I just can't shake the feeling that this will be a disappointing fight. I hope that it is a thriller, but Khan would not take it at this point if he and Roach were not pretty confident that they have a solid plan to deal with Maidana. Khan is more skilled than Maidana, anyway, so I think it is going to be Khan dominating pretty easily and Maidana slowly getting busted up as he takes more and more risks as the fight wears on trying to land a big bomb on Khan to equalize things. I think it is a Khan KO or Khan on points, depending on Maidana's heart and chin on the night. So while it will be a significant fight for the division, as Bradley and Alexander will have to take Khan very seriously afterwards, as fights go I don't think that it will be a thriller, it will just underline the talent gap between Maidana and Khan. I have nothing against Maidana, but if he were going to make his move in the division he would have done it by now. Khan has too much for him across the board.
Not the mismatch a lot of sources are quoting. Haye should win it, he is more complete than Harrison, but Harrison is more solid than his reputation suggests, he has some skills and will view this as the last chance saloon. So while I do think that Haye will win this, if Haye takes it for granted then I think he might just get tagged and come unstuck. So it could be more interesting to watch than some are predicting, while it lasts. I wouldn't waste money betting on it going to points, though, I'm pretty sure that this will be a stoppage result either way - they both have some power and they both have form for getting knocked down. Haye's defence is not what it should be, he relies too heavily on reflexed over technique, and Harrison looks an awful lot better going forwards than he does when trying to counter punch, he gets defensively disorganized too easily. So someone will connect at some point and that will be the end of that.
This is a real shame if true. I guess King knows that another defeat, particularly a bad one, could end Valuev's days as a cash cow. Trouble is, King won't make much money out of Valuev if he doesn't face a Klitschko. Haye is the only other big fight for him, and given the way Haye is 'negotiating' with the Klitschkos, Haye would probably want the vast majority of the purse were he to rematch Valuev. King/Valuev should take the 1.2m, it's a good offer and would be an interesting fight to watch. Whatever happens, I really hope it is not Briggs, he couldn't hack it and would go into his shell. Might be a good 60 seconds at the beginning of round one, after that terrible.
I think it was surely more a case of Wlad not wanting to look as though he was making too many concessions to get Haye in the ring, I expect Wlad wanted to assert on the whole negotiation that he is the accepted No. 1, that Haye needs him more than he needs Haye. I can't believe for an instant that Haye makes more money than the Klitschkos. He just can't. Doesn't fight enough, for one thing.
They're both more than capable of having an off night. I do think that Hatton will win this one, given how ideal everything outside of the ring is for him for this one he should be settled and rise to the occasion, but I wouldn't be confident enough to back it with 400 of anything. Previous performances add up to suggesting that Matthew Hatton is a limited fighter, so he's due to come unstuck again soon...
Floyd is a very talented fighter, maybe even a great fighter, but his style is risk-averse in the ring and risk-averse out of it. So I do not think that he will take the fight, or certainly not under terms that leave (in his mind) much risk or Pac beating him. It is a shame, as I think that he could be considered a great fighter if he were to take a few more chances.
Just to be clear, some of us in the UK tune in to see the Klitschkos fight. This is another nail in the coffin of Haye's credibility. Booth needs to go on a course or something, learn some basics about how to promote/manage a fighter. He is currently just stumbling from disaster to disaster, in terms of looking after Haye's future. I agree that Haye is ducking people, but he is also presumably being very badly advised by Booth. They just seem to exist in a bubble outside reality, telling one another that they are both wonderful and that everyone else is wrong.
Sorry, the first part of my last post was supposed to be in answer to Panda, yesterday, saying that noone in the UK watches the Klitschkos. Being new to this, I made a mess of taking the quote from Panda's post and answering it. Apologies if I confused anyone by seeming to make a random point! Would anyone be kind enough to post a link to some instructions on how to respond to individual posts or sections thereof, please? I have looked but have been unable to find any instructions. Many thanks in advance.
