Hopefully he doesn't inherit that glass jaw his daddy had...
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
that was pretty mean..
Normally I wouldn't tolorate anyone downing "The Great Jerry Curled One", but yeah his chin could have been better. I hope his son dosen't have that trait. :D
The big question is inactivity. KT has been out for 2 years and Mitchell has been very active compared to most active fighters.
Pros for Mitchell: No stranger to the ring, I think he has had 6 fights in the last 2 years(guessing can't be bothered to look it up). Slick punch and clinch style, perfect to neutralize a hard puncher.
Cons for Mitchell: No power. Went five years without a stoppage, there isn't anything there to keep KT at bay. Has been stopped twice, not sure if this will factor since it was early in his career; but it should be noted. He has been active, but against less than steller opposition...sometimes guys get used to fighting at the same level, this could affect his performance.
Pros for KT: Power! That right hand is rested and should be ready to go, power is the last thing to go. Skill-wise KT has it; very patient and can adjust during a fight. While he has been inactive, he hasen't let himself go; he always looks like he is close to his fight weight, never out of shape. He may have some ring rust, but he dosen't have any ring damage.
Cons for KT: Ring rust is the main factor, he will have some...its all a matter of how he compensates. Slow starter, will he let too many rounds go? Mentality, does he still have the desire to fight?...I think he does.
There it is. I think KT will take it on points, but I say that with about a 75% surety.
Whats the thing about points? I have been posting here for quite some time (not much in the last 3 months) but I missed the whole change of forum thing. I can't find any instructions or anything about it.
Whats it all about?
Gatti and Mayweather ducking each other? No, of course not. Both guys have been wanting to fight ever since Mayweather moved to 140. Its the politics of building up fights and lining it up for a title. They should fight, it would be a good one, but the "Powers That Be" have to work it to get the most money out of it.
This thread is a fine example of a pre-fight build-up, actually. The fight hasn't even been announced yet and people are taking sides. This fight will go down. Both camps have been going on and on about it....it will happen.
I would disagree. It happens here, but not nearly as much as other sites. I have posted at varius sites, but have settled on staying here (even though I don't post much). You really want to see attitude try making an objective post at Eastside about the Klits....say anything that dosen't imply they are gods and you become a target. Other sites have different favorites and you are labled depending on which fighters you prefer. This site has grown alot since I first started posting here, but it is still pretty calm compared to others.
Hopkins advantage at middleweight is that he is bigger and stronger than his opponents. With Tarver he'd be fighting somebody bigger and stronger than him. Hopkins has better defensive skills but Tarver would have height and reach advantage so it would be interesting, but I'd have to go with Tarver. I would hope this fight didn't go to decision because I'd love to see either one of these guys get knocked out. Hopkins is pretty boring and Tarver can be too cautions as he showed the first time against Jones. This fight would probably be boring as hell.
I would disagree that Hop is a "big" middleweight. Strong, yes, but thats conditioning. He has the perfect midleweight frame which is one of the reasons he never moved up or down. He walks around at about 170 when not in training...certainly not a big guy.
I also don't think it would be boring. You saw
Tarver cautious against Jones, but he can bang when he isn't intimidated....example: the Harding rematch. Tarver might think beating a smaller guy would be easy and open up. Remember, he knows he has to prove he isn't a one hit wonder. He should try to take Hopkins out in a decisive way if he wants to gain the reputation he wants, otherwise he just beat up on a smaller guy. The question is, will Hopkins allow him to?
This fight would be very interesting to me.
Not really. Wvlad isn't a spring chicken anymore. He is what he is. He has developed into what he is, its a bit late to start changing things. Technique isn't really his problem anyhow, it think its his mentality. Skill-wise, he is one of the best...at least had the most potential.
Yeah, ive never seen a fighter take a knee when not getting hit. Is that legal?
Maybe it was a delayed effect. I'm guessing here because I haven't seen the fight yet. He was hit with a body shot the first knock down and got up...from what I have read...and he took another knee shortly after, body shots are notorious for having a delayed effect. Just a thought.
If PBF doesn't stay elusive and tries to roll off the bombs Tszu drops I could see it ending in Tszu's favor. PBF has got the speed to dance around anyone though.
I actually think Floyd can take a few of Tsyzu's power shots. He has never really showed that he has a bad chin. The factor in this fight is how many Tyszu can land? floyd will have to be on his toes all 12 rounds, which he can do.
This is a 50/50 fight in my eyes.
A not so well know brawler from Nicruagua (sp?) named Mayorga knocking out the undisputed welterweight champ in three brutal rounds was a bit of a shocker.
