I think it'd be razor close fight since Lara is content to box from outside and try to be cute and look pretty in his fights. He's got loads of talent but little heart. And I'm a huge fan
SRR was a huge POS and most insiders knew it. He squandered away most of his purse money on cars, women, and booze most likely and probably beat his wife down when they argued over his constant womanizing. But his skill speaks for itself so yes peeps give him a pass
Regarding Cassius, bc I refuse to call him Al! out of my disrespect for this guy, he sucks as a man. I can look past Vietnam but can't ignore treatment of Liston, Frazier, or Foreman. Glad he's got Parkinson's because karma is the biggest ***** you'll ever get f@cked by
He may or may not be. Fact is 140, 147, 154 are deeper divisions. Martinez is pushing 40 for f#ck's sake. He'll probably fight GGG and lose due to age. But in this day & age the top fighters never face all the dangerous opponents out there. Quillin & GGG may never even meet. I dont think people are scared of GGG...though it cracks my ass up to hear macho wannabes claiming that
Let's look at Roy's first 2 knockout losses: Tarver & G. Johnson in '04 correct? How old was Roy? Was he shot or something? At 34-35? That's young in LHW. And considering the limited punishment suffered prior to those losses you have to question his chin...while still a relatively young man.
I grew up watching him & never liked his ****iness. But I realize his power & reflexes were freakish. His fundamentals were not. His game never really evolved but he was pretty good. Ward beats him in their primes
Of course it is trollin. Didn't you catch all the "...but they coulda fought at 154 DOE...he was ready DOE....---DOE..."
He's trying to stir that pot of hate...DOE !! The real reason is Sergio is way too big. Mismatch Doe!
1. Don King
2. Jim Gray
3. All the hanger-on types...specifically there's 2 guys that are twins in late 20's/early 30s and their father who they look a lot like...these 3 guys are affiliated with some promoter just can't recall who. Definition of a hanger on
Fiddy is diarrhea. Please deliver this subhuman to the nearest lion's den. Just read up on Dr Dre and how 25 scrint no longer associate. He burns bridges because he's not 1/2 the person that even FMW is
I say BJS / Canelo looks similar to Lara / Canelo, but with BJS running less than Lara did in 2nd half. I think he would beat Jacobs by unanimous decision and possibly drop him in the early rounds. I've never been too high on Jacobs -- but I think he is a solid fighter and definitely a great person. I've just never viewed him as one of the top 2 guys in the division.
I have felt Jacobs will fold since this was first announced. IDK, it may look different when they fight....but I think Red Ranger will be tearing up that body like he tore up those tainted meat street tacos. Jacobs is on the beginning of a fighter's decline, but I'm still a fan -- dude is classy and humble. Nice guy, too
He could beat Bivol and Gvoz with rough housing and extra elbows like Beterbiev was...er....DOES USE!!! Ward and Beter man would be the dirtiest fight at LHW ever!! Ward could not take those power shots for 12 rds IMHO.
Two dream fights that never even happened were Adonis vs. Kovalev and Adonis vs Ward. THOSE would have been epic!!!
Geez some harsh ass words against people's harmless opinions. George fared well against certain opponents...like his schooling of Frazier 2X. Besides Ali, I believe a few other guys gave him troubles. In his prime Big George was much worse technically than in his 80s-90s run. A shame really. Holmes was much better overall champion but few had the power that Foreman possessed.
No, he'd lose vs Vitali, Lennox, and Holmes in his prime. Perhaps a few more guys. I think he beats Tyson though.
A lot of talking from GGG as usual but when is this guy going to fight somebody good for once?
Amen. Do people truly believe Sergio is scared of Gennady? That's ignorant. He's fought plenty of dangerous punchers and a few guys that are naturally bigger than he or GGG. I like all 3 of these fighters but Gman is only one who's fought mostly clowns honestly. He gets hit a lot from what I see and needs more defense. Curtis Stevens landed couple good flush shots that stopped his progress momentarily. Fight a couple legit guys and then we'll talk
Dawson quite diff't opponent than Adon. Way diff't. He had too much length and accuracy for Hops. Adonis caught him very cleanly but Chad had been hurt numerous fights prior to this. Hopkins can beat Adon but probably a slight under dog. Don't get exaggerated
So much negativity
I'm convinced 90% of folks posting negative comments are either super young, or just started keeping up with boxing 2-3 yrs ago. I don't understand all of the hate. And the "diva" comments.....man, do any of you realize how much criticism Canelo has heard throughout his entire career? That's where the chip on his shoulder comes from. He's made a lot of fights, but no matter who he challenges and defeats -- there is criticism. Kovalev is not the weakest at 175....no one has really watched Bivol against top level competition. Or Beterbiev/Gvozdyk for that matter. We don't know if Kovalev could glide to a decision or not against these guys.....Bivol is not a real dangerous power puncher....He's fast and seems fundamentally sound. Beterbiev seems one-dimensional and Gvoz is strong and all-around above average, but let's not call any of those 3 elites just yet.
