It could have gone either way to me. I think De La Hoya's last round rally is what got him the win, he had Quartey on the ropes and was punching away at him. If Quartey kept things in the middle of the ring in the last round he probably would have won.
You took the words out my mouth. In this business, It's not how you start, but how you finish. Look people, some judges tend to score the round of a fight differently. To say this was Highway robbery is just ignorant. Now Chavez Vs Whitaker, that's Highway Robbery.
Im mexican not chicano so im rooting for the guy that is more mexican in this fight manny
You are not Mexican!!!! Look at Your fav list. You got JMM listed as 3rd & your sporting a PR pic.
The posters on the forum, who are you guys rooting for? A lot of mexican boxers are backing pacquiao and I wanted to know if the posters are going the same way.
I am rooting for De La Hoya
DLH all the way homie. The majority of Mexican boxers who are rooting for Pac, either never got the Opportunity to fight DLH & make a big paycheck, or got ****ed up by DLH. Being Mexican is about backing up your people, the majority of Mexicans I know rooting for Pac hate DLH cuz he ****ed up the most over rated boxer in the history of the sport, "Top Of Da Food Chain" ass Vargas. Mexicans tend to treat DLH like Miklo from Blood In Blood Out, cuz he doesn't look or talk like he's from East L.A. Keep in mind, Manny Pac made a CD & likes to sing like a lady too!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't hear anyone knocking his street cred.
DLT, you are the one person I respect the most as a
poster....You never limit your post to a few lines to appeal to less
avid readers on this site and i respect that tremendously.
You are the only poster i will say that probably knows more about
boxing then myself when it comes to any fighter and topic. I know i talk about floyd alot, but talking about floyd is a sidenote from talking about boxing, and i talk about boxing even more in real life.
and you my friend talk about boxing. MUCH RESPECT to probably the best poster on this site..
-horus
get off da nutz homie. Just knowing he's a Manny P. fan from the get-go makes his opinion a conflict of interest. This fight could have gone either way, live with it.
you forget he fought, Chavez, Whitaker, Mosley, Vargas, Trinidad, Mayweather, Strum, Gatti, Mayorga, Quartey, Hopkins etc... Win Lose or draw thats a good enough resume to be called a warrior.
I agree w/y mang. Look, let's keep it real. Oscar chooses his tune up fights, we all know this. Keep in mind, He's fought the P4P champ, or otherwise known as the peoples champ, more than once. Trinidad, Hopkins, Mayweather, & Pac. These opponents have chased him for the opportunity as well.
DLH isn't Mexican, he's Mexican-American :usa: :D
But seriously, it's just a sport. Y'all motha f*ckas be taking this shit too seriously.
Your right He Is. I'm Mexican-American myself, but to Corporate America & Human Resources, I'm Considered "Mexican." Think about it, If you saw me walking down the street & you thought about my nationality, what would you think, or say? He's Mexican!!!!!!!! Being Mexican isn't about borders, it's about keeping your values & knowing where you came from. It's about Tamales on Christmas Eve, & visiting the pueblo your people came from. I know DLH knows his history. Look @ the Irony in this fight, DLH is fighting a Paisa, lol.......
Styles Make Fights
C'mon now my fellow Boxingscene Alumni. I pride myself in knowing I'm a part of something special. Boxingscene.com, is by far the most respected boxing website on the web, so with that being said, let's stop comparing or debating about what Pavlik & Calzaghe would do to eachother. I'm a Yank to the Core, but give credit to where credit is due. Calzaghe outworked B-Hop, point blank. I thought Pavlik would wear down B-Hop, but that wasn't the case. As much as I dislike the record & venues Calzaghe has fought in, he's always came through & outworked his toughest opponents. I'm a Yank from Los Angeles, & have never been a Calzaghe fan, don't even think I spelled it right, but give the man some credit. We all thought Pavlik was gonna win an easy decision, maybe Cal saw something we didnt.
Bigger puncher beat smaller boxer. I love Canelo but I'm not impressed with this knockout. Bring on GGG and win or lose, give the people what they want. Don't be a mitch like Floyd and deny the v world a super fight in yOur prime.
Pacquiao didn't get a concussion from that shot and he looks good and healthy. He's ready to go again.
I agree he was in the best shape I've seen since Dela Hoya in that fight. Going into the 6th and just pounding Marquez' face and with blood pouring out of the nostrils he figured there was 1 or 2 rounds left. Marquez in the meantime admitted that Manny could knock him out at anytime. A desperate Marquez making a desperate move ended up landing the perfect shot as Manny went for the kill. Even though Manny could have eased up and took his time since Marquez was already in trouble with the broken nose and blood pouring out and affecting his breathing. Manny being Manny takes the risk anyways. What can you not love about that?
His nose wasn't broken, and He wasn't desperate. It was a timed accurate counter punch. Give credit where credit is due.
