Pound for pound is the term used in boxing, mixed martial arts, and other combat sports to describe a fighter's value in relation to fighters of different weight classes. In boxing, Ring Magazine's pound for pound list is the established standard for ranking fighters pound for pound. Because of the emphasis on the size of the boxer, pound for pound ratings predominantly feature fewer heavyweights, focusing primarily on boxers middleweight or below.
The website where that quote comes from does have Wlad in the top 10 though.
I understand the quote and the point you're making, guess I just don't think it's right as a concept but p4p lists are interesting anyway so I'm not complaining.
P4P is to say, if two fighters are the same size, who would win?
It's based off rankings though and the level of competition fighters have beaten in their own weight division. Besides, if say Pacqiuao and Mayweather were the same size as Wlad then would they be able to fight the same as they do now? No and vice versa so it's pretty pointless to even contemplate 'if two fighters were the same size'. Plus, it's kind of harsh to dismiss Wlad because he uses his 'height and reach' to his advantage, do fighters in other weight classes not do the same if they can? Maybe not to the same extent but using your physical advantages as best you can is just smart boxing. Lewis did the same and you know if he was fighting today he'd be top 10 p4p but you don't think that would be right? I get what people mean with the weight issue but it's not like Wlad hasn't fought fighters who weighed an equal amount or more than him. Personally I think he should be top 10
Again, fight fans like modesty and heart. You tried to play the race card and your little theory was seen through as complete BS.
Agreed.
Look down the years and you'll find British fighters from many different backgrounds who gained popularity. Hatton's following was unique and only really blew up to the scale seen in Vegas later in his career, although he did have a decent following throughout. The notion that the majority of British boxing fans are biased towards white fighters is kind of nonsense, explain Froch, explain Calzaghe. You'll find more followers of Haye and Khan than either of those.
I don't think it's anything to do with the fact that Degale is mixed race, he has been acting like a cocky prick and I think people in general like to see arrogant loudmouth types get taken down a peg or two. Not only that his behaviour leading up to the fight is reminiscent of a schoolyard bully, stupid **** like caling Groves 'ugly boy' constantly. Groves just seems like a more likeable, more humble person and that's why he had such a large percentage of support within the O2. Plus who doesn't love an underdog coming through and prevailing?
I don't know if you're American or not but race seems to be a bigger issue and cause more division in the States than on this side of the pond. That's not to say the UK doesn't have any problems in that regard, most places do but a decent percentage of Americans seem obsessed with the issue of race moreso than others.
And you say Groves is a brawler but that's not what won him the fight tonight... I don't know how you can call it a 'robbery' even if you disagree with the decision, it was a very close fight and I had it a draw to be honest but a decision either way can't really be called a robbery in this instance.
Yes Hearns was good against wild fighters and he had a semi decent attack but Sturm is on a different level when it comes to technical skills. He would jab Hearns' head off and make him look like an overgrown sperm, Sturms by KO round 10, a vicious jab would most likely end the night and Sturm but would still not get credit because he's German and people would say Hearns was always a bum. People don't appreciate the genius of Sturm because they don't understand the finer points of boxing, he is like poetry in motion, Hearns was like Bambi on ice and Sturm would melt the ice beneath his feet and watch Hearns stumble, he would look ridiculous trying to walk on a thawed ring with ice skates on and would no doubt lose his balance.
Sturm by KO
How come Europeans like to argue so much with Americans? It seems like any time the fan demographic of a fighter and his origins line up there's some foriegn ****er blaming domestic fans for something. Maybe it's American fans....Maybe any fight that close has fans screaming robbery, and the obvious overlap makes it mostly Americans. Everytime it's close someone got "robbed". I'm a Calzaghe fan, and an American, but it's not like I get to jump right in with you boys you've directly attacked the American fan....which is me....and successfully alienated me from both the Hopkins side and the Calzaghe side of arguments. Basically i'm saying I agree Calzaghe won, but **** you anyway you hateful ****s. It's immature, and after having been there ( EU ) I can say from England to Germany is mostly *******. No, for real I'd get faces and hears shouts and **** from males that let me know i'm not welcome, but only from a safe place like a car. Not one of you bobble headed ******* said **** in an area were I can put my hands on you. Even though there's a cop around every corner, and there's no way I could linger to really beat your asses. You people as a demographic are so ****ing terrified of the first shot you run your mouths from a safe distance, and never even try to see what you've really got. I'm willing to bet, given you nation gave me no other examples of men, that your a ****ing ***** too who runs his mouth at a safe distance..terrified of one or two ****ing punches before your ****ty version of a cop shows up in his little match box car.
