I am proud of both fighters. They are what boxing is all about. Taking on all comers and wanting a war in the ring. Cotto needs to be carefull the early rounds but should win the fight. More tech. sound boxer and brawler. The size difference is what I'm concerned about. People question his chin.....That's how you judge a fighter. He has always come back from being in the trenches of being hurt to find a way to win. If I can define Cotto it would be "relentless!"
Of course he wasn't the same guy. Anybody would have a bit taken out of him after a beating like he took from Marg. Not only physical but mentally too. Marg also lost a step from that fight. There's no doubt in my eyes his hands were loaded in that fight by the way. The biggest reason Cotto never looked the same is due to his corner situation. I assure you come June when he has Stew in his corner he will look like he was re-birthed! This will be the a new chapter and a strong one @ that. He has a few more strong fights in him.

He will be the first one to admit if he fought Toney in the boxing ring he would have litttle to no chance to win. Boxing is my #1 sport. I respect all combat sports though. Why are there so many boxing fans out there that are haters..lol...I just dont get it?
Toney is nothing more than an old out of shape loud mouth who is in for a fight in which his opponent may just toy with him (on the ground). I don't know what makes him think he can step into the UFC and face one of the top dawgs. Like Dana White said, they're going to make an example of James Toney.

Dana White is very aware that he's got a big name in there that he's light years past his prime. I respect Toney for giving it a shot though. That's if he comes in shape. Toney got a punchers chance in there. If he can keep it standing up for as long as possible he'll be fine but im pretty sure Couture is going to launch for the takedown as soon as the fight starts. I cant see anything other then Couture choking Toney out.
You know, Toney is not the right guy to represent "the sport of boxing" for the Octogon. I'll tell you who is though. If Mayweather, Pacman, Berto...that type of quick handed fighter with 6 months of Brazilian J-J training and a good sprawl would own the UFC belt in their weight divisions.....Kermit Cintrón also was a great College Wrestler. He would do great too. That goes to show you, to be a MMA champ doesn't take great skill in all of the skills of combat. You just need to be great at one and ok in the others....Hand striking is the most lethal if your great at it.
As you know,...When Margarito was caught with the plaster it was still damp. When he fought Cotto, he was loosing the first half of the fight. It's amazing how fast Cotto's face was ripped apart and swollen in a matter of a few rounds, of course due to the plaster finaly hardening. Go back and watch the fight..Between rounds Margaritos cornermen ask how his hands feel. Their conversation tends to lead towards the hardening of the wraps. I don't recall what round but it was the first half of the fight. Check it!

You know, I have some mixed feelings about this. I want to forgive people for their mistakes. I feel Margarito knew about the wraps all along. I feel he used them in other fights, for sure the Cotto fight. I lost much respect for him but always will respect his "will" in the battles he's had. No way he should have an opportunity to fight sooner than his year sentence! I think Roach could teach him some self respect by being his trainer and show him how he can make an honest mans living in this sport by being a man and using his fighting talents. The Commish should void his record and let's see if Roach can make this 0and 0 fighter a real man and a real force in the sport.
the fight was a great way to start the year! I had Collazo winning by a two point margin. Berto was the champion, so I could see how some close rounds could have went his way but shit! 116 to 111. This is what shames boxing. If boxing doesn't get rid of these guys quickly, boxing will loose it's fans quickly. It's getting retarded at this point.

This is going to be a great fight! Mosley will be the champ at the end of the night. Too many people are hanging on to Margaritos win over Cotto. That was his special night. Cotto will beat him in #2 also. Yes I said it! Margarito is going to have a year starting off with two losses...I'm not hating either. I respect Margarito as a fighter. Has a hart of a lion. When hurt, he's recovered. timming great! Great body puncher and knows how to close the show when he has you hurt. The only thing I see lacking was knowing when to tie his opponent up when in a bad situations. Hopefully Mosley showed him how that is done with his win over margarito. Such an important thing to know....In a interview he was asked why he didn't tie up Marg when in trouble? He said," I dont believe in doing that, I believe in punching your way out of all situations". You have to respect that mentality but that's not going to work everytime.
Listen, Pac Man is a very special fighter. It's rare to see a fighter carry the "pop" in his punch as he goes up to the higher weight classes. Pac is a Legendary fighter when it's all said and done. He's won belts at many different weight classes. Why stop now? He should shoot for the stars till' somone stops him. He's been winning in amazing fashion. He already fought at 147lbs. and looked great! Fight Cotto for the belt at 147lbs. If he wins, he is a pound for pound Legend. If he looses...Still a legend that bit off a little more than he could chew and can always go back down to the lighter weights without anybody loosing respect for him. Believe me,...If Cotto beat Pac there will have to be a superfight between Cotto and Floyd. That's what should be what happens anyways because they are the true welterweights..

The guy had a knockdown the first round. Soon after he was cut with an opening big enough to consider stopping the fight. He could have found many ways out of that fight due to the cut and did not! Even with the fact that if they went to the score card early he would have got the win. Many punches he was hit with were due to the fact that he couldn't see them coming. He did what he had to do to win the fight. I had them winning six rounds each but because of the knockdown I had Cotto winning by 1 point.
The one you should be upset with is Clottey for not taking advantage of the opportunity when he had a chance by not throwing punches.

Wow! After watching the fight again I commend Cotto for being a warrior and fighting through many devistating punches. I also agree his chin is better than I thought. He was taking some brutal punishment. If you don't respect Cotto after watching the fight a second time your are just a hater!

It was his night....and he deserves it. I am actually happy for him. This is comming from a die-hard Cotto fan! I will now root for Margarito other than when he fights Cotto. He will be fighting Cotto again and not just once but twice.....Why? because after Cotto views the fight on screen he will ask himself,...."what the hell was I thinking?" I'm sorry, I disagree....This loss was a brutal one for Cotto. Some fighters will never be the same by the beating he recieved. I think Cotto is different from those fighters and will be back. What's crazy is that the beating was in a short period of time. I knew after a few rounds even though Cotto was winning the fight and outskilling Margarito, He would be in trouble because he wasn't hurting Marg with some very flush shots. Cotto's mistake was when he put his back on the ropes. Yes, he was countering off the ropes early but at the pace they were fighting I just knew Marg would catch up to him. He should have stayed in the middle of the ring and threw combos there along with more body shots early to slow Marg down. He would have won the fight. The answer was spoken though.....Cotto's chin is not questionable anymore. He can't take a punch to the head, it's that simple. Cotto will be back on top again. People will pay to see his fights but I suggest no rematch yet. Theres other fights for him out there. He needs to build the confidence again after that brutal beating.
