What goes down as a better win for Roy...Him beating Ruiz and being the heavyweight champion, but getting ko'd by tarver and Johnson as he did. Or him still being undefeated and beating Tarver and Glen johnson instead of being ko'd. But not going up to heavy and winning the title
if think about, all great fighters lose. maybe not all but the majority. if you hang around long enough someone is going to clip you. thats why Mayweather bounced.lol
but to answer the question, i think its impressive what Roy did. he beat a top 10 heavyweight after starting his career at 154.
Yeah I'm glad Roy did what he did. It is an amazing accomplishment on paper and gave him the world credit he deserved, but I'd honestly prefer he stayed where he was best. UNLESS, he went on to beat Byrd and retired, or something, which to be honest I'd say he does easy. This to me is similar to what Pac is trying to do in taking on Oscar. It will probably ruin him even if he does win, and it will deny us the fights we deserve to see, like Guzman,Marquez III, Campbell, Cas, Diaz, Katsidis, Valero, Linares, Soto, other fights that would prove how amazing he really is instead of how good his career looks on paper.
I never considered him an underdog against Ruiz. I can't believe at that time anybody woulda picked him to lose that fight. It's a great accomplishment but one he could do without if it means swappin the KO losses for wins against Glen and Tarver.
Of course retiring after ruiz. But out of these 2 i think sticking in the division and whiping everyone out. But the lhw division would be looked at as a bad division cause roy would of cleaned everyone out easily
That is a fucking tough call. Good poll question. I think it would have been better for him to not lose to Tarver and especially Johnson. That Johnson loss is a really shit loss. Ruiz was the worst heavyweight champ. If Roy had beat Ruiz and maybe beat Byrd, that would have been something. But he pussed out and got knocked out.
Beating Ruiz because nobody else will do that in a long time. Everyone knows he would have beaten Tarver and Johnson if he didn't move to Heavyweight so i don't see the point in fighting them when he can make history and do what he did.
But Come on guys he didn't just lose he got brutally KOed !
Your telling me the win over a mediocre Heavy like Ruiz means more than not getting Koed by a couple of bums !???
I bet if you asked Jones which he prefer ,i bet i know what he'd say !?
I Hear ya but he ihe 1st guy in 100 years to do it! Its a special achievement. And Ruiz as much as i hate him and he sux is not an easy guy to beat, he is still 1 of the better heavys.
U can write the losses to those to off as bieng weight drained, if he beats Calzaghe - after all thats happened then there is ur storybook ending!
But for some people losses don't mean much it seems. He did something incredible in going up to heavy and winning the title. But i agree staying in his weight class and being un beaten would be much better. haha idiots would of said he stil didn't beat anybody i bet u
Ruiz 4 sure coz if he had just beaten Tarver and Johnson they'd be viewed as more bums on the record - not so now!But Come on guys he didn't just lose he got brutally KOed !

if he would have retired after the Ruiz fight, that would have been a great ending
I second that!!!
Or even after the 1st Tarver fight. To come down to 175 and become 175's champ again!!
