Listen, I respect Toney for everything he has accomplished in the boxing ring. I had the honor to also spar with him while living in L.A. He broke me down like the sparring partner I was supposed to be. I also took the opportunity to dabble with Brazilian J-J...There is no doubt that to be a high level Pro Boxer, you need way more tech. boxing skill to make it to the top then an MMA fighter needs skill to make it to the top in their sport. Yet they are fighting with MMA rules. I can tell you now,.....If toney doesn't catch him while shooting in, he will be beat up pretty bad with ground and pound before Randy decides to choke him....what do you think?
iF YOU THINK THAT, YOUR WRONG. hE WILL TAKE HIM DOWN and ground and pound him till alomost the end of round 1 then will choke hime out. He will wanna' prove he can beat him with his hands while on the ground.
I for one don't disrespect Randy but I just think he will have to get to Toney first and that will a real problem considering the handspeed and striking abilities of Toney. It will truly be like nothing Randy has experienced. Of course same can be said of what Toney will see. It will be interesting.
You know hes never actually had to do any of that that ever in his career right?
It takes these guys decades to learn how to correctly defend take downs and Tony is supposed to learn how to stop em in 6 months? And they will not be coming from some random meat head UFC guy either. This is Randy Coture who you may not be aware was actually an Olyimpic Greco Roman wrestler.
You people are fuking dilusional and once Randy fuks up Tony maybe you guys can be a little bit more realistic about how one dimensional a straight boxer will always be in the UFC.
You know Chuck Liddel pretty much made a career out of standup right and you think Toney will be any less effective than Liddell? I will man up an say I was wrong if Toney receives a beat down but will you do the same if you are wrong? How bout we just put some points on it? say 100,000?
even if he loses he will leave without a scratch. The MMA ****** will just shoot a takedown and lay on toney for 3 rounds.
Real men throw hands
Randy isn't a lay and pray type of fighter. Maybe you should do a little research first before you open your stupid mouth. If Randy gets you on your back he finishes you. Thats always been his reputation.

I think Toney knows how to move effectively enough to not let a 50 year old get close enough to shoot on him for a little while and can probably land some very damaging shots while doing so.

hopefully Mo Lawal taught him a little wrestle and taught him how to defend take downs because that is all Randy will do is try to take him down right away and get him on his back
but if Randy stands with him then he will get KO'd, his only chance is to take it to the ground
I think Toney is going to surprise a lot of people though
C'mon you can't seriously believe that. There have been great strikers in MMA that have been training defensive wrestling for over 5 years and still get taken down.
There are fighters in MMA who have been wrestling all their lives who get stuffed and taken down by fighters who haven't wrestled beyond High School.
If you honestly believe a boxer who trains sprawl for 6 months would be able to stop a takedown from anyone, you are seriously in need of professional help
I think Toney knows how to move effectively enough to not let a 50 year old get close enough to shoot on him for a little while and can probably land some very damaging shots while doing so. Toney even in his less than prime state was considered to have pretty fast hands, thats in 10 ounce gloves. Put him in 4-6 ounce UFC gloves that will allow him to rally make a fist and watch out. Once Randy is hit he will be gun shy and then Randy is going to take a beating. Im actually pretty excited about this fight though.
You know, Toney is not the right guy to represent "the sport of boxing" for the Octogon. I'll tell you who is though. If Mayweather, Pacman, Berto...that type of quick handed fighter with 6 months of Brazilian J-J training and a good sprawl would own the UFC belt in their weight divisions.....Kermit Cintrón also was a great College Wrestler. He would do great too. That goes to show you, to be a MMA champ doesn't take great skill in all of the skills of combat. You just need to be great at one and ok in the others....Hand striking is the most lethal if your great at it.
Cintron was never part of a college program.
He did get scholarships, but he banged his knees bad, so he couldn't compete
Toney got a punchers chance in there. If he can keep it standing up for as long as possible he'll be fine but im pretty sure Couture is going to launch for the takedown as soon as the fight starts. I cant see anything other then Couture choking Toney out.

Toney is nothing more than an old out of shape loud mouth who is in for a fight in which his opponent may just toy with him (on the ground). I don't know what makes him think he can step into the UFC and face one of the top dawgs. Like Dana White said, they're going to make an example of James Toney.
I'm pulling for Toney but I don't see him doing well.
There will be no way of Toney stopping a take down other than catching him with a lucky shot as he's shooting in enough to stun courture. Your right, he's not the "Toney" that should be representing "the sport of boxing" when giving the Octagon a shot. Dana White is very aware that he's got a big name in there that he's light years past his prime. I respect Toney for giving it a shot though. That's if he comes in shape. I'm just not happy that Dane White will use that fight as an exsample...

Do you really think James "Lights Out Toney" can deal with Randy Courture's MMA? | BoxingScene Community
