I have to go with Floyd. They were equally gifted, Roy has a bit better resume but losses in there too. Floyd made all the right steps unless his retirement, he seems to be unbeatable, and for now we'll never know.
roy could make mistakes and still look great / win the fight. floid doesn't make mistakes or take risks. roy has more talent overall, floid's technique is better. floid is the smarter fighter, roy is just naturally gifted
ok so i take back the comment about toney, i didnt know he was p4p at that time, i was wrong and i admit it. but ruiz has always sucked... who cares if he was the bigger man? if roy was honestly trying to make a statement by doing a fight at heavyweight fuck he could have picked someone besides RUIZ! what about joe mesi or something? that would have been alot better... mesi was fighting at that time right? also, belts dont always make fights important, especially in a division as ugly as jones was in. he could have moved around a bit and made some fights happen, same for floyd. if the fight with virgil hill was a truly meaningful win, then there is no reason why anyone should rag on any of the klitschko's fights.
toney, ruiz, and virgil are all completely meaningless fights. jesus especially ruiz, honestly... saying "roy jones moved up to heavyweight to win a title" sounds alot better than adding "against ruiz" to the end of it.
tarver really won that first fight with jones, everyone knows it. roy jones sat in a division which was worse than the heavyweight division of today. he made himself look like a god against fighters that never went anywhere before or after their fights with jones. im not saying roy didnt have skills, he did, but he didnt fucking fight the people he could have fought. now that hes old and the god damn rappers have broke him hes all wanting title shots and shit cause he whipped up on trinidad? cmon...
thats not to say floyd has had a great career, he dodged alot of fighters just like jones did. fact is though that de la hoya, hatton, and judah are better than anyone roy jones had ever faced, outside of bernard hopkins.
floyd and jones both have skills but they could have done alot more and made efforts to fight more "real" fights. you dont see pacman, pavlik, taylor, or hopkins taking any easy fights these days do you? floyd and RJJ were both #1 p4p champs at one time, and that generally means you should be trying to fight p4p fighters if possible.
in my mind floyd and jones will always be "dodgers"
Your post has significant flaws.
Toney, Ruiz and Virgil Hill are all meaningless fights? How so? Ruiz was a legitimate HW title holder and the far bigger man. For a former MW to move up and beat a HW champ takes a tonne of ability, certainly not a meaningless win. Toney - best SMW at the time and top 5 p4per - how is this a meaningless win? So what if Toney was not at his 100% best during the fight, hundreds of fighters have had things working against them in fights, it doesn't mean the win is worth nothing. Virgil Hill was one of the top LHWs of the era - a great win and the dominant fashion in which Roy achieved it adds to it.
"Everyone knows Tarver won the first fight" - run a poll. See what responses you get. THe fight was one of the easiest to score in history and Roy won it.
"Oscar, Hatton and Judah are better than anyone Roy ever faced outside of Hopkins" - So we rate Ricky and Zab over James Toney now do we? FFS.

How can Toney be a meaningless fight. It was for the undisputed championship of the world. Toney was even ranked higher in the P4P lists at the time. Jones was the underdog. The hill fight was also for a unification bout.
I love Roy. But his nutmeg skin is not respectable.
...fucker bleached it.
he was darker in the olympics.
Seoul Korea, son.
nah son, its cause glencoffe johnson beat the black outta him...
You're retarded. Jones beat Toney, Hopkins, Virgil Hill, Tarver(1st fight), and John Ruiz. He won titles from middleweight all the way to heavyweight. I think that's way better than Gayweather's resume.

I never bring up McCaullum or Paz when I am nuthugging Roy's resume. One of them was past his prime and fighting about 33 weight classes above his natural weight and the other was at least 40 years of age and a shell of his former self. They are good names sure, but not good names on Roy's resume when situational factors are taken into account.
I know that 168 wasnt PAZ's natural weightclass but he seemed to carry the weight well and he impressed me with his speed and slickness. When he challenged Jones for the Super middleweight title I actually thought he had a decent shot. He was hot at the time and was on an 11 fight win streak.
You forget the body snatcher, Mike McCallum.
Toney and Hopkins alone are better than everyone on Floyds resume combined.

Totally forgot about the "body snatcher" and pazienza too. Anyway you helped prove my point.

I think its' unfair to compare the fighters of today to the fighters of yesterday. The fighters of today never get a fair shake in this debate. Scroll up and read some post. Some people are saying Roy's wins over Toney and Hopkins are better than any of Floyd's wins. That's why i say dont compare because that sounds crazy as hell to me. Keep it in the same weight class
it isnt crazy, hes merely saying, floyd didnt fight anyone with the "skillset" that of toney or hopkins...
its not a size debate, is based on fighting skill... bernard and toney were better fighters then any of the fighters floyd beat
Also, why can't you compare two fighters' resumes who fight in different weight classes? You simply analyse the quality of the fighters they were able to beat and assess them accordingly. If what you say is true, we should limit comparisons on resumes to fighters fighting in the same weight class and the same era.

Who do you respect more?
Jones Jr, many accuse him of fighting nobody. But the fact is he defended his title vs many young undefeated prospects. I dont think Floyd did that once at WW.