Does anyone really believe Derevchenko could beat Canelo? C'mon guys, just like Jacobs was going to and didn't really impress anyone -- although he had height, reach, size, etc. as advantages over Canelo. Does anyone believe Andrade or the Charlo wimp (at MW, I forget who's who) could fight Kovalev and NOT get their arse kicked badly? C'mon people, study up on this sport more extensively before making unfounded comments. And finally, who really believes Charlo or Boo Boo would win against Canelo?
The man was born to box and it's taken me a LONG TIME to become just a casual fan, but he's an All-Time Great already. Don't be so salty!!!! His time will pass soon enough, and someone else will be the top MW of their era
The question now should be who will end up being considered the top HW of this era when it's all said & done? Fury or Wilder? There's no way AJ can take Wilder's best fastball over 12 rounds; he's just too chinny. As far as Fury vs. AJ, we already know who's the much better boxer, as well as who is there to always get touched each round.
sergio will hurt the other knee on purpose then:lol1:
No I doubt SM is scared of little boy Floyd. Is there any doubt Sergio of 2009-2012 would've been too strong, too tall and fast, and too skilled for Floyd to pitter patter and dance with? Sergio isn't even a real MW as his frame is pretty small. Floyd is great but he's not exactly facing big hitters like Paul Williams, Pavlik, and man-child Chavez...Floyd fights short guys with short reaches.
Thurman looked like the 40 going-on 41 yr.old tonight. He was -- at numerous times -- getting clowned on by the older, shorter, smaller, aging warrior who has three (3) full career's worth of mileage on his body. I like Keith, and Pacquiao, also, about the same: I think they're both good guys and the pre-fight trash talk from Thurman was really surprising; maybe he was looking to motivate himself since the general consensus was that even this version of Pac-man (in the closing chapters of his career) was the safer bet in this matchup. I thought Thurman would win by late stoppage, but he looked stunned -- physically, of course -- but his facial expressions from about Rd. 3 or 4 onward were not what you'd normally be seeing from a world-class, undefeated, top fighter in his weight class and in his physical prime years. He looked scared and hurt.
How great WAS the Manny of a decade ago? Way, way, way too good for any version of Keith Thurman -- with a stoppage to One-Time most likely the result. How good IS the Manny we saw tonight? Clearly better than this version of Thurman -- which is what a true fan of boxing should care about at the moment. Layoff, or pay off? The layoff is over and at just 30, in his physical prime, I expected more. Maybe we should have expected this, given the Collazo fight (the body shot that he ate badly), the Guerreo fight (Ghost making a strong come back late, even after all that punishment from Keith), and obviously the Josesito near-disaster outcome.
Bud Crawford or Errol Spence? Thurman knows deep down inside that they are on a slightly higher level, at the very least. On the other side of the spectrum, maybe Keith Thurman knows his career will be derailed by either guy -- it's just a shame that the beginning of the end took place in Vegas tonight.
He knows Andy has those fast hands, fast reflexes, and great chin. Plus, they are nearly the same height. BAD matchup for Usyk. OTOH, he knows AJ has those telegraphed punches, slow reflexes, and a British boxer's chin (see Frank Bruno, Khan, Rickie Hatton for quick reference). This Usyk guy, he's a smart fella
Not a fan bc of his perceived attitude--which is bad--but think he's a dangerous fighter. Plus, he improved dramatically under Steward. Take into account he hasn't been fighting near as long as others due to late start.
Steward turned him into better fighter but not sure his successor trainers (Stewards nephew?)can keep Adonis on an upward trend. He may have plateaud so to speak. Plus he doesn't even live in USA unlike Kovalev. How many Americans were HUGE fans of Calzaghe, Frank Bruno, Ricky Hatton, David Haye, Corey Sanders?
.
