Why is it that whenever a black fighter looks out for himself he is considered ducking? So called boxing fans might want to get in the ring and fight each if they feel another fighter is ducking someone. ......
It isn't because he's black. It's because he's a *****.:fing26:
Agnew's best punch was in round 3, a right hook to the head that left a scuff mark on Kovalev's forehead. He had success with the right hook two more times, but they were ineffective. Then he landed a nice left hook to the body during the headbutting incident.
That's it. Nothing to mention.
Yes, I said Lomachenko. His future is very bright and I can't wait till he starts getting comfortable in the ring. They say what makes Flyod great is his tireless work ethic. I think Lomachenko tops even Floyd in this category. The kid has a motor that doesn't quit. Potential ATG in the making.
So how you a Hopkins fan bro??? Lol
Precisely. *****-Hop sucks the worst. Or second worst .. after Ward.
Not to mention, against "salido" I had Lomachenko winning the fight 116-112. The one judge had it 115-113.
Lomachenko landed more total punches (164 to 142) at a much higher percentage (37% to 22%). He landed less Power shots (105 to 137) but at a much better percentage (44% to 25%). Lomachenko had Salido hurt badly in the 12th while never being hurt himself. This while being outweighed by 15lbs. In other words if you like fighters who swing wildly with little thought you probably thought Salido won, or is "exciting". On the other hand if you like fighters who use their superior footwork, balance and defence to get into position to land smart accurate shots you probably thought Lomachenko won.
There's no doubt GGG is better than Jr as far as pure skills are concerned. Saying that, I think Jr's size will play a factor in this IF he comes in shape and ready to go.
One thing I noticed about GGG, is that he doesn't have the best head movement I have ever seen. Stevens hit him, and sometimes he's there to be hit. I think Jr will hit him, the question is, how will GGG take it?
In the end I would pick GGG but Chavez' size could play an big role if he comes ready.
He's there to be hit because he takes one to give one. That's his style. And I appreciate it.
Skill level and natural heavy handedness are two different things. While Curtis may not have the ability to KO upper achelan fighters, you can still tell that he has a pretty good punch. The part in bold is kind of deceiving though. He has always been the bigger man in his fights which leads to the assumption that his blows are heavy. While he may have a good punch, you would at least think that he'd have more KD's overall. Yeah he caught Sergio but there has been several fights where Sergio has tasted the canvas so that's not really solidifying Chavez's power. When you land as much as Chavez did, it says a lot that he didn't put Vera down at least once when other fighters have already put him down with much less connect % than him.
He could have put Vera down had he thrown more than a one or two punch combos. He rocked Vera 3 or 4 good times, and was not interested in capitalizing at all it seemed. Lazy I guess?
He has NO INTENTION of fighting Sergey. NONE.
He's 37. He'll be too old to face Kovalev soon. That'll be the excuse. And who's to say Fonfara won't catch him?
1. HBO production values seem to be going downhill fast. I'm not really talking about the static/transmission problems in last night's fight - though I can't remember the last time I've seen either WCB or Showtime Champ. Boxing have issues like that. It's more that it looks like HBO is cutting corners in other areas. Anyone notice that the personal profile features now look like ESPN's? Just a camera, a guy sitting on a chair and a backdrop - no more going on location to a boxer's gym or neighborhood to find out more about him. Fights were shot like an ESPN fight too - very close in, no wide shots, no atmosphere...but of course that may have a lot to do with #2:
2. Kovalev has a long way to go it terms of star power and selling tickets. Kovalev-Agnew arena looked half-full. For all the talk about HBO building stars, it seems clear that Kovalev isn't one yet. Capacity in that ballroom is about 3,000, and it looked like it was half-full (which helps explain why the fight was shot with such tight camera angles). Selling less than 2,000 seats definitely shows that Kovalev isn't a star yet.
3. Other random thoughts.
I have no desire to see either Mayfield or Dulorme anytime soon.
Except for the replay of the Pac PPV, HBO has no boxing on air for the next seven weeks. Where is all their money being spent?
I will be very surprised if Chavez-GGG gets made for July.
I was going to go to the fight ... but I had to work and couldn't get out of it.
The most impressive thing to me about kovalev is that he gets full extension on all his shots. we know he has sick power, and amazing hand speed, combine that with great sense of position and the ability to cut the ring, he's the 175 version of GGG
GGG/Chavez Winner vs Kovalev
Pleeeeeeease HBO
You're the first person I saw that says Kovalev has great hand speed. Anyway, Kovalev vs GGG is a horrible idea. I don't want their paths to cross this early. Hell no. there's plenty of other work to do.
