margarito, Cotto, Cintron, Williams, and the list goes on. Give me a break. Margarito would own him. Cotto would beat him handily. Cintron would quite possibly end his career and Williams would have it difficult for Berto to even hit him. Andre Berto is a flash in the fight game and right now, his flash is still shining. Please don't even start to try to make this guy the "real deal". When he gets in the ring with a big, or legitimate welterweight...he'll be second guessing his career choice!
I really couldn't care less about this fight. Berto is never going to be a serious player in the current welterweight mix and might lose this fight. If I were Lou D. I would get his true horse moving better...that horse is his true champion...Kermit Cintron!
Cintron is certainly not soft. His only losses are to Margarito...how does that make him soft? I guess Cotto is soft then too? I'm being sarcastic of course...to lose to Margarito is frustrating because he just looks like a guy you should be able to beat but...I think he's proven...not just against Cintron but most recently Cotto that he's a very tough fight for anyone. You simply can't hurt this guy!
I can only "HOPE" that DiBella is showing a smoke screen on this one. Berto's young and promising career will be destoyed if he faces Mosley. I love that he's saying Berto is ready and willing but...hope he (DiBella) is just "doing his job". The guy in his stable who should fight Mosley, and who is actually ready for such a fight, is Kermit Cintron. Cintron is battle tested and has faced more adversity in his life than most will face in a life time. One of the things I love in sports, and in particular boxing, is how a guy can sometimes make 180 degree turn-a-rounds under the "right" guidance. I don't know why or how- but make no mistake about it...Cintron is turning into the fighter many always thought he could be under the guidance of Ronnie Shields. Something is happening- something very "real". Cintron is turning into a total package, not just a big brawler. Against Angulo, Cintron was dominating and while I realize Angulo is NOT Mosley, Cintron "IS" the fighter who is actually ready for a test like Mosley! Make it happen Lou. If you need to keep talking about Berto to "do your job"...then do it and do it well but when the chips are down, do what is right for both of your fighters. Buy some well needed time for your young champion Berto and secure the fight for your ready and able star - Kermit Cintron.
Hey...Angulo can say what he wants to say now and I get it. This is all part of the business. A guy loses and fight and he has to do whatever he can to save face and keep his career moving forward. While I respect Angulo as a fighter, I have to say I hate all the "no excuses...but". If there are no excuses end it there. There's no need to continue with a but... That is and excuse. I don't know if there is "ANY" truth to the stomach virus etc. What I do "KNOW" is that he was walking the boardwalk area next to the HardRock with his posse and he was smiling, laughing and eating ice cream. This was before the fight! If someone had a stomach virus and was so ill I wouldn't expect to see them eating ice cream and laughing as he walked all around the area. I personally saw this. There is no "maybe" on this. It is fact. I'm not buying into the stomach thing at all. Give Cintron his full due!
Cintron did what few others would dare to do. He stepped up to 154 to face Martinez, a guy many were calling the real deal at 154. Hey, he thought he was head butted but now knows he wasn't. It amazes me how everyone crucifies him for this. In the heat of the action he was hit, not really hurt, but actually thought he had been hit with the head of Martinez. So what. He fought back and actually took a few rounds after the 7th. Go back and watch the fight and tell me that Cintron didn't win all of the early rounds (1-4). He did. Hey, this wasn't Cintron's best but he was competitive, landed a few hard punches (more than Martinez did) and now knows and accepts the draw. The fact is this. The only guy still to beat Cintron as a pro is Margarito. That's the same for Cotto and the same for Martinez. For some reason, people seem to want to lower Cintron but to me, he's still a work in progress with a huge upside. Nothing has changed in my mind. He can still go in and bang with anyone at 147. I'd love to see the Cotto Cintron fight and will definitely buy it.
Props To Cintron!
While many may wonder why a guy would want to fight a guy like Margarito a 3rd time, this writer finds it most admirable. Most fighters today run from a true challenge and I find it refreshing to find someone, Cintron, who isn't afraid to try again!
Now, whether Margarito would want it or whether the public would want it remains to be seen. I don't know if the fight ever takes place or not, but I give Cintron props for being ready for it if it presents itself.
As for the other list of possible opponents, I think Cintron could hold his own and most likely win against any of the other welterweights out there. He's big, strong, determined and has KO power like no one else! 29-2 with 27 KO's is not bad and let's not forget that his ONLY 2 losses are to a guy named Margarito!
Take care of business with N'Dou and then we'll be ready to see you against any and all in the division and keep that attitude of being ready, willing, and able to fight anyone. I love it!