Late to this discussion, but wanted to chime in. Not a Charlo Bros. fan and never will be: they don't even pass the eye test for me in their fights; I see nuthin' special with either one of them. That all being said, let me be frank: ain't nobody scared of Matt K. ! The first fight was watchable, but I saw MK wearing down pretty much to nothing left in the energy tank in the "championship rounds". He was sharp early on, and I think Charlo was a little scared to open up his arsenal (as weak as it may look to some folks) and show his pedigree. A rematch would be much more convincing win for Charlo and hopefully it will never take place....instead, allowing us to hopefully (in due time) watch matchups with Andrade, BJS, Canelo, and Jacobs against Charlo
I don't want to criticize AJ too much, because I know he's a very good HW and also, everyone has an off night or three....In addition, one of the best HWs in my lifetime -- Lennox Lewis -- was KTFO not just once but TWICE, and still had an amazing career.
What I do see though is AJ getting beat up by Wladimir and Ruiz in the same rounds that he had them in, what appeared to be, very serious trouble. How does that happen to an elite multiple times? My theory is that he overtrains and falsely believes that he is at his very best -- boxing-wise -- when his physique looks nearly flawless. Maybe he needs to cut down on the cardio. Maybe he needs to lift weights less, and spend more time on the heavy bag or speed bag. Maybe he needs to eat more fatty meats and not cut carbs so much.
And then there is this, at least with Ruiz: I have a feeling that this kid is strong as an ox. The type of guy you'd rather not have to handle by yourself in a dark alley. Not that Joshua would be anything less than a nightmare for the average guy to deal with, but his head doesn't seem to be nearly as hard as this Ruiz kid's noggin. Haha. A well placed headbutt would probably get AJ on the ground for a spell....
I've been a casual fan/supporter of Lara since his 2011 domination and historic robbery vs. P. Williams. I love an underdog, and slick southpaw fighters are pretty much my faves to follow & root for. But
I would tell Erislandy "my man, you're just not a great fighter. But you're pretty darn good. I wish you hadn't wasted most of your athletic prime by taking far too few bouts each year against a number of progressively decreasing talent fighters - which always left you overmatched against your top level peers." he's only 34...no excuses whatsoever. Does anyone still believe Golovokin would have had the slightest difficulty against Lara? This is an older fighter in GGG, so enough with the Lara excuses. His biggest career wins came against Paul Williams and Trout. He dropped the ball against Canelo, was retreating and avoiding exchanges so obviously as that fight wore on, and don't forget he got badly, badly cut (for 1St time in his career) by a routine Canelo uppercut to begin a round. All that crappie he talked about Canelo and what should have been his career springboard ended up being the pinnacle -- and inevitable decline (by his.own fault) into mediocrity.
If we are judging talent levels, for simplification, by either A, B, & C grading scale - it's not reasonable to say Lara was anything more or less than "B". And he did it to himself by fighting nobodies for 3-4 straight years --> one bout per year AT THAT!
Sorry I haven't followed boxing closely this year, the few bouts there has actually been, so not up to speed like a lot of the regulars here. But....is this really a possible matchup with Canelo and Plant? I read the Eddie Reynoso (spelling?) comment yesterday and at the end of it he mentioned Plant as a December opponent. That would be a GREAT FIGHT, and I'd actually think Plant would present many problems for Canelo. We'll see if it happens or not
Idiotic potential fight. Makes zero sense for either fighter. Kov is on the downward slope of his career and has always fought other LHW fighters....and is trying to win all belts back. Canelo is near the peak of his career and still has unfinished business at MW, or a couple of great fights at SMW if he (all 5'8" of him, in cowboy boots) really wants to fight higher weight class fighters. Why go for Sergey? Just ******ed IMHO
Dang lotta hate for Ruslan seems like on here. Maybe he promised his mom that he'd quit and pursue a degree or something. Know he's close to his mom. He's not the best by far but really a decent fighter. Not everyone can have the best reflexes and speed to defend themselves.
He's certainly been more successful in his career than anyone from Serbia ever go him a chance to be. He's achieved more in his career than I've in my career as a C.P.A. Perhaps I'm in company of millionaires on this forum
Can you be racist against a person of the same race? 🤔
Late reply on this comment, but the word is "prejudice" not "racist" as it relates to your own race....and yes, you can be prejudice against someone (from your own race/ethnicity)
I don't stay on this site too often, but tell me no one else is aware of resemblance between the super-strong bad guy on Superman II, and Artur Beterbiev??? https://www.thewrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/non-superman2.jpg