Everytime someone says something derogatory towards you, it's racist because your a minority...people like you should be tied to my bumper and dragged through a corn field, then fed a sheet of acid and locked in a trunk, in some old attic nobody ever accesses here
Theres the rational approach. :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
Pretty creative though. :D
People always used to say that Margarito would kill Floyd, and I was the only one who said that Margarito has never impressed me. He looks like a garbage power puncher. He was getting outboxed by Six Heads until his glass chin showed up. I always said that Floyd would dominate Margarito, and after people saw Margarito's last fight I'm sure more would agree. If he got outboxed by Santos and was shook up by his weak ass then what do you think Floyd will do to him. Cotto is way to green to even be compared to Floyd. He hasnt beaten anyone and has showed to have a problem with boxers. I still cant get while everyone is saying that Floyd cant handle the weight even though he dominated a guy who's only recent loss was to Judah who some say was the best in the division anyway. Floyd won every round and dropped Chop twice. Sure he was stunned once but Chop is a crouching south paw. He caught Floyd when he was swinging. He never went down. How many times have all these #for# guys been hurt, been knocked down, or been knocked out. Floyd gets shook up one time and all of a sudden everyone can knock him out. I dont think so. If you think that Cotto and Margarito will destroy Floyd then your crazy
I have never heard anyone talk about Margarito vs PBF. PFB has only just moved to 140...why would anyone be comparing him to Margarito before now? The post was about 147...and call me crazy, but i don't think PBF can carry the weight very well. He lacks power. He only has defence. These guys will literally manhandle him if they have nothing to be wary of. The welters are a bunch of watered down Middleweights. PBF is a swelled up lightweight. Cotto is a huge jr welter, he will be too big for PBF at 147.
Oh, I don't think PBF will become a KO victom or anything, he does have a good chin. I just don't think he will be able to look flashy enough to win rounds when he is getting pushed around.
I hope it works. This is a fight I have been wanting to see. I would like to know how Cotto can handle a taller distance type fighter. I think Harris is a very dangerous opponent for him. Cotto has yet to fight this kinda of fighter.
If Cotto has the balls to take this fight, he will be in for a long night. If Cotto pulls it off, the hype is very real and he is part of the elite.
If Harris bad mouths enough and it works, good for him. Like Cotto, he needs a good fight.
They BOTH have paper thin skin.
Gatti's isn't nearly as bad Leija. Leija bleeds if a slight breeze run across his face. That and Gatti more often than not cuts below the eye...much safer.
did the guy ever win a title? if not its just sad
Leija? He held titles at Super feather, and Lightweight. I think he held a not so important jr welter title, not entirely sure.
Gatti? Lightweight, and at jr Welter.
Happy to answer.
What do you call Pinto if not a taller distance type fighter. Yes, Pinto did try to bang with Cotto (bad mistake) but he also used his jab and tried to box him from the outside. Pinto is a tall guy that dosen't fight like a tall guy. He likes to stoop low and bang like a short fighter...his downfall. In order for Vivian Harris to use his right effectively he will have to allow Cotto to come inside or he needs to close the distance. That is when Cotto will counter with his left hook. I can't see Harris taking the body punishment Cotto will put on him. Dead opposite, Harris wants Cotto outside and will try to pot-shot and clintch Cotto when he comes in. Harris gets his power from the leverage he gets on his right....at a distance.
Cotto isn't a one-punch fighter, either. He has power in both hands as he proved against Pinto and Bailey. Bailey had only been stopped once by Hurtado and that was from a perfect body punch (think Hopkins and DLH). Baily folds under opposition...every time he has stepped up. Its a good win for Cotto, but not that great. He got knocked down twice and was taking a beating before he quit against Cotto. Cotto can set up his left hook nicely with his right and with his jab plus Vivian hasn't fought someone with boxing skills like Cotto has. Have you ever seen Urkal fight? Very hard to beat style, slippery. I don't know anyone who would simply describe him as straight ahead. His wins are against people who come in and try to bang with him (straight ahead fighters) like Urkal and Hurtado. Hurtado is a very skilled fighter, and one who dosen't just come forward. His only downfall is that he is chinny, if it wasn't for that....he would be up there in the elite. However, he lost to Olivera who effectively used his jab and threw nice 3-4 punch combinations that Harris had no idea how to respond to them. Cotto puts his punches together so Harris better watch out.
You cannot compare Harris and Pinto. They are on different plains...skill and style wise. You are right, Cotto will have to get close to Harris to win....and he might. But Harris is going to make Cotto pay for it. It only takes a couple of mistakes from Cotto to lose this fight. But then, same with Harris.