How could anyone say they weren't impressed? He only got hit 25-30 times, only 3 of which were solid. And he won by KO with a jab to the body that broke the guys ribs. Agnew is in a world of hurt today ... I guarantee you that.
He went for the KO that earns him an A from me, he entertains the fans unlike some fighters
Yes, indeed. That's all he wants. To entertain the fans, and be the champion. The money is secondary. We need more fighters like this guy. I love him win, lose or draw. A breath of fresh air.
JDJ said he's training Kovalev to go to the body more. We should expect to see more of it later. Kovalev has a very bright future. His power is like Tyson's in his era. We haven't had a puncher this big in ages.
Power in boxing is like the homerun hitter in baseball. A homerun is the best hit you can get in the game of baseball, a KO is the best punch you can land in Boxing. Is it really that hard to understand? The hype comes from hope. WE HOPE these guys become champions. WE HOPE these guys continue their glory and give us amazing memories. Imagine watching an entire baseball season realizing that there could be no more homeruns. Let's say they took the walls down. How exciting would that be? Same with the big kO in Boxing. If there was no suspense, we wouldn't pay attention. And guys like B-Hop, Ward and Mayweather offer ZERO suspense. There's nothing good about watching guys pop shot then hold. Sorry, but that's not fighting to me. You say the sport has evolved, you say the athletes have evolved. But I say they've devolved. The refs need to step in and stop this "safe" nonsense and make these ***** ass mother ****ers engage. Win a tactical fight by actually fighting. Just like that gay ass fight before Kovalev/Agnew. That fight had the potential for fireworks based on the "hype" surrounding both fighters. Especially Mayfield. But what did we get? Two ***** ass mother ****ers terrified to engage. You can still be "defensive" and "skilled" and actually FIGHT. Not just neutralize your opponents attack while doing just enough scoring to win the fight. That is olympic style boxing. AMATEUR bull****.
And Kovalev is not hype. He's the hardest hitter in Boxing. His power is amazing to witness. And he has a champions attitude and outlook. I love Kovalev win, lose or draw.
And I also wish GGG and Lomachenko the best. In the next 2-3 years Loma will be fighting Rigondeaux and GGG will have multiple belts.
And I think Abrahams fights with Miranda proved he's the real deal.
I want to see the best fight the best. Period. Then these two things wouldn't even make it to a poll. This "cold war" **** has got to end. There needs to be a governing body in Boxing. I hate to say that but that's the truth. The UFC knows how to keep fans and gain new fans. But they're having some of the same issues that Boxing is having. Especially with judging, early stoppages and the biggest atrocity .. fighters with styles that halt the action. I watched Ben Henderson fight Josh Thomson, winner gets a title shot. Knowing both of these fighters, I expected a potential fight of the year candidate. But Ben Henderson made sure that didn't happen. With his lunging right hook to the body, then the bear hug clinch ... similar to Ward's "push jab", bear hug/billy goat charge. The refs need to step it up and put a stop top this nonsense. Fans are being ripped off for their hard earned money.
Yes, i'm not sure he's heavy handed but he definitely creates that appearance. The left hook he has looks heavy and sounds heavy. Vera was game though.
I was sure that JCC was going to finish him, that it was just a matter of time ... but he couldn't get the job done and deserved to lose the fight. Matter of fact, he did lose the fight. The records just don't show that.
I don't like him at all, but he's a good step for GGG. I hope GGG beats his ass badly. But I think it'll go all 12. Unless JCC comes in in horrible shape and quits.
Khan is a good fighter. He dropped Maidana with a body shot, so there you go. I actually like watching Khan's fights. It's just a shame that his legs turn to licorice half of the time.
At least Kovalev is willing to fight anyone. At least Lomachenko stepped in with champions in his first two fights. At least they have heart and they're not insecure like Mayweather, Ward and Adonis.
GGG really IS a hype job. No one is basing his "greatness" on his performances or raw ability ... they're basing it on what his trainer and some Boxing "experts" have said. When you watch him fight, what do you see that is "great"? his power? Yes, he has power ... but is it THAT great? I'm not sure. Is it his combos? His hand speed? His defense? His will? His aggression? What exactly is it that makes everyone think that GGG is so great? The three gold medals during his amateur career? I'm just curious, that's all.