Damn it, Bozo, you beat me to it!
It was a perfect punch! SWEET! Although I'm very disappointed that Corrales lost, I'm glad BobPac pulled it off LOL.
Great shot. Im surprised he didnt spit out his mouthpiece. By the way, BobPac didnt pull it off, the judges did. Pac lost & im pretty sure you thought he lost before the scorecards were read.
Hell yeah. I'll see you there. Im going to the fight with my brother & some friends. I'll post my pics from the Hopkins Taylor fight tomorrow afternoon. Chico & Castillo, I'll see you there homie. I'll give you seat number's by next week. I still got to figure out how many of us are going.
Just out of curiosity, why is everyone on your Team Truth, African American? I think in a sense a lot of boxing fans do tend to go for a fighter from thier country or ethnicity.
JPW....
I think a more mature Nelson would have defeated Sanchez.
Nelson developed into such a well-rounded fighter.
it would have been great to see both of them fight again, he died 2 weeks after the fight with nelson at the age of 23. Who knows what he could have done if he had not died.
Great fight. I think the contender was good for boxing. I work for an Insurance company & the amount of people that were drawn to this show from my job surprised me. Hopefully this will give boxing the attention it deserves. Do any of you think the highlights will make sportscenter?
Roy slowed down in his mid thirties, you cant compare that with Mayweather who is definately in his prime in his mid twenties. I think it would be a greqt fight, Mayweather by decision.

On the 2nd knockdown, the ref counted to 9 & gave a point deduction for spitting out the mouthpiece. i just saw the fight again & Chico had an extra 20-25 seconds, not including the 9 seconds counted for the knockdown.
forget all the other times because he was still alright but the last time was different. On that last knock down he was really hurt but those extra few seconds gave him some time and he seemed like he was alright after that. I could be wrong but I actually think that those 15 seconds or so was the difference in this fight because if he wouldve went straight back in after that last knock down I think Castillo may have dropped him again and the ref wouldve stopped it. Hard to tell though
I'm a Pacfan and I thought the fight was way better than victories against Mira, Larios, Lucero, Barrera 1 & 2, Morales 2 & 3, Velasquez, Marquez 2 & 3, Diaz, Dela Hoya, and Margarito!
If I missed any Mexican in the list that Pac defeated I'm sure Marquez's devastating knockout of Pacquiao absolves all those defeats. Holy Marquez! :headbang:
I neve liked the Mexican assassin term. Mexicans are the majority in these divisions. We don't label anyone the "Caucasian Conquistador" or the "Black Bomber" or the Asian Annihilator. Marquez has beat more mexicans than Manny, doesn't make him the brown on brown beater, lol. You can make an argument for all the big names he fought. Barerra, p4p, but shot after his previous wars, morales weight drained in the 3rd fight, DLH, and Marg, weight drained and at catch weights. Lets be real, Marquez has pac figured out, and vice versa. Fights could have gone either way.
Just becasue the judges scored it an SD, doesnt mean it really was an SD.
Everyone knows that fight wasnt nearly that close.
I love DLH, but truth be told, he has edged out as many fights as he as lost. I will give him the respect a true the public desires to see. That being said, I'll take a 34 yr old DLH over a late twenties Ricky Hatton, or a mid twenties Miguel Cotto.
Ride For Your Boy, or Shut Da Hell Up!!!!!
Look Folks. If your a Pac fan then ride for Pac, stop talking about why De La Hoya is taking this fight to pic on the little man, etc. Why not focus on why Manny is taking the fight. Maybe he feels as if he can win, who knows. So for all you Pac fans quick to say, Oscar is taking this fight cuz he's the bigger boxer & is looking for an easy way out, don't ever say shit on this boxing site anymore if Pac pulls it off. You'll look like blasphomous idiots. Keep in mind, when De La Hoya fought B.Hop, everyone knew they fought for the money & judged De La Hoya for quitting on that body punch. What's the difference between B.Hop & De La Hoya? B. Hop obviously was successful in his 2 biggest victories against smaller men, (Trinidad, & De La Hoya). So blame your boy Pac for choosing the $$$ the same way De La Hoya has been treated all his life.

This is Johnny Tapia sayin wassup to my boxingscene people. My lil primo analyst speaks the truth!!!!!!!!!!
marquez is a cheap fighter who keeps on crying that he beat pacquiao twice. a "C" class fighter who considers himself as one of the best. even if he beats PBF it means nothing coz for me PBF is nobody ( a lil higher than marquez). pacquiao can gain nothing from him. marquez should be man enough to accept defeat
Default
Wow!!!!!! A "C" class fighter? You must be a youngster, or a Novice when it comes to boxing my friend. You need to put down the pipe yo. I guarantee if you ask Pac who his toughest opponent has been in his illustrious career, he'd say Marquez. Correct me if I'm wrong Youngster.
