ThIs thread is absolutely correct is you're talking about who has bigger balls. Jmm fighting Floyd is showing more balls than Floyd has ever shown in his career. Jmm is fighting better comp than Floyd at this point for sure.
Paulf, that was weak.
jmm>>manny..jmm fought floyd..no 1 million per pound overweight demands
Floyd will forever be a bit ch for coming in that heavy. That was no class and has nothing to do with manny. What idiot wouldn't hold Floyd to a catchweight penalty after that.
It's funny that so many fans are demanding that Martinez (who has taken 4 tough fights in a row) jump right back and take on the toughest available opponent.
Many of them are the same people who support Lucian Bute fighting a never ending line of bums as long as he claims he is going to fight the winner of the Super 6 someday.
Lulz hitman. The first part isn't me (I think Martinez should take on a Lorenzo type).
Second part maaaaaybe. I was hammered when we squabbled over bute.
I like guys who clean out a division so if bute doesn't start trying to pick off these super 6 dropouts if they areN't soooooooo hurt they can't fight again, I will quickly change my opinion of him.
boxing is one long build up. they keep stringing the fans along cause they know they are stupid. how about just making the good fights?
Rog could use another tough fight is my thinking.
No one's saying he is. Uncle Bob isnt letting Cotto, Margs, or especial Lil Chavez near Sergio.
We're talking about why Martinez and Dibella want them instead of Pirog.
I wasn't aware Sergio was actively seeking a fight with jc jr.
It's on pirog to go after Sergio, sergio's the man right now.
I'm gonna tell you right now Bute is not going to fight the Super 6 winner.
When it comes time to make the fight Bute is going to refuse to leave Montreal, demand a 50-50 split despite having done nothing on par with Ward (the likely winner) and just make a bunch of stupid demands in general.
If he were a fighter determined to make a legacy for himself he would have pushed for a Jean Pascal fight and made an attempt to win the 175 lb title while waiting around for the Super 6 winner.
Instead he basically said no to Pascal "I won't fight at 175" then went on to propose a possible match with Danny Green at 175.
How can anyone take him seriously when he does that?
like I said in my last post, if he doesn't start pickng off these dropouts....
I don't see it that way. I see him as wanting to clean out his division as he has fought his mandatory and the next best 168lbers out of the super six. Not his fault he wasn't invited.
The reason he'll try and fight in Montreal is the $ and the hometown edge. Same reason ward (except bute sells way more tickets) is the only guy who got all his fights in his ht. Bute would murder green, he beat bika, he has looked excellent against good to decent smw's.
It's unfair to judge bute yet like that. There's plenty of great fighters that stick in their division and clean it out, jumping around doesn't do it for me as much as ruling your division with an iron fist does.
But you might be right. If the winner and bute can't settle on a neutral site, they'll both look soft to me. Bute is bringing the $ and the winner of the super six is bringing best smw in the world status.
Chavez jr brings a name and some amount of Mexian/Mexican American fans in Cali, TX, or Vegas.
Andy Lee would bring the Irish crowd out in NYC.
Pirog-Martinez is tough because neither fighter has any fans in America. It's a fight I want to see but it would be a very risky venture.
NO WAY arum puts Chavez jr in with maravilla or pirog. You can dead that talk right now. You too burner. That's all talk.
Ld love to see that fight, but I agree with jro about a doubleheader but not his opponents. Lorenzo and pirog is ok but lee v Martinez is not something I particularly think anyone really wants to see.
I'd rather see Sergio take on Lorenzo and pirog fight gennedy or Lemieux.
Pretty good article on andre. He's a pretty interesting read, I disagree about him "making adjustments" in the bika fight. So he made adjustments cuz bika was tired? He kept talking about bika being so hard to deal with then saying how he only fights one way. He could have made the fight much easier allegedly.
If he's worried about being labeled as boring he should have fought bika from the outside, not all that tying up and holding. Bika is gonna make the fight a showcase fight for you if you box him. Holding and wrestling ain't gonna do it.
Ward is a badass and a bomafide draw, but I don't know if he's as smartca fighter as everyone is trying to get me to believe he is. His style isn't anywhere near as fluid and unpredictable as it seemed to be before the super six. Abe will be an easy fight for him, the finals will not, I look forward to road warrior v froch and winner v ward in a big way.
I agree with you Walt. I thought he would have had an easier time with Bika, had he just boxed him from the outside. I mean, he can do it. He's versatile in that regard and I want to see him do more of that.
I'm right witcha coach. He's shown excellent boxing ability, especiay in the amateurs and up until about and during the Miranda fight. He seems to have lost his way a little bit, or he thinks he has to fight like this on the elite level.
I just remember a more versatile guy than we've seen his last 4 fights and he had a chance to showcase his skills vs bika and didn't.
People sht on Ward for fighting in Oakland, but i hear barely anything about Butes refusal to fight anywhere outside of Canada.Thats why Vegas is great for boxing it generally is a neutral site for fights giving no one a distinct home advantage.
