Vanes still has a lot to learn before he can challenge Martinez, don't forget Martinez has almost twice as many fights as Vanes. Not Now and definitely not Martinez. I think he can give vanes the most trouble in the weight class. plenty of other good fights out there that I like Vanes in. he definitely beats Spinks, definitely beats any other prospect in the division. no need to rush him to Martinez at this point. this kid has a wealth of talent and its gonna take a little more to get him to the level of Martinez.

I agree with you that this is not much of a test. but please be objective here. As far as I could remember the last opponent that Vanes beat with pretty much one hand just beat John Duddy, who I know is overrated. but that should tell you something about vanes' abilities. Billy Lyell outclassed and outboxed John Duddy who was in line to face Pavlik and Vanes beat him easily with a jammed hand.
This is a tune up fight and this year Vanes will be tested. Look for him on the Pavlik/Mora undercard as he will be taking on someone that everyone would consider as a huge step up.
Vanes has the most sheer talent of any prospect in this weight class. Remember he still only has 4 fights with Ronnie in his corner. Its a transition period for a young fighter who for 17 fights was fighting Freddie Roach style and is having to switch it up in the middle of his career. A few more fights under his belt under Ronnie, EVERYONE will be talking about Vanes and Kirkland and Angulo will both be ducking him in and out of the ring!!!

Vanes hasn't used roach recently and doesn't show up at wild card anymore. He's been trainig with a new up and coming trainer out Glendale Fighting Club gym (Edmond tarverdyan), so that won't be an issue.
