This fight should be the main event really its def getting way more attention from what I see based on threads here. I really hope we aren't disappointed by it on sept 14 cause expectations are high. I know I'm waiting on this like a kid waiting for christmas
I think it's smart putting it on Floyds under card. Floyd vs Canelo is going to do around 1.5 mil +. That's more eyes than it would have being on it's own card. Plus it's going to be Floyds/Canelo fan base, the casual fan, and A list celeb types. If this fight lives up to the hype the winner can become a super star.
Mares is still a good fighter. He just got hit with a clean shot by a bigger fighter who can punch. That happens in boxing. But I don't think he was the hype job that others were calling him. He's battle tested over the past two to three years.
Unfortunately that doesn't sell with today's youth. They want to see the Adrian Broner's of the world be loud, obnoxious and arrogant. That's their role models and the way this generation handles itself.
They see humility and honor as being a weakness.

I see this fight being like a Maidana vs Lopez type fight. Both fighters landing punches with each fighter having a chance to win. Then one goes down in the middle rounds. The end.
I would give Mayweather credit for fighting Matthysse. They put Matthysse on the undercard because there will be more eyes on Mayweather vs Canelo than there would be if Matthysse and Garcia held their own card. And it's the right kind of eyes too. Casuel fans that dont really watch boxing. So i they preform well both Garcia and Matthysse would be an easy sell as Mayweathers next opponent.
IMO if Garcia wins, I think an immediate fight with Garcia will happen.
I think if Lucas wins, that fight needs to be built up more because the casual fan does not know who Lucas is. They may need to give him a tailor made guy for Lucas to KO @ 147. GBP will still have to build up Lucas for them to potentially make it a much bigger fight.
DO you think it's possible that if Khan loses to Devon, they feed Khan to Lucas @ 147?

If Matthysse wins, and the fight lives up to the hype, they wont have to build up Matthysse. All it takes is one great fight with a lot of eyes watching it and your in like flin. They didn't have to build up Ortiz because Ortiz vs Berto did like 1.5 mil on HBO.
I thought it was OK. I didnt know Canelo had a daughter. Canelo seems to be pretty laid back and relaxed. Pretty good first episode. You know what your going to get like any other TV show. In Entourage you know Vinny Chase is going to get the bad ass chick yet you watch any way.
I'd say B-Hop but it could've been a no brainer. If only B-Hop didn't let Jermaine Taylor off the hook twice. He was a much better fighter and left a lot on the table in those two fights. He should've won both fights easy instead of getting robbed in both. But the answers still B-Hop.
It's too late for Rigo to reach ATG status. He's already 30 and he only has 12 pro fights. Plus to mention at 122 he wont get enough creditable opponents to make his resume ATG.
Maybe you're more of a casual fan. Jhonny has been around on a world class level for roughly 10 years or so. Although he has decent power, the knock on him has always been that he can be a bit chinny.
Myself personally I don't follow many fighters under 130 unless they are really dynamic fighters.
Canelo will last 12 rounds as long as he doesn't stop trying to win. If he gets fed up with trying to win then it's possible he could quit on the stool. But if I had to lay my own money I would bet he lasts.

You take away Trout's height and he's a fish out of water. To me Shawn Porter has more pure boxing ability than Trout. Look at the punch stat numbers in his fights. He pulls his punches. He's a volume puncher with out the pressure to go with it. So I cant even call him a true pressure fighter.
Floyd hasnt beat anyone as good and big as trout in how long? Be real guys. Guerreo. Ortiz. Old Mosley and little Marquez arent as good of wins as 154 Trout.
Ortiz has more pure boxing ability than Trout. Now he might be weak minded and a quitter and all those other things with it. But if I was looking at both in the gym and didn't know anything about either I would think Ortiz was the better fighter. Same goes for Mosley and Marquez. You take away Trout's height and he's not much of a fighter.
I've been watching this fight over and over again so let me break something down for you.
In round one Lamont controlled the pace and Lucas only landed one descent punch, I gave that round to Lamont because of this.
In round 2 it started to look like more of the same with Lamont controlling the pace and the distance, then starting @ 2:10 of the 2nd round Lucas lands a punch to the back of Lamont's head followed by a vicious right hand to the back of the head and then 2 more for good measure, after these punches Lamont was never the same and could no longer control the pace or the space between them. Even though Lamont complained about it to Smoger he did nothing about it and you guys saw what happened. That's like getting punched in the d*ck 3 times and not given time to recover. It was dirty and I hope who ever the Ref is for the Danny fight doesn't allow this to happen. This isn't the first fight that Lucas as used this dirty tactic either.
I think the fact that Lamont tried to hook with a hooker had a little something to do with it too.
Dang Floyd looked terrified. I think his anus puckered. Floyd would have been knocked spark out if he fought margarito. That's why the fight didn't happen.
I don't get it. Why would Floyd be worried about Margarito hearing him? The guy doesn't speak English. He needed an interpreter to understand Floyd when he was speaking to his face. You think he's worried about Margarito listening to him over his shoulder? It doesn't make sense. I understand the whole Floyd ducked Margarito argument but I think you are reaching a little bit on that video.
It's ridiculous to call him a hype job, he was a proven champ. It was almost as ridiculous to have jhonny a 9:1 underdog.
As for the bold, I doubt he would've recoup. Gonzalez landed the same hook previous to the first KD. I think he was going to keep landing it on a dazed Mares, plus he had no legs, you can tell by the way he fell. Anyway, he was going to get KOd eventually. Maybe in a rematch things can be different but that hook pretty much ended the fight, I don't think Mares was going to shake that punch in the next round.
I had never heard of Johnny and I consider myself an informed boxing fan. Which is why the odds were ridiculous. That's mainly because Mares is a name and Johnny Gonzalez isn't. But I have a feeling some shark somewhere that really loves boxing came up phat last weekend. 9 to 1 odds man. You make the right bet and you can retire with those kind of odds.

Anderson Silva was the reason I got into MMA in about 2005. At first I thought he was black and I was like "nice now I have a fighter I can really get behind." Then I found out he was from Brazil. He was still my favorite fighter because of the skills but I never really gravitated to the sport. I watch it when its on but all the fighters I like are all over the hill. I don't see that young talent out there that can carry the sport for years to come.

You'd be surprised at how many fighters get title shots right after losing to another fighter who deserves the shot more. Rancid Bartholamule lost to Ushamee and almost got the shot at Mendez.....luckily Mendez didn't allow that.
I've seen guys get title fights after loosing but we are talking about a sanctioning body ordering a title fight. That's something totally different.

The NFL is king in the Unites States Check. They have a 9 billion dollar a year TV contract which happens to be the best in sports history. With fantasy football, gambling, and everything else that comes with that fans want to watch their football. TWC and CBS will get a deal done.