The difference is this:
ward is in a tournament where he is the only fighter that has had the advantage of fighting on his home turf every fight. In that same tourney, hometown fighter has gotten every decision. Also, ward has a very tough style the could cause a lot of problems with different ref's.
Both are draws, but the guys bute has been fighting since the ko of andrade are guys he could take out fighting with one arm chopped off in sweetpea87's chicken coop in Modesto.
Bute has one horriffic instance of home cookin, other than that, his left is judge jury and executioner.
Not talking about manny paulf, you brought it up.
Jmm's best weight is 135 right now. Let khan become a big draw and jmm will fight him. Stepping up to 147 after never even fighting 140 vs floyd >>>>>> than taking that fight with khan by far far far.
Pets say juanma jumps up to lw to fight jmm his next fight.... How impressive would that win for jmm be and who gets more props.
well, coming in head first complete with lowblows and elbows for 12 rounds with no warnings from the ref in your hometown, is dirty fighting with home court advantage in my book, and can take the opponent out of their game if he can't recipricate...
seems like the general consensus is son of bernard is a dirty fighter who feels the need to have home court advantage in his fights...he definitely went on the defensive when the question was asked about his fights being in oakland, its right here in black and white, so he must either read about his negative critiques, or is well informed...
if we live in an era where you can't express your distaste for a certain fighters tactics and business acumen without being tagged a "hater", then boxing will be as boring as sob's last fight...
but please man, nobody is "hating" on sob, more like, to the discerning critic, he just has to prove some things before making final judgment on him...
green k owed, specially for the "hate" breakdown.
Nsb is infinitely better if you completely ignore any thread about Floyd or manny.
Showtime needs to put there fights On Demand or something because they have the whackest movies out of the 4 i have which is HBO, STARS, ENCORE, and SHOWTIME. well i have showtime free for 3 months. But i did have Showtime in the past and i wish they would have fights and build ups/greatest hits On Demand like HBO does which is the shizzle.
stars and encore are the only movie channels with good movies. hbo shows the same movies for 6 months straight.
could this topic get any staler?????
manny has an ever so slightly better resume in the last 5 fights, he's the only one who beat someone that nearly everyone thought he was gonna lose to (dela) and beat a guy in pretty much a pickum fight (cotto). all the other 8 wins were gimmies for both guys more or less.
Honestly i thought Berto look better against Forbes than what Oscar did.
And, Berto didn't put such a good performance against Forbes.
So that is what shows you what I personally thought of how Oscar looked against Forbes.
One of the reasons why I predicted Pac by 11th round stoppage against Oscar(was kind of close).
I just thought "damn if Forbes who was feather fisted at 130, let alone at 150, could do that to Oscar face. Imagine what Pac would do."
Obviously. Oscar can in no way shape or form be considered to have looked good against Forbes. Unless you think he looked good against Sturm and you wear oscar-ball sunglasses.
:haha::haha:
i wonder what was your reaction when you saw floyd in that press con crying incessantly on the shoulders of ellerbe to announce his retirement from boxing...you must've cried a river:lol1:
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
dude has probably tried to kill ellerbe numerous times. floyd better not let him be president of his fan club or he might get selena'd.
Why,both were horrible??What do U mean,Mosley is strong & he would have matched up better with Pacman a few years ago!!:dunno:
both wins weren't horrible, i said both wins weren't that impressive.
I'm not sure why you're trying to play this game. Pac whooped that ass when they fought.
Cotto is a warrior, pac is a better fighter than cotto, doesn't matter who has a better craptastic trinket at 154, neither is the real champ at that weight
If u had to choose though,by the way,why is Cotto's win weak??
Yuri on a broken knee? Cotto should have done away with him waaaay earlier. I don't think Cotto looked strong at 154.
Yuri period is not someone I would consider a world class boxer, nor has he ever been. Margs at least was.
I would say that Margs the night pac beat him was more formidable than Yuri was, but who really cares. Pac already beat Cotto's ass.
Everyone knows that Pac's 154 "World Championship" is a joke though. He was fighting someone for a vacant title that looked like crap his last fight.
Hence, both wins aren't really that impressive.
plues fight was at full 154lbs limit
well,
by the TS's logic, margarito already beat cotto, so beating margarito is more impressive than what cotto did
(in response to your santos crack about santos beating margs)
I don't really know about that!!U see Foreman the fight previous, beat a once world class fighter & champion in Santos!!Dominated him to be exact!!Santos also had some solid wins on his resume, matter of fact, nahhh,we'll leave that out!!But you get the picture, couple that with Roach saying Foreman was too big & boom,U get an answer!!
santos was coming off about 14 month layoff and had fought 2 times in the past 40 months or so. I would say Santos was on the decline and don't even try to compare margs that fought santos to margs that fought pac.
you can't possibly be that shortsighted, I've read your posts many times and they're usually pretty thoughtful, but every situation is different. for example, is the dude who has a win over bhop in bhop's first fight a better fighter than glen johnson
Obviously pac has surprised roach as freddie thought shane was too strong, but we found out otherwise.
