honestly i think roy was more of special talent because of his unreal athletic ability...but that doesn't mean Floyd wasn't incredible too. Floyd was an incredible boxer, great defensive fighter. I just think Roy was a different kind of special because he was able to do unorthodox moves and get away with them. It was more exciting in my opinion...
theres only one LOLAGE! PWNAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one LOLAGE! PWNAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! walking along singin the song!!!!!!!!!!walkin in a LOLAGE! PWNAGE! wonderland!!!!!!!!!
roy jones has heart. he showed it against tarver in the first fight. Lou De Valle is mad because he got his ass handed to him for 12 rounds other than that flash knockdown.
I have to say both because both are good fighters IMO just because floyd is on top right now doesnt mean he has all the respect XD, im not going there but i respect both of them maybe roy a little more.
yeah. honestly its almost tough to pick one over the other, they are both incredible talents.
I don't think Roy should have said that. But things are starting to get heated between Calzaghe and Roy as of late...they are starting to take jabs at each other now.
No doubt about it, Roy was the man. When he lost to Taver that shit bothered me like I was the one that had just lost the fight
lol. me too man. i was watching that shit live on ppv and boom hes on the floor in the second round. I didn't talk for 5 mins, I was shocked. After that first round I was thinking, Roy's got this. Sometimes I think he might have won that fight if he made it to the 3rd or 4th round. I think Tarver caught Roy when he was dry and stiff early. I think Roy is most vulnerable early in fights because of his age, he needs to warm up first. The Glen Johnson one bothered me the most because it looked like Roy didn't just get koed(and get right up), but it looked like he got seriously hurt. I don't care who it is, you never want to see a fighter struggle to lift their head off the canvas...scary stuff.
hhaha... he doesnt need it.. he can still throw a straight right hand better than almost anyone...
yeah.
too bad i wasn't reffing the fight though, the fight would be in the bag.
If Calzaghe threw a combo I take points away...lol
Me: Joe what did I tell you about trying to win the fight!!! one punch at time!
Joe: what the fuck is wrong with you!!!
i'll be honest i watched the glen johnson/jones fight this morning...that fight made me question my prediction. But I'm still picking roy, i think he handles pressure better now. he expects it in every fight.
Great post and people will have to agree with you when he beats calz, although everyone will disagree, but i dont believe that cal is a elite fighter.
calz is ranked top 5 p4p.
Roy isn't shot but he is way past his prime. That doesn't mean that Roy cannot beat the top fighters out there cuz I think he still has the capabilities to beat anyone, he just isn't nearly as good as he use to be. 40 Roy isn't nearly as good as 27 Roy but 40 Roy is still better than alot of the top fighters.
thats how I see it. Not what he use to be, but still a pretty good fighter with talent.
ive noticed the same exact thing... after 3 rounds he gets stronger to me, and he doesnt fade near the endo f the fight like everyone else seems to think....
say what you want but hanshaw made roy work hard for 12 rounds... which was a good thing... roy got some good practice in on the ropes, and instead of laying on the ropes covering up and getting punched like in the tarver fights... he was actually practiving rolling/blocking and countering..
in the tito fight he practiced more center of the ring boxing, and some of the old combinations he used to throw...
for 39, you cant be anything but impressed
Roy Jones Jr. at 40 is still a good fighter. Roy Jones Jr. 20's-early 30's was a great fighter.
yeah he faught off the ropes against Hanshaw, he didn't just lay there.
Jarah Mariano. CHECK OUT Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. She has a pictorial on line.
She's Hawaiian, Chinese, and Korean.
The trifecta!!!
thanks man.
on top of that... a 3 fight win streak, and a good 24 rounds in the last year...
compared to taking the first loss of your career by knockout, and then trying to fight 4 months later by a pressure fighter
yeah, i think roy had the idea of getting knocked out on his mind the whole time against Glen Johnson. So he didn't fight like himself, he wasn't ready to fight at that point. Plus Hurricane Katrina ruined his farm and he had to move his training camp.
Honestly I saw alot of good things in the Hanshaw fight. There were alot of flashes of the old Roy in that fight. IMO. Roy needs to come into the Calzaghe fight warmed up. Roy is better after round 3 now, he needs to get a sweat going...thats one thing i've noticed in his past three fights.
that post that reedickyaluss posted above is one of the best posts i've seen in a while.
if jones was completley shot, he would have been koed for a third time by either hanshaw or ajamu.
if think about, all great fighters lose. maybe not all but the majority. if you hang around long enough someone is going to clip you. thats why Mayweather bounced.lol
but to answer the question, i think its impressive what Roy did. he beat a top 10 heavyweight after starting his career at 154.
I'm not trying to say Roy is as good as he was in his prime. Hes not and never will be. But like Dan Rafeal said from ESPN, even now hes still a good fighter.
