My thoughts on Chop and Cotto

I told you guys before the fight that Chop is really good but just comes up short. He had Cotto and Floyd really hurt and fought a horrible fight against Zab and still made it a split decision. I honestly think he could beat Gatti, Harris, Hatton, N'Dou, and Witter but I dont think he will get any chance any time soon. Cotto is a good young fighter but I told you guys that he is not ready for the praises that you put on him and saying that he would beat all the top guys except for maybe Zoo but some even think he would beat him. Most of you picked him over Floyd in the poll the other day and some of the one's who picked Floyd said that Cotto will beat him in a year or 2. It's hard to judge his fight with Chop. Fighting a lefty is very tricky and it doesnt always meant that your chin is weak just like I told you about Floyd. There is a difference though and the difference is that Floyd is already proven and Cotto isnt. Floyd has been a champ for years and has beaten alot of good fighters and was in his 3rd weight class when he got stunned. This was Cotto's first big fight in a weight class that he is much bigger then almost everyone including Chop and he was hurt bad. He also got hit clean way too much. I dont know how good Cotto is but he doesnt look like anything special right now. It looks more like he is a big guy trying to buy time at 140 because he knows if he moves up then he would have no advantages and look like a average fighter. He wouldnt beat Zab, Oscar, Shane, Mayorga, Spinks, Margarito, or Cintron. He is going to have a tough time with any of the top 140 pounders. People say his power is great but if he fights a great defender like Floyd it will be netuarlized and if he fights Gatti or Zoo then they would be able to take his punches alot better because they will be just as big as him. He wont hurt them like he does the others. I dont know what the future holds for Cotto but it looks alot dimmer now. He has to move fast at 140 because he wont be able to make the weight for long so pretty soon we will know. The rest of 140 will be very tough and 147 will be extremely tough for him. I heard someone say that it should be a rematch but if I was Cotto, I wouldnt go anywhere near this fight. He KO Chop but he will always give Cotto problems and the next fight will be even tougher. He would be in the US and wouldnt have the whole crowd on his side. If the fight was in DC tonight he mightve lost. Cotto is good but how good? That is the question. What do you guys think about what Ive said about Cotto and Chop? P.S. Did any of you hear what the commentators said about Chop when he came into the ring? They said something about that Chop said the reason why he couldnt finish Floyd is because he has some kind of blood disorder or something and he has been taking more iron and vitamins. I dont know but something seemed to change in him when he had Cotto hurt

Man this could have been a great fight if it had been allowed to go on for a few more rounds..the stop was a little premature, but i also feel that Corley was not in a very good shape to come back. Taking a knee when you dont even get hit is clear sign of that. But if the fight hadnt been stopped then it was quite probable that cotto would have walked in another blow, and would have been doing that silly dance again. Cotto was really hurt in that 3 round, and what Corley said about the ref stopping the fight then would cotto was staggering was a totaly valid comment...The fight should have been allowed to go on, but 70% chance says that the outcome would have been the same.

Nah,cotto fought a stupid fight,very stupid,of all the cotto fights i seen,i never seen him fight like that,ever,i knew it was trouble right when i saw him rushing the dude,cause he kept getting caught cleanly,even with a dude that dosent have great power,you keep getting caught and your gonna get hurt eventually,cotto took way too many of those shots,he didnt smarten up until that last round,but it was a stupid ref,cotto has a blemish on his record for being stupid and getting rocked,and because of a controversial stoppage in which he could have,imo,finished off corley. I understand what you are saying but I dont believe you or any of the other Cotto fans. You guys know that you were going crazy when he started like that and you thought he could KO him in round 1. I can hear all of you now jumping up and down and saying see how he destroyed him in the first when Floyd and Zab couldnt and how that means he would kill them

Yes, it's worrying that Cotto got rocked. Yes, it was a bad call, ending the fight. Yes, Cotto 'could have' lost had Corley been able to capitalise. But to insinuate that he's now fodder for the likes of Harris and Gatti is taking it too far. I mean, wow! Cotto's human after all.

Cotto seems like to totally diffrent fighter when he is in Puerto Rico, he thinks he has to knock everybody out inside of four or five rounds. He deserved to loose last night and was very lucky to walk away with a win. Myself I under sold Chop Chop, I didn't think he would be able to land anything hard without being knocked into the fifth row, however he was enough of a pro to make Cotto look bad at times (and almost knock him out) when Cotto was leaving himself wide open. I hope Corley gets a well deserved rematch, but like you guys say he more than likely won't. I was one of those guys who picked Cotto over Mayweather, it looks like a bad pick now but every figher takes his lumps. I'll just chalk this one up to Cotto being lead on by the big crowd and being tot a lesson by a crafty southpaw.

the fight was dissapointing. cotto was lucky he was in his home town because the stoppage was terrible as was the first knockdown. the first knockdown was corley reacting from a low shot and then when corley was on the ground the ref allowed cotto to get in some shots while corley was on the ground. roy jones was dq'd for less than that.than when the fight was stopped it was just corley takin a knee. i have never seen a fight stopped from a guy taking a knee. the guy just wanted to avoid getting hurt, corley had a good chance of winning that fight. he had cotto hurt badly in the third and could have hurt him again if he were given the chance.

see it'd be different if cotto was more of a boxer, but he's an aggressive bull. an aggressive bull should have a strong chin. It's legal but it will count as a knock down. Fighters do it to avoid unnecessary punishment specially when the rounds about to close.

Yeah, ive never seen a fighter take a knee when not getting hit. Is that legal? It didnt look like a delayed reaction he stepped back and dodged cotto's punches, and as he dodged the third, he took a knee. Can someone clear this up for me? Is taking a knee when you have not been hit and are dodging punches legal?

Yeah, ive never seen a fighter take a knee when not getting hit. Is that legal? Maybe it was a delayed effect. I'm guessing here because I haven't seen the fight yet. He was hit with a body shot the first knock down and got up...from what I have read...and he took another knee shortly after, body shots are notorious for having a delayed effect. Just a thought.

i can't wait to see cotto fight the least recognized of the proper super lighwight champs...being vivian harris......i know cotto would chicken out of facing the big 3... so it would be great to see him fight harris......i am sure that harris would knock the f... out of cotto..to such an extent that cotto would have to re-do his faggot eyebrows.

Corley regularly spars with Tszyu, this man deserves credit. I think the stoppage was premature and Merchant described it best "Disgrace" The ref was looking for a reason all night and finally got it, A lot of fighters take a knee to regain their head. It would be different if the ref had asked him do you want to quit but nothing was said. On top of that the ref was against Corley all night, He wouldnt even tell him in English what the rules of the bout were before the fight. Corley had him hurt and Corley did not look hurt at all. I think it was absurd and while I think Cotto is the next top guy at 140, I cant wait for someone to fight him in Puerto Rico and blister his ass. If I was Corley I would have suckered punch the ref afterwards.

If the fight was in DC i think cotto wouldn't have fought a stupid ass fight.Cotto is not good rushing in there so offensively, he looked like a big guy with power in there,very stupid,and he paid the price,he got hit clean/constanly/and got rocked.I think he got to caught up in the puerto rico thing, I cant believe he fought that kind of fight tho,It was the not the time to try something stupid.I think cotto stops corely next time If it happens,and If cotto fights like he was fighting before this fight,heres hoping cotto DOES smarten up,(and knowing he will,but FUCK he scared me).I havent seen corley fight but one other time before this,I dont think he would have done nearly as well hadnt not been for cotto leaving himself open like he did,STUPIDLY.But it was a learning experience, learning the hardway,and best it should have happened now,than later against one of the top guys.