This is such a shame, this could have been a great, breakthrough year for Khan. As it is he will look back and have fought one weight-drained former champ without a punch and a badly faded champion from a smaller weight category. When he left Frank Warren for GBP it was allegedly because he 'wanted to crack America'. If this is Khan cracking America it is deeply disappointing.
Yeah, the biggest draw and lineal champion of the division being ducked by two of the top contenders. Haye I suppose can make money defending his belt but I'm not sure what Povetkin wants. He is wasting his career on C-level opponents and probably not getting paid that much either, at least not compared to what he'd get against Wlad.
Well I guess Povetkin reckons he can win, so fighting Haye is an easier route to a belt. Hopefully at least if he did pull it off the money he would be offered for a unification bout might persuade him to get in with Wlad at that point. Wishful thinking, though, I fear.
who said panda was replying to u? read a thread title much?
reality check: not everything posted after ur post revolves around ur statements :loser:
Fair point, I apologize, should not post on here while distracted sorting lunch for the kids, sorry! To be fair, I was not posting out of ego, I just didn't see much in the way the thread had gone that spoke of fairness, but I had not seen the original title. My bad.
because not everybody worships the holy pactard trinity. the divine belief in arum, paquiao, and roach and that there words are law.
Surely you are answering a point that we did not make? I stated that I wondered how Mayweather retained any fans after his approach of the last few years, that viewpoint has nothing to do with Arum, Pacquiao, Roach or anyone else. It was simply a standalone point about Mayweather. You seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that it is necessary either to dislike Floyd Mayweather, or to 'worship' the three you list, with no third way possible. I stand by my original point, and I do not 'worship' anyone. Your apparent dislike of Pac, Roach and Arum need have nothing to do with whether you support Mayweather. I still don't see how Mayweather retains much of a fanbase, these days.
It does make sense, though, from his point of view, he will obviously hope to set up a much bigger fight down the road for the two US fighters once they have beaten the two Europeans. So while people might disagree with him on how the fights will play out, you can see where he is coming from. Makes sense from his point of view.
how is this unfair to anyone but himself
the guy doesnt wanna fight so he doesnt fight, being a boxing fan doesnt make us shareholders in the life of mayweather
for all panda cares he doesnt fight ever again, people are giving this shit too much attention and playing right into floyd's pocket cuz his name is being thrown out there more than any current fighter including pacman. well guess what all of these threads are raising his stock and giving him more freedom to decide for himself who to fight and when to fight him
its not like mayweather is the first boxer to do this, roy jones did as did oscar de la hoya, mayweather should do whatever the hell he wants and boxing fans need to stop bitching about it cuz theyre the cause of his behaviour - thats all
Who said he was being unfair? I just said that I was surprised he motivated many fans.
it's a front running bandwagon world.
that's why when a sports team wins a championship all of a sudden you see their jerseys/kits pop out of nowhere where you would never see that team's jersey before.
mayweather has an undefeated record. that's why you have all these kids all over his nuts.
you can tell the old mayweather fans from the new ones.
the old mayweather fans still defend his skills and talent and his resume somewhat but they don't really defend him as much as the younger kids.
most of them probably only saw his jmm and shane fights. maybe hatton and delahoya at most.
they're also young kids. that's why you see posts and threads and they don't know a thing about stuff like taxes , tax rates , investments , liens etc. when they were defending "money" about his money problems last year.
Interesting, and I guess you are right, but man that makes me feel old!! I thought 36 was still relatively young, I mean I still play on the Xbox, drive fast cars etc. But I guess the fact that I get your post suggests that I am older than I feel!! Agree with your post, though. I feared I might just be walking into a wall of hate for mine, so thank you for the vote of support.
all the super 6 fights to date have been on a random ppv channel in the uk, sky werent interested. I guess it depends on whether that channel has a contract in place for the whole tournament or on a fight by fight basis.
Hope sky get it, on a non ppv :-)
I read somewhere a while back that Primetime have a contract with the tourney organizers that gives them first refusal on all the Super Six bouts, it was a key part of their business modell, which if true would mean that they are ahead of Sky in the queue for this one. Of course, I don't know what the numbers are behind the deal, so hopefully Sky can still get it.