I don't care who wins, I just want to see it.
Vivian's bitch behaviour is gonna get him killed.
Zoo or Cotto will break that long torso in half!
Ah, but Harris learned this leason early in his career. He had a bad night against Ray Oliveria and allowed him to get close....cost him the fight. Since then, Harris hasn't really given anyone the oportunity to bust him up on the inside. He makes people pay dearly for trying to do it.
Cotto might be able to do it, cool if he does. But its not going to be easy by any means. Cotto better be able to handle those quick rights he will get tagged with trying to get in. I'm not saying he can't...But I am saying I would like to see him try.
This would be a good fight.
I've said this before, but I'll say it again: Tarver won't land the KO punch on Johnson, and - although it will be close - Tarver's lazier workrate will mean that Johnson deservedly wins on points. HOWEVER - Tarver will get the decision to the boos of the crowd and the derision of most of us on here. That's my prediction.
Same here, I posted this earlier. I just have a feeling Tarver is going underestimate Johnson too much.
The division is in trouble, but only temporary. It will probally be the best soon with Spinks, Judah, Cintron, Margarito, Mitchell, Oscar, Shane, Zoo, Floyd, and Cotto
Agreed, I like this division in about a year and a half. It has the potential to outshine 140lbs because thats where alot of the talent is coming from.
Side note: I think I am one of the few people to feel that it would be career disaster for Mayweather to move to 147lbs. He most likely will, and he can win some fights. But if he gets in with someone like say Margarito or Cotto, he is going to get manhandled. He is too small and offers nothing as far as power at 147....he leaves alot to be desired at 140 (as far as power). The only thing he can do at 147 is fight "Spinx Type" fights that put the fans to sleep.
i was taklign about leija, if he had a world title
Ok, his most important title was the WBC at Super Feather. He won it from Azuma Nelson. He has had a few other alphabet titles throughout Superfeather and lightweight.
Of course he was. He had to testify on a Senate sub-committe on steriod abuse in proffesional sports. This is no revelation. Just look at him when he was at 154lbs prior to the last fight with Winky. I think/hope he stopped and slimmed down for his rematch with Winky.
If he goes down to 147, he shouldn't need the roids anymore.
Umm, good thread. Original.
Who do I hate? I try to be as objective as possible, but I really can't stand Sharba Mitchell. There aren't too many things I like about him...personallity, style, ect ect. It pains me to try to think about some good regarding him.
Here it goes. (swallows lump in back of throat) Mitchell has one of the best footwork in boxing. He is an expert at positioning and sliding in and out of a fighters range...with the exception of KT...hehe.
There it goes, that was painfull. Thanks alot pal! ;)
Likes: Kostya. One of my favorites. But dammit this bum needs to fight more! He keeps us waiting too long. Hopefully he will change that with his last few fights. He knows he isn't getting younger.
Hopkins will talk but then make a ton of excuses not to fight Tarver.
Really? Alot of people don't like Hopkins for one reason or another, but not because he has ducked anyone. Unless your stating he should have moved up in weight, but he has always made it clear he had no intentions to.
Could you give an example?
who cares...neither will be champion at 140
You know what, your right. Why watch a couple of guys that will never be "champ", or at least the "real" champ. Ya know, I don't even know why they are televising this. A complete waste of time IMO.
Get real. This is a good fight, better than most "championship fights". This is a fight for the true boxing fans, not the nuthuggers. Anyone who knows anything about boxing understands this will be a good fight.
Well, I finaly got to see the fight. Here is my take on it.
I thought Tarver won by a point or 2, but I can't argue the decision too much....it was close. There were a couple of rounds that could have gone either way. Just depends on how you look at it. All in all an entertaining fight. Mainly due to Johnson stinking up Tarvers plan.....well done to Johnson.
Now time to give myself a pat on the back. The fight went exactly how I expected it. I predicted that Tarver would win a disputable decision and fight sloppy, in other words Johnson would not allow him to look good. In that sence, I got it right. Never in a million years would I have thought the Vegas judges would give Johnson the nod. I guess Tarver is not a likable guy. If it had been say RJJ in there in the same fight, Roy would have got the nod. Tarver reminds me of a boxing version to Eddie Haskel....never shuts up, and always wants to say "right" things, but ends up making himself look like an ass. Maybe thats why.
In closing, overall my opinion of both fighters stays the same. Tarver is good.....good only. Johnson is also good, but seems to have a better work ethic and is a bit more willing to let loose, but overall not a world-beater....just a good solid fighter.
