his style depends on his speed, without greasy fast speed he gets KTFO'd, the speed allowed roy to do the things that other fighters ( and now RJJ ) get knocked out for doing, especially keeping his hands low, the speed allowed him to make mistakes and not get caught - now when he makes the same mistakes, he gets caught ( first by Tarver's lucky punch and then by Johnson's swarming attack).
Makes sense babe...and I know he was notorious for keepign that hand down LOW! He did get away with that for a very long time ;)
Oh okay, got ya! So, his biggest asset was his speed??

it was definitley before the tarver fights, Roy looked great against Ruiz because even a slow Roy Jones is light years faster than any heavyweight that ever lived, but when he went back down to 175 his decline in speed became very apparent, thinking back to the first fight with tarver i thought something was wrong with Roy, but decided it was having to burn off all the muscle he put on to be a heavyweight, but now i realize it was his lack of speed, he looked good at times in the fight but didn't look dazzling like he used to before ( i've been a roy jones fan since the mid 90's, so i've been watching his fights for long time ). the bad news for Roy is that his style depends on his amazing reflexes, he should have stayed a heavyweight he'd still be faster than anyone in the division

Very true, and I agree (thats just not what the discussion was about though) It was about exactly when Jones had become "done"...if it was before or after the Tarver fights; not if he needed to prove himself even more ;)

Tarver ended Jones
Jones is shot, something happened to his amazing reflexes, they're just not there anymore
Oh, and some karma coming your way after I spread it around....I must have sent to you recently and forgot it  ;)
Roy Jones Jr. has nothing to prove to anyone, he was perhaps the most skilled (reflex and speed + power wise) fighter of any decade and maybe even in any division....

Okay, I usually agree with you 9 times out of 10, so I guess this is that one time that I dont. How was it a cheap win? I mean, everyone kept talking like Jones dominated him completely in the first fight as expected...and that same "has been" just beat a heavy wt. Like Ruiz or not (and I dont) he is a real heavy wt...so, everyone was going on and on over that victory...then Tarver ko's him and all of a sudden it's only cause Jones was shot?? I dont get that...could it not be that Tarver just happens to have that type of style; a style that would give Jones problems no matter when they fought?? I mean, in all fairness..you dont have to like Tarver to admit that. And nobody said a word about Jones being "done for"...hell, no where near it, until Tarver beat him. That's just not fair to Tarver...not at all
I agree wtih this one. I also do not like how great/good fighers become "has beens" after one or two losses. RJJ lost to the top LHWs. Tarver and GJ are both tremendous boxers. RJJ looked good in his first fight with Tarver.
i think tarver thought it was "in the bag", he's been partying all year since he forced a past his prime Roy Jones to lean back. i know Roy was arrogant too, but Jones REALLY WAS THAT GOOD, he's the most naturally talented fighter i've been lucky enough to see in my lifetime. with all the years of hype over Roy Jones, it's not much of surprise to me that he started believing he was superman. i hate tarver because of his cheap win over RJJ, a prime RJJ would have destroyed tarver like he did Montell Griffin in the rematch. i could beat a has been too, and i'm a shitty amateur, the diference bewteen me and tarver is i don't think that makes me great

Yes it was a good fight --- good for my wallet! Please send me 100,000 - you see, I have to buy a Red Nosed Alligator, and they are expensive here in New Orleans! But they sure fly fast!
u should be straight now, i sent u 10k the 1st time, my bad, but i just sent another 90k

already sent it. i'll beat u 1 day.
yeah, but tarver was landing more clean shots, hell he even threw more. Glen was just swinging wildly. i had it 8-4 tarver. all in all though, it was a good fight.

yeah he's an arrogan jerk (no more so than Jones), but I think most of that is an act...he doesnt seem to really believe it, not the way JOnes believed it. I really thought he was just damn exhausted and had been since the 8th or 9th rd.
Maybe he thought he had it 'in the bag' or, maybe he was just dog tired?/

i'm happy johnson won, tarver slacked off at the end of the fight because he's arrogant, he thought " i'm antonio tarver, i don't need to throw punches to win " , but you can't give up any rounds when the fight is that close. johnson showed the judges he wanted it more

I was goin for Glen in this fight, but I had Tarver winning by a point also. I got respect for both of these cats though. The man Glen has a full time job to support his fam and his boxing, that's something I can relate to doin. Gotta respect that. I'd hope to see a rematch. But I think that Tarver would win that as I thought he won this fight. This is only about the third fight I've seen Glen in, but it seems to me that he can only fight one way, and that's to keep coming forward. Against Antonio, I can that would probably be best to do in his case, but I really think that his trainer should put some heavy work on him in the gym to improve his footwork and body movement. Cus if coming forward is all that he can do I think Tarver's gonna hurt him in a rematch.
I agree, I've seen Glen fight several times and he's always the very same way...coming straight at ya, no letting up. He did this with Tarver so well that he was completely smothering Tarvers punches; if Tarver had stayed dedicated to his jab he may have been able to keep Glen backed up enough to take full advantage of his reach. ;) Even though I scored it for Tarver 115-113, I had a bad feeling the judges would give it to Johnson cause Tarver completely blew atleast 2 of the championship rounds...you simply dont do that and he should know that better than anyone if only cause of his first fight with Jones!