Don't talk **** I can't imagine people in Europe being hostile towards Americans for no reason if you were here, only the crazy ones who are hostile to everybody anyway, other than that I think you have a bit of an overactive imagination. Only other thing I can think of is that you were in Palestine or something :/
This is the internet and this forum is a bit of a troll fest to be honest, there are plenty of Americans who will insult Europeans and vice versa, plenty of Puerto Ricans going at Mexicans etc.
Mainly it's due to the fact that the anonymity of the internet makes people act like *******s, take your post for example, you are saying what you would like to do to these imaginary people who threatened you and yet you are posting on an internet forum so it really means nothing, you are effectively talking **** in a safe place like those people you are whinging about. You don't see the hypocrisy?
By the time these fools fight everyone will be talking about Carl Froch, defensively he is improving, soon he will be on a par with Locche when it comes to ATG defenses and Floyd will pale in comparison to the sublime Cobra.
Besides, if Pacquiao wins it will be because Roach found some way to avoid a drug test and Manny can chow down on all the A Side Meth he wants, obviously no one will beat him while he is on that.
I don't think it's possible to beat him, it's a matter of containing him as much as possible to go out in the least humiliating way but in the end the cobra always strikes and hits you with a venemous left jab that is p4p one of the quickest punches ever seen in boxing.
In conclusion, no one can beat this phenomenon fair and square, that's the only answer to your question.
Something to do with his adoration for gingerbread, in fact for his love for anything with a predominant flavour of ginger.
That's the rumour anyway but it's a bit of a mystery
What about eastern european lightweight, welterweight, middleweights?
are they soft ?
Big american guys go to other sports, that's why America has some of the best p4p fighter but no great heavyweight.
Big American guys go to other sports.... so do big guys anywhere. Rugby, basketball in Europe, same shit more or less.
What are you talking about? Hatton did not fight bums at home well into his 30s :/ He's only 32 now and hasn't fought for a couple of years... he stepped up, won a few fights in the US then got beaten by two of the greatest fighters in the last couple of decades. He had a solid career, people are too quick to call a fighter a bum on this forum, it's ridiculous.
Khan has been hyped up plenty in the UK since his silver medal, lots of exposure early in his career on ITV and the likes
Got to feel for El-Ouazghari, harsh point deduction and he was pulled over for the knockdown. Murray was hitting him with low blows all night
Poor performance from Murray anyway
I'll fight him, I'm 6'5 with a decent reach and I'm in good shape, not the biggest hitter but I'm fast enough... only reason I'm not boxing at the moment is because I don't like nose bleeds and I'm not one for the limelight. I'm definitely not fat so that will please a lot of people here. I probably wouldn't last too long but if the price is right I'll give Vit a fight and maybe more if he plays his cards right :luvbed:
right?
He knows a kid called Ronan who goes to a gym he was using and he was unable to attend the fight because he was having his tonsils out, hence the design on his shorts
No American Hws only dominated for 90 years, have fun with your champs and quit being dicks about it so what American Hws are in a slump, like i said the supreme big athletes here play Basketball and boxing. Now please say something stupid like the Klits could beat Ali or Foreman.
well a lot of the best heavyweights nowadays are from the former Soviet Union, obviously they wouldn't have made an impact in the past because they weren't allowed to turn professional until the 1990s. So in the same way you are saying that your best heavyweights are in the NBA and NFL, someone biased towards Eastern European fighters could say that all their best fighters in the past weren't able to even compete and that had they been Americans wouldn't have been so dominant.
Plus saying that all your best boxers are in the NFL is discounting the fact that there are other sports around the world with big guys competing in.
You gotta be ****tin me...Manny Pacquiao just basically destroyed Ricky Hatton and his family.
He pretty much destroys himself, been on the coke for years before his biggest fights, him and his team.