I like the idea instinctively, but the trouble is you wouldn't know who was going to fight who, or how often each fighter would fight. The advantage of 'regular' fantasy sports is that there is generally a league or something ensuring that the participants all compete a roughly equal number of times, and against a range of opposition. I fear if we had fantasy boxing that Green's 29 second 'KO' would give him more points than someone doling out a sustained beating against a live, quality opponent then stopping them in the late stages. I like the theory, just don't see how it would work.
I don't understand how Mayweather has any fans left. He is a wonderfully talented boxer, sure, but sport is also entertainment, that is where the fans come in, I just don't see why people would put their hard-earned money into following Mayweather. When a fighter won't fight, how do they build a fanbase? How do they keep a fanbase? I don't think I will ever understand why people would count themselves a fan of Mayweather, I don't see anything there to support.
I think it would be good for the division if he could make a go of this, and even Khan might fight him as he has looked vulnerable more recently. However I thought Judah looked done in his last couple, at the top level at least, he never had the work ethic to go with his confidence and ambition, so I don't think this latest resurgence will come to much. Would like to eat my words, though!
It's getting bad. He has no reason not to fight Pac at this point.
He never did have any excuse not to fight Pac. PBF's attitude was bound to catch up with him, eventually. When you are not a very nice person, sooner or later the majority will realize that they do not like you, whatever the size of your talent or your bank balance.
floyd should get a bigger split cause he is a bigger ppv attraction.
I think this sport should place more emphasis on the boxing itself. At this level there is plenty of money to make them both a lot of money. Even if PBF is the bigger ppv draw, there is no question that this is the biggest fights out there for either of them. So the numbers they pull for this one will be bigger fighting one another than they would be elsewhere. You cannot compare previous ppv numbers against Josh Clottey, or even Shane Mosley, when planning this fight. They are both vital to the magnitude of this fight, they both bring an enormous amount to the table, this should be a 50-50 split. If I were either fighter, I would decline less than 50-50. In terms of boxing, the pundits are so split that this is a 50-50 fight across the board. So if one guy is willing to place making more money over making this fight happen, let him go fight bums for safe money like Haye, Khan etc. They both need to remember that sport needs to be entertainment to exist at anything like their level, and this is the fight that the fans want. That should count for something, too.
If Froch can keep his gloves up and not float his chin so much I see him winning. If he gets excited, steams in and gets tagged he could be in trouble.
I just wish we didn't ever have catchweight fights. It is bad enough with so many titles within each division, without then having fights in a grey area between divisions. Some people are just too different in size to make a fair match. And if there is a gulf in size, and people still want to make the fight, let them make it at an established weight category and well done the little guy if he proves that talent can overcome size. Catchweights are another thing that restricts new fans coming into the sport. Also, fights fought at catchweights are often not great, as the catchweight has been used to fudge a fight between two people who really ought not to be fighting.
And Haye does not seem to realize that if he legitimately beats Wlad, with no odd circumstances/cut/dodgy decision etc then he will suddenly be seen by most people as the number one heavyweight in the world. At that point he gets to dictate terms, ask for the lion's share of the purse etc. to his heart's content. It seems to me that Haye is not at all confident of winning, otherwise he would not be seeking to secure his financial future off just this one fight. It's almost as if he expects to lose it. It is not as though the deal on the table is bad at all, he's making a mint with the deal offered. And I agree with the posters who say that Wlad, as the clear champ, has the right to expect a bigger share of the pie than Haye, if there is to be any discrepency. As it stands, it is virtually a 50-50 split, millions for each of them. Considering Wlad has taken on all comers from the top 15 of the last few years, and Haye's best win at heavyweight is probably still Monte Barrett (before you mock me for that at least Haye had to come of the canvas in that one, which is more character than he has shown in his other heavyweight outings - imho he lost the Valuev fight and Ruiz was washed up (and was never that good in the first place). So in light of all that, I think that the deal being offered by Wlad is better than I would expect in Haye's position. Booth is making his regular excuses. Haye is not taking the fight as he won't take risks, and this fight would be likely to end with Haye flat on his back asking who won.
