Great FNF this week
Top notch:boxing:
Interesting fights indeed. Alvarez / Saunders would be much more telling if Saunders wasnt coming off a tough 10 rounds 3 weeks ago. i would expect Alvarez to dominate Saunders who is on his last legs after fighting more than he should over the past year. Sillakh beat him up badly, the guy should take more time off between fights, its gonna catch up to him real quick.
Jean Pascal just posted this on his Twitter Page:
"Its confirmed I just signed to box against the black Russian Ismail Sillakh May 1 at Bell Center"
You think it's an April Fools prank?
Yes Pascal is a joke.
I dont think the Sillakh Pascal fight will ever happen now.
Sillakh will fight Dawson as the mandatory challenger or Dawson will vacate. Either way Sillakh wins and then Pascal can go F himself.

here's a link to his boxrec. the results from lots of his big tournaments are there. there's at least three stoppage losses in there. one walk over, too, but who knows what could have happened.
he's been thrice stopped as an amateur. you named two of them, and the other was at FW and more than a decade ago.
i've seen sillakh a good deal. i keep my own council on a fighter and i dont need you or teddy atlas to tell me otherwise, with all respect. he's talented, but i dont like how he reacts to the few hard shots i've seen him take. if you care to look i was bringing up the stoppage losses on his amateur record before atlas said that on the FNF air. i certainly wouldnt care to go through the trouble.
anyway, there are the big tournament results and the stoppages. on boxrec of all places
So your main reason for not being very high on Siillakh is that he has been stopped 3 times in 320 or so amateur fights. One of those being when he was 14 FRIGGIN years old!!!?
Give me a break man. This is the only negative thing you can say about him?
He started boxing when he was about 8 or 9 years old so maybe you can go back to when he was in elementary school and find another stoppage. Hahahah!
Seriously, how many fighters have 320 amateur fights to begin with? There is no one in the LHW div that has had close to that so how can you compare his amateur record to any other fighter? Maybe Pascal or Dawson, Cloud, Cleverly, etc. have 320 amateur fights they may have taken a few good shots and been stopped once or twice. Do you think thats possible?
Im going with my man Ismayl Sillakh who is just starting to get his motor running. He has been sparring with Lateef Koyode to prepare for Grachev at some point he will move up to cruiser then heavyweight. Possible LH,Crusier and heavyweight champ over the next decade. Hopefully he will get a chance to fight Ward at some point over the next couple of years.
Give him the 10 count atleast, its a fight, not the ballet, if he doesn't like how the fighter responds then stop the fight, but give the guy a chance, they train their a$$ off, his career is probably over now. Who was winning on the scorecards?, I thought Syllakh was ahead. Maybe they should have a rematch down the road.
His career is probably over?
What kind of ***** azz ***** are you. SILLAKH will come back stronger.
He looked past this guy & payed the price.
From my perspective I say it was a case of Sillakh not fighting to win but more fighting not to lose. Maybe he felt the pressure of being on the cusp of a big payday and didnt want to lose so badly that he didnt fight to win but played it very safe. Grachev had nothing to lose and went for it.
Also when Sillakh got caught with that hard right he didn't react well. He had the capacity to react much differently but didn't and it cost him the fight.
Sillakh was by far the more skilled fighter even though he left much of the skill in the locker room. They knew Grachev had some power. Sillakh had sparred with Grachev not to long ago. Grachev is a strong guy with incredible conditioning and they knew that going in.
My money would be on Sillakh any time these 2 meet again.
Sillakh will bounce back a much better fighter.
Honestly, I was wondering where all the power is at. I, also, kept screaming for him to throw the uppercut. There just was no work off the jab and, ironically, that earlier knock down was off two short jabs that both missed.
There are tons of fighters who had a first loss that turned to two and two losses that turned to three. So things still can't be called for certain but it helps that he's in such a weak division. From the american viewpoint, you have Dawson, Pascal and Cloud after tomorrow night and Pascal and Cloud are going to knock one or the other off for a while.
I'm actually surprised that no one said anything about trouble making weight. He had just about all the symptoms, including decreased recovery. Everything about his frame seemed shaky even after the fight ended and he hadn't taken much damage in the fight.
Trouble making weight? Sillakh walks around at 175, 365 days of the year. You dont know what your talking about.
That's my biggest problem with boxing fans. Top fighters if they lose to other top fighters they get sh1tted on and prospects that are looking great get so much praise. Well, there's a reason why that prospect looks good....he isn't fighting the same talent! If the top fighters were fighting the same guys those prospects were fighting they would be icing them as well. People need to start taking in account who these guys are fighting.
Lets see...Cloud lost to Campillo(I dont care what anybody says) who had 3 losses a draw one of those losses by KO not TKO KO.
Campillo got knocked out and has 4 losses and people still talk about him being a top guy.
Mack has been TKO'd 4 times lost to Glen Johnson and 1 split decision win later over a slight prospect and he fought for the IBF title against Cloud.
Allan Green moves up from Super Middleweight after a lopsided decision loss to ward, a TKO loss to Glen johnson a TKO win over a bum and a SD over a fighter that is not even in the top 50 and hes ranked #14. WTF is that?
