The war of words between Vanes Martirosyan and Sergio Martinez is heating up. Earlier today on BoxingScene.com, Vanes continued where he left off a few weeks ago and fired off some verbal shots on Martinez.

Martinez’s promoter Lou DiBella contacted BoxingScene to intervene with a challenge of his own. DiBella said the fight can be easily made with a simple phone call from Top Rank, who promote Vanes.

“I think Vanes is a decent prospect. He’s got an awful big mouth for a guy who’s never beaten anyone, never held a belt and probably never will. If he really wanted any part of Martinez, then I would have respect for him because he would be calling out one of the best champions in the sport,” DiBella said.

“If he’s serious, then get [manager] Shelly Finkel or Top Rank, who are his promoters, to make it clear that they want the fight. Get Top Rank to reach out to me. He knows Shelly won’t let his little Vanes fight Sergio Martinez and as a result of that Top Rank is not making any phone calls.”

“Until I get a phone call, indicating that his people really want to make deal, then he should shut the f*ck up. And if his people really want to make a deal, he’s deserving of the opportunity and it can be built into a big fight but if you are going to hide behind the Finkster and your promoter - then shut up. The WBC would love to sanction a defense of the title. If he and his promoter want that fight, I’m sure the fight would find a home.[on television]. It’s put up or shut up.”