Proving that you can have multiple KO losses lopsided decision losses and still be considered in the top 15.
I can still see how Sillakh is a dangerous proposition to many of the guys above him.
When Wlad, initiates a clinch 15 times over 12 rounds = OMG Wlad so bad.
When Bhop headbutts/lowblows/dives/hugs/potshots 10000 times in a 12 rd fight = He just crafty veteran...
yeah double standard, Hopkins can look like total crap, I dont even know what to call it, it wasnt boxing, and still people think hes great.
People paid to see boxing and they saw a train wreck. Anyone else would be called a bum and thats putting it nicely.
Teamuppercut, is Sillakh still your choice for fighter of this decade?
Yes , there are 8 more years in this decade Big guy.
People think fighters like Bute are the **** when they get hurt worse, has no idea where he is at and the referee gets to his 8 second count as the bell rings to end the round 21 seconds later, the round could have had 30 seconds remaining and the referee would have started over after getting to eight, whatever it took. That was a disgrace and is why boxing has lost its lustre. Bute couldn't take much of a punch and didnt react well to getting hit hard by Andrade. Home Cookin!!!! Sillakh gets that same treatment and he would probably be undefeated still. Would it make a difference. Who wants that kind of win on their record? Sillakh will take the loss learn from it and move on. Bute is undefeated only because of that and has never beaten a top 10 opponent. No I wouldn't consider a 42 years old Glen Johnson with 15 losses a top 10 guy and thats the best he has fought. So why is the sham Bute getting some much love.
Lucien "The Sham" Bute
Lets see...Cloud lost to Campillo(I dont care what anybody says) who had 3 losses a draw one of those losses by KO not TKO KO.

let him travel to the UK for a title shot vs Cleverly... nice one
I would love to see Sillakh Cleverly fight.
Sillakh is no threat to him. Did you guys see how Cleverly dominated Tommy Karpency. My god that kid is a beast.
uppercut, are you sayin Sillakh shouldn't have been stopped? Totally agree about Bute
Im sayin he takes the one good shot takes a knee gets 10 seconds to recover, stay away for 20 more seconds, go from there. He took 15 straight punches most to the head, 3 big left hooks and the last big right, totally unnecessary. He was probably up by 4 points at least so a 10-8 round is not a problem. maybe it wakes him up to start throwing the right with conviction like he can and 5-6 punch combinations like he can. It had the potential to be a great fight to the finish but Sillakh reacted poorly to the situation, thats all. Very few top fighters have never been knocked down or taken a big shot that had them on queer street. It happens, its not the end of the world.
Thats what Im saying.
sadly yes, i think this should be the end for Hopkins. dawson wasn't a good style for him to be able to exploit another young strong guy. but still, Hopkins was never hurt in the fight, I dont think dawson was either though.
Ya think,In boxing you have to land meaningful punches to hurt the other fighter. Neither did. Very observant.
Had it 116-112 Dawson.
Didnt see how Hopkins could win this fight. Dawson settled down after the headbutt and took control of the fight. Showed a lot of mental toughness.
Did Dawson ever land a good punch, neither one of them did. Fight looked more like a hugging match. Sh itty display of the sport of boxing. Terrible fight they both looked affraid to fight. Dawson let the smaller older Hopkins manhandle him for 12 rounds. Never threw many meaningful combinations. neither fighter looked like a champion.
Im not saying Sillakh is "great" Ill hold off on that until he gets a chance to fight a few of the best Light heavys. Im not saying Pascal is physically scared of Sillakh either.
Sillakh is good enough and has the poise, the intelligence, the boxing and the punching skills to put a mental scare into guys like Pascal. Pascal is running to the big money out there but at some point when the majority of boxing fans and public get a chance to see what Sillakh can do and how well he does it, and if he takes advantage of one of the biggest sports markets in the US (Los Angeles) and the 38,000 Ukrainians living in LA, the money will be there. He would probably get a big following in Canada if Pascal ever happens as they have an even larger number of transplanted Ukrainians than the US.
Yes I am a big Sillakh fan. Hes doing all the right things, its not a matter of if but when.
Who has Cleverly beaten?
If he does beat Dawson, I hope he retires. That'd be a great way to go out.
If not, I wouldn't mind seeing Nathan Cleverly, to unify titles. I'd rather not see him fight Cloud, if Cloud beats Pascal. Cloud has to beat Campillo convincingly first.
Or take on a young top contender like Sillakh, once he beats someone in the Top 10 at LHW. I can't see a Bute fight happening, he and Ward said they won't fight each other, so who else???
I say Cleverly to unify or just retire.
On a side note, I think Dawson is going to really take it to Hopkins this fight. I'll be amazed if Hopkins can beat Chad Dawson, at this point in his career. He's pretty much coming off a one year layoff
So Sillakh needs to fight a top 10 guy to get some cred but this Cleverly Douche bag with 22 fights under his belt can fight nothing but patsies and be a world champion for 2 years defending against average fighters?
Cleverly has never faught a top 10 fighter , not for the championship or as the "Champ" What are you smokin?
